Radar Vapor delaminating

Hi, about 4 years ago I bought an old model new radar vapor ski. When new I mentioned to the guys I bought it of that the top deck didn’t really match the bottom deck where they joined together. This has gradually got worse. Last year when I first skied on it it felt spongey. After inspection it appears to have delaminated. I contacted my local shop who contacted square one. They agreed to resell the top to the bottom with resin. Is this a suitable fix or will it still be a delaminated ski on the inside. It’s not back yet. The ski is in mint condition and only sees use for about 10 days a year when on holidays. The ski is stored in my walk in robe, much to the missus displeasure.

What are everyone’s opinions. The ski shop said to get it repaired then sell it and buy a new one.5a0asqu0wt5a.jpeg

Hi guys, thanks for the comments. I don’t want to sell the ski secondhand. I did buy the ski new from a shop in Australia. Square One are the Australian distributor.

I was expecting better support from Square One with a failed radar ski with minor use. I returned the ski to Square One and they are the ones repairing it. I have only talked to the local ski shop as Square One won’t talk to me. Apparently they are to busy!

Thanks everyone for there advise.

Looks like I need a new ski.

So what do I buy. I love how this one handled. Easy to start and was more ski than I could handle. Loved the speed and acceleration of it. I can also remember riding the stiffer ski at the time but it felt chattery on the water. The alloy (not so stiff) suited me better and my water conditions better.

Any advice appreciated.

dude what year is that ski? looks a few years old and regardless of use I would say it lived its life regarding warranty. if you are wanting to keep using it I would get some 2 part epoxy, seal the edge and clamp to dry. lightly sand any excess after dried

@Luckydave, it's past it's sell by date, Square One have no clue what sort of life the ski has had and it is beyond any warranty, that they would be responsible for, to be fair I think Square One has always treated there customers, more than fairly and have always responded to issues that are within a reasonable time frame and beyond,

I definitely would be using it as wall art, in a matter of fact I would tell them to throw it in the bin.

There are some good skis out there at a reasonable price point and there are deals on Ski It Again, but after your experience, I would buy new, I would definitely not rule out another Radar.

Hi Stevie Boy, I did buy new directly from the ski shop. It’s been looked after more than any other ski I’ve seen. It was brand new close out model. 12 months old when I bought it. But was brand new never used. If square one were as good as everyone says and backed there product they wouldn’t advise me to fix it, sell it and buy new. Imagine the poor person buying this stuffed ski!

@Luckydave I have owned a ton of Radar skis, all of which I had zero problems with. You got a bad one, and maybe it started that way. That ski looks like a 2016. I have 1 ski buddy on a 2016 and 2 more still on 2017’s. If I were you I wouldn’t shy away from the brand based on that ski. The current Vapor feels more like that ski (to me) than the 2018 and 2019 and I believe you’d feel right at home on one, either the 2020 or 2021. Aside from knowing what you’ve been comfortable riding, it’s very difficult to make any other recommendation.

@aupatking i was thinking the same, it’s a 5 years old model, even if it was bought later, lots can happen in about 4 years of use. Having said that, I know people skiing on the same model or older with no issue whatsoever and I believe @Luckydave that the ski has very little use. It could be a defect from the beginning but now it’s 4 years old ski...

If they offer a free repair, I would think of it as good service.

Hi Kurtis500, the ski goes back in the bag after use then a few hours later taken out sat on my spare bed until dry. Once cover and ski are dry it goes in the walk in robe in my bedroom until next use. The climate where I live is hot and dry with humidity less than 20 percent. If it gets humid it’s only humid far a storm for a day or two. But there is temps up to 47 degrees Celsius. Nearly 120 in your language.

Thanks for your comments guys. Just wondering if the pvc or foam core is more durable? And maybe not damaged so easily.

Also yesterday I got a ride on a 2020 vapor graphite and loved it. The local ski shop has kindly let me have one of there loan skis.
