  1. The riser gasket orientation mistake was a good find, the two water columns will be slightly different heights which could offset proper even flow.

     

    Check the thermostat housing for old impellar bits too.

     

    Typical dual mufflers have 2-3 baffles that cover about 1/2-2/3 the area, however they should be oriented at 12oclock. Maybe on a long prior service the muffler got oriented any old way

  2. Seriously, your ship, you're captain. As been said, everyone in my ski circle stands for a moment on the platform and drips off the heavy, its not torture. Its not unreasonable. Also not frivolous and more than cosmetic on a wood based boat. everyone gets it.

     

    During club pulls I've had club members clamber and flop in bringing a gallon in every time till i just explain what i need to see. most times, they remember. Not everything is a fight. Noone should fear snowflake fewwings either. Yet to encounter anyone who did not see the merit nor was sour afterwards. if i ever do, frankly don;t want them in my boat.

    Sometimes the drip down doesn't happen. Thats when you don't freak your sh|t either. We're all imperfect humans.

    Similarly to skimtb, for those times its forgotten and new people are expected, i keep a couple sacrificial beach towels laid out to soak up the heavy, leaving the stern not saturated.

    I also give my jacket some swings afterwards. no mater who's boat im in. Others may not be picking up that lead, and thats ok.

    Indeed most marine holleys have no external adjustment but its not hard and fast.

    But what you shouldn't see are any bowl plugs for setting the level.

    Holley Blue bowl gaskets let you take the bowl off a couple times with no damage and

     

    Yeah something is amiss with the primary float/neede/seat. go in there and chech for gunk. If trash in there, investigate how it got past the filter.

     

    A little oil on the xfer tube orings help with leak-free assembly. then roll and push the xfer tube around fore/aft and seat the orings well after assembly.

    as i read it, it was driven once successfully. Was there rust on the dipstick when it was picked up? was it checked then?

     

    possibly overheated when test drove and then cooled/contracted and pulled water up the risers and sat like that till tried again.

     

    I'm not sure one could conclude much from rust on a dipstick three-four days later. Cast iron rusts within hours.

     

    If it was the very first time you cranked the boat, now was it test driven?

     

    Maybe its just the wording but my spock-logic is twitchy

    After some internal deliberation, applied this Chinesium EVA, for about 80 bucks

    Should gain 1.5" of interior width

    Hopefully it wont be a puddle on the floor in the summer heat

     

    Ground around the log, due to a persistent weeping leak, applied a layer of glass with totalboat epoxy with some silica thickener and a few drops of black dye. getting there

    yeah. A part of me wishes to hear it uncorked

     

    But, i must consider my neighbors and many residents, given the early time we get on the water. Being a nuisance, suddenly the world descends upon you.

     

    Once I lost just one flapper and i didn't like the result at mild cruise,

    Also, being able to consult the observer and hear signals without issue also adds the the safe experience for everyone

     

    However if it were invertaflow quiet, i just couldn't take it !
