  1. How does it sync with and overlay the video? How accurate is the speed data? Unless I'm missing something, Cole is going 50mph at 1 ball (hey, nice turn). Horton 25mph at 2 ball. I am not just being a critic. I really hope this works and if it does, think it will be more useful than a thousand conversations about "carrying speed through the turns", fast this and slow that.
  2. @skidawg and @markchilcutt Are you both still running the shorter deeper settings 2.465 6.940? Thanks
  3. @DanE makes a good point about the head of the caliper being in a different place for right v left measurement. Even if the fin is exactly the same depth on both sides it would likely measure different based upon the position of the head against the base of the ski.
  4. Sho nuff my onside was deeper than the off by 5. I have never even thought about this. I put the smallest washer I had in and got a 15/1000 reduction in depth onside. How shallow an onside are you finding is acceptable? Before the washer my depth was 2.450 (shallow by traditional notions) Now 2.435 (I have never had a fin this shallow) I want to try the idea but I don't have time to re-invent the wheel. Please give some guidance as to the acceptable ranges. Thanks!!
  5. How much would you pay for a fully functioning Wakeye App? Would have to include fixed focus to avoid the wandering. For me, it would be worth quite a bit. Maybe an incentive for Wakeye to spend the $$ to solve the issues?
  6. I am experimenting on a spare black Reflex shell. Will flatten it tonight. What is the best way to ensure that the flattened boot is secure in the horseshoe and that there is no slack? Tape seems too temporary and maintenance intense. Thanks
  7. First, I cannot overstate how appreciative I am of the work and thought that the Adams have put into articulating these ideas. Second, while I understand and appreciate the methodical and linear roll out of the articles, please jump ahead and post your thoughts on the gate. A lot of us are starting to ski and it would be helpful to start at ...the start. Thanks
  8. Wow. Thanks Adams. Such great, understandable explanation and illustration of concepts. Where do we sign up for the Denali ski school? Ski language is wacked. Not much of a common vocabulary leads to much confusion. Are they saying the same thing in a different way? Who knows? I'm thinking you guys are establishing the dictionary, the common meaning.
  9. I like the ease of using my phone to record. However, it does not have a manual focus mode so is always hunting for focus. Video watched in real speed is acceptable. In slo mo, it seems every other frame is way out of focus. I don't and won't own Apple. What is a good remedy to get solid focus on the skier? Any phones have manual focus for video or auto focus that steadily keeps the skier in focus?
  10. I was coming off of a ski that was very different than the Vapor. At first, I struggled with the finish of the turns. Rossi's explanation above makes sense of what I was feeling at the buoy. The Vapor comes under the line and heads cross course sooner off the apex. It will not (at least for me) make the rounder turns I was accustomed to. Once I embraced the path the ski wanted v. what I was accustomed to, everything started to click. You can get moving inbound fast on this ski. Ski is very stable. I never feel like I am going to eat it through the white water. Ski stays level unless I do something stupid. As a total aside, I watched part of the US Open. Watched Brooke Baldwin. My thought was that the Vapor would dig her turns. Up over the ski in about the same position as she is on a trick ski, pivot and almost immediately be headed the other way. Impressive...and only 14 or 15 yo.
  11. Apropos to having hips and shoulders moving in different directions: Our lumbar spines have a maximum rotation per vertebral segment of 3 degrees. This means that herniation can occur past this point. By contrast, we have 7 degrees per segment in our thoracic spine. Train low back for stability not mobility and train to get the mobility from hips and thoracic. Also the peak load is right off the buoy at the precise time that we are twisted ranging from 600lb of load and up. Can be a bad combination.
  12. @adamhcaldwell Please explain the fin back move. Seems that flattens the ski even more; more tip down? Does the attached PDF have any validity. Mind you, I'm not arguing; just asking. I have discussed this with top pros and get answers that are all over the place and contradictory to one another. Having you throw some science on it would be great. Thanks for helping educate us!
  13. @richarddoane Share your shallower settings? Water temp? Thanks.
