  1. @rab - you are on the right path here. The next step is to replace the laces with bungee. You may need to add some loops or drill some holes but the bungee will give you that secure feeling and still release with no hindrance. Add an intuition liner (heat formed to your foot) and you will never need another binding. Enjoy!
  2. Never too old....55 and still using it.
  3. I will be in Vail next week myself. It looks like some snow will be coming in later in the week to freshen things up. If it is sunny and warm, the snow will set up overnight, so you will want to follow the sun as it softens the snow. As much as we all want freshies, a couple of warm days can be a lot of fun if you work the mountain correctly. Check in at ski patrol - those guys are like us ballers and love to talk about their mountain.
  4. We run a handicap tournament every summer, and I thank you @Horton, @Kelvin and @Than_Bogan for the guidance on how to handicap effectively. We run a team event and the team with the newbie or kid would usually win (yes, usually my team) and the team with the level 8s would be very close to their averages. We have always pulled the penalties out of the WSTIMS average.
  5. Great video! Now I'm getting psyched to get the boards out and hit the slopes.
  6. @jbwann‌ talked me into a couple of sets on Sunday. Sure felt good to see a buoy or two!
  7. Boats hulls are constructed from polyester resin and glass fiber. The price of oil will help the resin producers' cost basis, and competition and smart purchasing agents will push the price of resin downward. This will start happening soon. Unfortunately the cost of resin has decreased as a percentage of the cost of a boat, with speed controls, touch screens, 2000 watt stereos etc. now being standard equipment. Not much hope for any significant price relief on the boats. We'll just have to settle for a 30% drop in fuel costs.
  8. @shaneH - thank you. This is the first time I have heard that older boats can be used for Class C tournaments. Good to know...
  9. I have used flexible garden fencing for the guard. It works great and adds virtually no weight or drag. I will be doing a few handles for friends come this spring, as a little fencing goes a long way. Learned the same lessons as pointed out above - I like the nail clipper suggestion for removing sharp edges.
  10. My wife will not even get in a boat with me anymore. She has her horse, I have a ski club...we get on just fine!
  11. Our club is $2k per year including boat but not gas. In addition, we loan the club money in order to buy the boat. We're all more than happy with this arrangement.
  12. @RazorRoss3 is right on target. As it relates to the rear foot, the rear binding must allow the ankle to flex and/or the heel to lift so that the knee can bend. If we have a rear hard shell tightened down so the ankle cannot flex and the heel cannot lift, we are destined to struggle with the back foot blues. to say it another way, it is hard enough to get the COM forward without the rear binding keeping the COM back.
  13. Full winterization is required but it can be fairly late, depending on the year. We can usually ski well into November and can often get on the water again in Jan or Feb if we get a sunny day. If that happens, we just re-winterize. Not worth taking any chances.
  14. Studies have shown that caffeine improves athletic performance, and it certainly helps me. I prefer red bull or a glass of sweet tea before a set. Of course at my age....
  15. @ToddL‌ - sharing the preferred path would be nice for tournaments. Good thought.
  16. It would be helpful to have a display that indicates variance from the center line of the ideal boat path. This would be most helpful for the set up to the course. Many lakes require a turn before the course and both skier and driver would benefit from a better/earlier set up.
  17. Hey! I used to live in Cleveland. Never mind....
  18. Seth will be at the Collierville Ski Club near Memphis on the 16th and 17th. We still have a couple slots available....
  19. I agree with using a variety of exercises, and I make sure to use some form of squats, dead lifts and pull ups on a regular basis. A great variant on squats is the one leg squat with a dumbbell in the opposite hand - it builds core strength and develops the muscles used for balance. This winter we added a set of rings hung from the garage ceiling. Good for a wide variety of upper body exercises - dips are killer on free rings!
