IWWF Resolution On The Conflict In Ukraine

The IWWF Bureau met today and, in light of the current circumstances, agreed on the following resolution:

 

a. IWWF will not invite or allow the participation of Russia and Belarus athletes and officials in all IWWF approved events;

 

b. IWWF will not approve any event in Russia or Belarus.

 

All IWWF Confederations and affiliated Federations are required to comply with this resolution.

 

This decision aligns with the International Olympic Committee’s recent recommendation.

 

The IWWF is appalled by the war in Ukraine and its impact on innocent athletes and deeply regrets that they are caught in this situation. The IWWF is looking forward to a speedy resolution of the conflict after which these athletes and officials will be welcomed back.

I don't see how this helps end the violent and tragic war in Ukraine. But it does punish some waterski athletes from competing and decreases competition in an already small sport. Does Putin really care that much about towed watersports?

I believe the logic is as follows. "The more miserable the Russian people are the more pressure there is on Putin it's a pull out." It is the same reason why European governments are seizing the yachts of the oligarchs.

@Horton when the GDP per capita of the country is less than that of the citizens of China... You get the sense that the people dont matter much to the equation.

 

Now forcing the ultra wealthy to live in Russia not their 3 level penthouse on central park in NYC.... That will be pressure.

I'm not saying the logic is correct. I'm saying that is the logic. Maybe it's 100% virtue signaling. I don't know.

Stop buying all products, especially oil, from Russia immediately and this ends much sooner than most other measures.