  14. Yep. Should have stated size and #s 67 29.5 17.75 2.462, .733 (regular not slot)( I get .740 slot) 6.960
  15. Would really like to hear from those skiing on this about what is working for you setting wise. I rode it for first time last night with Rossi settings. Really nice feel to the ski. Smooth. Really solid and confidence inspiring through the wakes. Definitely turns on both sides. I will need to ride it some more to learn what it likes in the turns. The ability to hit my pull out mark (width and height) was nearly automatic. It also allowed me to maintain my position before the turn in very easily (Did not want to turn or suck back in until I was ready to go). Felt very balanced and at ease before turn in. Transition from pull out to glide really solid and smooth. Good stuff. As to settings, only made one adjustment. 6.950 to 6.960. Was getting a lot of tip rise onside with the former. None with the latter. At 6.960 getting some alternating tip bite/rise offside (not too bad but some)... will split the difference and try 6.955. Anybody try the Rini #s? Compared to Rossi?
  16. I would like to hear about this ski from any 34.2 skiers that are skiing on the 67" and who aren't getting free or discounted skis from Radar. No affiliation. Is it balanced on both sides? Another NASCAR ski? Stiff as an I beam? Soft? Just right on the flex? Would love it if... ?

@EFW I did write it. However, there is not an original thought in it. When I hurt my back, I researched a lot. Read two of the McGill books and lots of other info. The above is my distillation of the information into something hopefully useful and actionable by skiers. The absolute best at putting the info into an actionable format is Mike Robertson. Has a masters degree in biomechanics. Ignore the hokey marketing, the guy is really knowledgeable. Not promoting it; just citing it as my main source of what I believe to be great information. http://robertsontrainingsystems.com/core-fitness/

    * Crunches shorten the rectus abdominus. * The lumbar spine has only 3 degrees max rotation per segment while the thoracic spine has up to 7 degrees rotation per segment. * Shoulders that round forward or have some C shape to them, greatly limit thoracic rotation. The shortening of rectus abdominus can lead to the C shaped shoulders to some extent. When RA shortens, it flattens the lordotic curve in the low back which greatly weakens it as so much strength derives from the structure of the curve. If the shoulders are rounded and greatly limiting thoracic rotation, then the rotational limits are exceeded in the low back. The low back is now flatter, weaker and subjected to rotational forces that exceed natural limits. If we add to this a lack of hip mobility and short hamstrings the low back is doomed. The rotation is to be derived from the hips and thoracic spine not lumbar. The lumbar spine needs to be trained for stability not movement. Planks, side planks, walking while carrying one kettlebell overhead etc. can provide superior core training.
  19. Mandatory that they watch this video. Ends discussion about the wakes.
  20. Oh yeah, turn in point too. Slower. I am not criticizing anything... just recognizing my own shortcomings with regard to my onside turn.
  21. I love this. Data rather than hypothesizing. The first time I rode in the boat with a strain gauge connected to a lap top tracking the load points, I was really surprised. With one of the smoothest 34 skiers on earth behind the boat, peak load was 650ish (lbs) within a ski length inside the buoy line. Dropped to around 400-450 by the centerline. No matter what we think, the highest load is out at the buoy line. All the talk of speed through the turn will get tested with this device. In video one, your speed at/near the apex is about 10mph higher offside than onside. As a lifelong digger of holes on my onside, that explains it right there. I always thought I was turning too hard, wrong, etc ... I bet I am just slow and literally skiing out of a hole.
  22. Razorskier1 Please confirm your DFT. .84? I only have one ride on my 67.5 T2 but, I know I need to go forward with the fin. I am 6' 180 so kinda borderline between sizes. If .84, did Mapple go there in one whack or did you take smaller bites to get there. Thanks for anything you can add that will reduce my time to get it dialed in.
  23. I would be grateful if someone could educate me on how to speed up the process of getting video from my camera to the cloud. Currently using youtube which takes way too long for me. The camera has proprietary software from which I import the video to my windows 7 laptop. Only Apple device in my home is child's iphone. I checked out Vimeo and would be willing to pay for their no wait conversion if it works. Need a basic, easy, and fast way to compress video to speed upload (one product recommendation better than many so I don't have to choose). You can tell by my question that I am starting from an ignorant position. Just want to divide by at least 4 the time it is taking me to do this seemingly easy task. Thanks.
  24. Mark, could you please post a pick of your slalom? I got to watch, for the first time from the boat, some guys slaloming. One of them joined our club. Although this was new to me, I could not help thinking "his ski sucks". Even when he held an edge through the wakes, the ski would bounce twice between the second wake and the buoy. His ski was completely flat on the bottom. Looks like yours is catamaran style using two regular skis? If he'll let me, I want to try his ski just so I can get some idea of how hard it is to ski it. I am certain we can come up with something better than what he is riding. Thanks
