  1. But more importantly what’s your next boat? Your “Dream Boat”
  2. It’s obviously just junk out waiting for the trash man to come pick up...there might be an extra charge
  3. I have 2 jugs that are the same but you could use a rag or anything you can come up with so it slides, to be able to use different size cans. I just used some closed cell foam 1/2” thick and electrical tape. Anything that will seal the can temporarily
  4. I taped the foam right where his hand makes the seal. Then push on the can and once gas starts to flow break the seal. Stand back and tilt the can at the end to get everything but 1/2 cup of gas.
  5. Do you have any pics of how the filler hose goes into the tank? Sounds like you should be siphoning the gas into the tank. If you can get a 1” inside diameter hose to fit in the filler neck and the other end in the gas can, make a seal with tape and some foam, at the gas can about 12” from the end. Just enough so the hose reaches the bottom of the can. Then shove the other end into the boat gas tank, you should be able to push 18”-24” of hose in the boat. Then push the taped foam tight to the gas can and squeeze the gas can. This will push the gas out of the can directly into the gas tank with no chance of getting backed up.
  6. If the battery isn’t getting a full charge that could be causing your problem as well. Simple to check the alternator. With engine off, your battery should read around 12 volts. With the engine running, most alternators will show 14 and above on the battery. If it is less than I would say 13.5 you need a new alternator.
  7. Yes I was going to say radio to but if you have had it for a couple of years like that it shouldn’t be the problem but. Red wire is power that hooks to ignition key switch or toggle switch Black wire is negative Yellow wire is the “always hot” wire to remember time and preset stations If the red and yellow wires are hooked together that would cause a slow drain on the battery.
  8. How hard is the bottom. Have you thought of screw in style earth anchors.
  9. How long are these boats? In that pic it looks like it would be a 25’ boat.
  10. He has a really early handle release also. I have noticed this with my kid. Holding the handle to long means pulling to long. Telling him to do one handlers sooner is a huge improvement and he seems to get more of a glide to the buoy. Dropping the outside hand soon after the wake forces them to get tall on the ski, get on the inside edge early, and get ready for the turn.
  11. I think you guys have convinced me to stick with the old ‘96. We are just out there having fun and attacking buoys
  12. He has been running from full legnth to 15 off. I haven’t thought about running him shorter but he is working on one handed turns and getting a little wider than the mini course buoys. I think he will start progressing pretty quick next summer and may be trying a different ski then.
  13. The battery is under the spotter and the rear seat is removed, so maybe I will try a little weight up front. My son is skiing on a 62” HO Perdator. Not sure of the year but it is a great first slalom ski. Those first pics are from before I moved the mini course buoys 10’ from the turn buoys. They were about 17’ in.
  14. In the pics it looks like there isn’t much wake at all. Maybe I need to tell him to try to be on edge of the ski more across the wake. His ski jumps pretty good now but he is pretty good about crossing it. Pretty sure he will be trying and full course by the beginning of next summer and maybe that will make a bit of difference.
  15. Thanks for all the comments. I am really happy with the ‘96 prostar, it does everything I want, so maybe I will have to try some more weight up front. We always try to run 1/4 tank or less of gas. I think this time every year I just look for an excuse to upgrade.
  16. I have a 9 year old starting to ski the mini course around 26 to 28 mph and is rocking it pretty good. The thing is, I am pulling him with a 16’ Crestliner with a 45 hp tiller. With that boat, it is wide open and the wake is compairible to a grown up behind a ski boat (not a factor at all). When I pull him with the ski boat at full legnth or 15 off 28 mph the wake is huge for him. We ski behind a ‘96 ProStar 190. I love the boat but for him it’s like hitting a wakeboard wake. I’m pretty sure I know the answer about what wake is best but wanted to hear what options I have. Looking around the $20k mark. And imagine it will be hard to beat a Nautique 196. I really like Malibu’s but have not had many chances to ski behind them. How is the slow speed wake on the early 2000’s Response.
  17. @Than_Bogan In the video he looks to be a pretty good skier but that speed is way to slow and the wake is even worse. The wake will improve leaps and bounds with more speed obviously. I would say start working your way up to 34 (free skiing) then after a couple weeks of that sure bump down to 30 but at 15 off I bet he would be skiing the course pretty quickly. And he has Ball of Spray to put video on when he needs some more tips.
  18. That rope looks way to short for you. Like said above get a rope so you know your length. Most start skiing at 15 off so a 60’ rope. I would say start getting the boat speed up. In the video you are really sinking coming out of the turn. Your goal should be start free skiing at 34 then when you start skiing in the course bump down to 32.
  19. I believe that in Wisconsin if there is a lake association they can apply any rules to their lake and it becomes law? I met a guy, he said they had a rule no skiing until 9am and no skiing after like 6pm.
  20. Thanks for the suggestions. Right now I have them half way out from the boat guide to the turn buoy. My 9 year old son is starting to run the course and that seems to be a good distance out for now.
