  1. To enlarge an existing hole and damage gelcoat use a jigsaw or holesaw to cut a piece of ply fitting old hole diameter then tape it into existing hole. It provides the ‘centre’ for holesaw matching new transducer diameter. Initially run drill in reverse at low speed until it’s through gel coat then just drill normally.
  2. The right kind of glass might work. Not sure if impeller would be polishing it or scratching it as it rotates. Probably depend on how much silt or grit is in the water. Question is would a transparent cover encourage 'she'll be right for a bit longer' poor maintenance? I've often wondered about one of these https://engineguard.com.au/ to catch the loose or blown water pipe scenario where the in engine block water sensor might not due to lack of water
  3. So tall and smooth almost it looks like a curving gate pullout glide. Amazing.
  4. I recently brought that very T shirt! I'll be my favourite once summer returns.
  5. Off topic question; in @BraceMaker video the pylon moves a lot. is that normal?
  6. @Sethro great boat! My username hints at what I have 😉 Wish you had cable throttle as I'm wanting to upgrade my digital pro to stargazer. Looking at your photo, is that a spare platform stacked on the platform?
  7. Which ones are best for you will depend on what level you are skiing at and what you are/need to work on. For me skiing at 18.25m (15' off) level the Gates episode was the best. Before then I'd not known about why gates was so important, and even more useful to me from that episode, learning about it being essential to get into athletic stance/stack before the load starts. Game changer knowledge for me.
  8. Indmar manual states "Once the engine is started, allow it to reach operating temperatures of at least 120°-140° F (49˚-60˚ C) before accelerating to speeds above 3000 RPM". I thought the manual mentioned the ECM having a low temperature limiter that prevented >3000rpm but I can't see it when just looked. Did find mention of a tapered RPM reduction for high temperatures.
  9. Easy answer! Ski more often. Winterised today and the boat has done just 12.5hrs for 22/23 season
  10. Sorry to say it however if there's not enough trust between the 8 owners to use pen and paper then I suspect a partnership isn't going to work.
  11. If skiing a river or tidal course then GPS would be ideal as give speed relative to the buoys. But if free skiing river or tidal then a paddlewheel becomes better as ski feel remains the same
  12. I suspect @lundbergwill be able to produce a plot that shows the different distances
  13. Yes, does seem high however one off / very low production hand made labour intensive so understandable. Just guessing, maybe it'd fall says 20% if more CNC, mass production etc?
  14. I see nothing wrong with the concept of a basic towing tractor boat. Not everyone wants $, luxury, complexity, cleaning, weight (for towing and effect on wake), etc Do wonder about the design of the bow though. Dip the bow in a big roller and driver will get a very wet lap.
  15. Driver buys the beers for B. Why because he/she drove B back to dock. When driving newbies we often say 'you just follow me' 😉
  16. I watched the Sail GP Saturday and Sunday when it was here in New Zealand. Amazing machines. The fleet of 9 were doing around 80kph in 26-28kph breeze! Lyttelton harbour is surrounded by hills on 3 sides so I was sitting up there getting a great view of the race course. The yacht's initially didn't look that fast, partially due to absence of any wake wash, until saw the chase boats struggling to keep up and leaving long wakes. Very impressive racing sometimes approaching in opposite directions and leaving a gap of only a metre. The starts too, arriving at the start line doing 60-80kph and within 0.2 seconds of perfect timing. Mad skills!

    I/o for skiing

How to identify the diamond hulls https://www.themalibucrew.com/index.php?/forums/topic/18040-diamond-vs-wake-hulls/
  18. Disagree with comparison to 196 finish. In that era the Nautiques had far more plain fibreglass surfaces than Malibu did and much plainer looking dash, etc. Malibu had more vinyl, more luxury feel. Utility vs luxury. Some of that extra vinyl will have not aged as well plain fibreglass. The build of the Nautiques was more solid. Less screws direct into fibreglass. Agree with the sound. Notably deeper sound, noiser at all speeds and there can be a real throb at low speed (1500rpm). They have internal mufflers but no way near as effective as single Nautique outlet or dual Mastercraft outlet. Aesthetics are personal choice. Older Nautiques are a Tupperware soap dish compared to sleek sportcar Mastercrafts and Malibus 😉 LOL
  19. Previously had a 2002 Response LX with 310hp carb engine, Titan 2 tower, shower, heater, manual wedge, etc. Great boat but the step over dash from open bow with bimini in place was a PITA. Really ackward. Now have 2003 Response LXi with 340hp EFI engine, Titan 3 tower, shower, heater, manual wedge, etc. Even better. Engine starts better and walk through is awesome. The Responses look sleek and are well, 'responsive' to drive.
  20. 1 minute is awesome! Even several minutes is quicker than using trailer once account for back in, disconnect, reverse boat off, tie up, pull out trailer, park, walk back, etc
  21. Moomba entry is by invite only so its likely many more resident Australians (and nearby Kiwis) want to ski but don't make the cut
  22. Sure do. Knew about his wakeboard fame but not the skiing
  23. Does your setup might prevent you from walking around the back of the boat to remove a platform? Simply pull two pins and the platform on Response LXi just lifts off. Easy as to do. We love our LXi and won't part with it. The open bow, or more particularly the walkthrough is so good for easy boat access. It's very rare we actually have anyone sitting in there.
  24. Just go straight to an HO Hovercraft. No need for combos
