My late grandfather claimed that he and two partners owned the patent for the original Dewalt woodworking machine in Lancaster, PA. One of the partners sold the rights to another company and skipped town causing the other partner to commit suicide. It took my grandfather years of work to dig the partnership out of debt. 
 

I sometimes wonder how things might have turned out if he had been able to retain the rights …

I think its sold exclusively at Home Depot. Promotional package includes an impact drill, battery, and charger.
