Baller OldboyII Posted May 16, 2022 Baller Share Posted May 16, 2022 My apologies for lot of words is the below post. Because of couple of injures this winter and rehab period Im weaker and heavier. Beginning of the water season is much harder anf frustrating. Water start is more challenging and painful and skiing is also less comfortable due to new weight (well over 200). Temporarily I returned to old HO Freeride. It solved problems with start though turning and wakecrossing is not the same as used to be. Im a modest 15off skier and ended last season on Denali C85, which is the greatest ski I ever tried). Week ago tried Radar Senate - not much of sucess ( So, at least for this season Im trying to find a ski with more or less modest sport performansce and wide tail for easier start. Does such ski exists or this is just theoretical dream? )) Or maybe there are a custom production or modification of existing models? Thanks! Baller Vernon Reeve Posted May 16, 2022 Baller Share Posted May 16, 2022 What length Senate did you try? My weight fluctuates between 205 and 225lbs and the 69" works great for me. Also, the Goode Power vest takes a lot of the strain out of deep water starts and skiing through the course. Deep water starts are still awkward for me, but definitely takes the strain out of the arms and back.
Baller_ DW Posted May 16, 2022 Baller_ Share Posted May 16, 2022 Goode has made a variety of performance based mid and wide skis. You might give them a call to see if they can provide some details on whether it helps for get ups. Good luck on your search.
Baller OldboyII Posted May 16, 2022 Author Baller Share Posted May 16, 2022 @Vernon Reeve Thank you. Makes sense. I tried my older Senate 67, which was good for me few years ago. 69 would give 1 inch more of length to tail that could facilitate getting up. Problem is that no one around me uses 69 ski ))). As an experiment I will move front boot on my 67 Senate forward as far as possible to check this guess.
Baller UWSkier Posted May 16, 2022 Baller Share Posted May 16, 2022 Radar Union sounds like it might be a good option if the Senate doesn't have the support you're looking for.
Baller OldboyII Posted May 16, 2022 Author Baller Share Posted May 16, 2022 @DW I will investigate this option. Thank you! Also may be Denali could make custom ski with extra surface in the tail area?
Baller bigtex2011 Posted May 16, 2022 Baller Share Posted May 16, 2022 I would get in contact with Kris LaPoint. He the king of changing ski shapes

Baller ColeGiacopuzzi Posted May 16, 2022 Baller Share Posted May 16, 2022 @OldboyII I would definitely revisit the Senate but a 69" you'll find it takes little effort behind the boat and in the turns and would suit you better than the 67". IF you can't get your hands on a 69" senate. The other option I highly recommend would be the 69" Radar Union, its 4 tenths of an inch wider than the vapor, which gives it an even bigger platform to stand on and more stability. A very user friendly ski by all accounts. Radar Skis Follow Instagram
Baller kc Posted May 16, 2022 Baller Share Posted May 16, 2022 I’ll give an endorsement for the Radar Union. I ride a D3 Ion-S 67” into 10.75. 175-180 lbs/M7/32 mph. I picked up a 67” Union to ride the first few sets of the season, then take to lake house for open water rides on the big lake behind a 90hp Boston Whaler, and guest use. It’s a great ski. I’ve had fun with it in the course at 28 and 32 off.
Baller OldboyII Posted May 16, 2022 Author Baller Share Posted May 16, 2022 @ColeGiacopuzzi thank you for answer. Summarizing opinions - I would order Union 69 as a spare ski for difficult times. One more question: what do you think - is this a silly idea in the meantime to move front boot on my Senate 67 up to inch forward in order to make more ski under and behind rear foot to facilitate getting up? Or it is wrong way?
Baller ColeGiacopuzzi Posted May 16, 2022 Baller Share Posted May 16, 2022 Not really, If a ski is to small its very tough to work with that. Moving the bindings doesn't change the surface area of the ski; plus by moving the bindings forward from where they should be it would make it harder to ski on. You're essentially locking the tail in the water as you move the bindings forward. So it becomes more difficult to turn as the tail won't want to slide. From what you're looking for in your original post The Union is your best bet as it has more width than the senate. a Bigger ski=more surface area which equals easier to get up on and ride.
