  1. One article I read was about some hard core rock climber who tore his bicep tendon at the shoulder. He opted to not have it reattached and noted the only down side was he couldn't do as many one armed pull ups as he could before the injury. I figured if he could still do ANY one armed pull ups I could survive without mine. @shaneh, I called david west after my injury and he said if your skiing right you don't need your bicep anyway. @texas6, 35 more like. In fact I've run 35 the last two times out. No handle guard yet, I just keep the handle till the boat takes it away.
  2. I had that injury, among others, from putting my arm through the handle. I still remember looking at my arm after the fall. It looked like I had a softball just above my elbow and no muscle above that. None of the docs I saw recommended reattachment. Everything I read said surgery to reattach was not indicate in patients over 40 or so. I did not have reattachment surgery and have no problems skiing. Injury was around 8 years ago.
  3. Did you see the shot from the air, before it got huge? You can see the reef as the guy rides one of the smaller waves. Very Shallow.
  4. I can't think of anything that would provide more of rush than what these guys must have experienced. Definitely way off topic, but very cool.
  5. Velcro flap on the new Strada bindings is cracking and detatching from the boot at the point where it attaches. Anyone else have this problem?
  6. I was at a ski school this spring and a guy there was wearing a helmet for the same reason. He had blown an ear drum previously and now wore the helmet as prevention of same.
  7. @clemsondave I had the same problem with the 38 loop on an InTow rope. I bought 2 new ones which seem OK but I'm keeping my eye on them. The InTow handles are top notch.
  8. I think it will cause the other skiers to have a few more butterflys than normal, in a good way. How cool would that be?
  9. @boarditup will have some good input on this.
  10. @Horton, what about a poll on this? When I ski the heal of my back foot is; 'On the footbed', 'Raised from footbed' or 'I ski the course on doubles',
  11. @TWB, were you able to adjust to them eventually? @skierjp, skies into 28 off at 34. Boot size is a good thought, I'll check.
  12. I'll discuss that with my ski partner. Heel up seems contrary to a balanced stance. Just trying to get some other points of view. I recommended the Strada to him cause I liked my RS1's so much. He's finding the adjustment difficult so I'm trying to help.
  13. Do those of you that ski with a rear to loop have heel down when skiing or heel up, or combination of the two??
  14. Apparently the rubber bindings held his heal down much more and the Stradas don't hold it down near as much. I don't notice my rear heal lifting when I ski, but truthfully I haven't really thought about it.
  15. A friend of mine bought a set of 2012 Strada bindings and has been skiing on them probably 10 time or so by now. He's complaining that the heal of his rear foot won't stay down on the foot bed. His old bindings were animals and he said he didn't have that problem in the animals. I moved to RS-1's from Wileys a couple of years ago and never had any problems adjusting. Anyone else experience problems with the heal of your rear foot when going to Strada/RS1boots from rubber? Thanks.
  16. @Horton, appealing because it works so well on my on side. If I could get my hips pointed down course on my offside I think it would be awesome, but I can't. Why do some (Jodi and others) say hips should be pointed in the same direction as the tip of your ski? I think it's because that's about the best you can do on your offside. When I try to get my hips pointed down course on my offside I do all kinds of weird (bad) things.
  17. I asked for opinions because I've heard and tried both. I agree that being coached or told to do something, even if physically impossible, may be a good coaching technique. I think that is the case with rotate, specifically hips, down coarse or toward the boat when crossing the wakes. I just don't think it's physiologically possible. Even the photos of Nate's offside his hips are only slightly rotated toward the boat from the direction his ski is pointed. I would love for someone to post a photo of a skier on offside pull behind the boat who's hips are truly pointed square down coarse. I've given up on trying to get my hips pointed down coarse on my offside, however appealing the idea might be. I can't do it now and don't think I ever could. I like the idea of trying to be symmetrical, holding a position I can get into on both sides. I try to get good coaching several times a year. It's the best money you can spend skiing IMHO. I always learn something when I get coaching, even if it's what I don't want to do.
  18. " ... I want my shoulders, hips and everything else facing down course - square with the boat." The photo (WSM P64-65) shows his onside pull, and he's doing what he says there. See attached picture of his offside. Not as "square with the boat". I'm not arguing with what the mans says because what he's doing obviously works. But you clearly cannot implement this as well on your offside pull as your onside pull. For me this created asymmetry in the course. I had a deadly onside pull followed by a horrible offside pull. I skied with Jodi Fisher and he tried to get me to keep my hips more pointed in the direction of the ski. Lots of things got better when I started concentrating on that. You just can't get in the same position on your offside pull as you can on your onside pull. What are your thoughts on this? http://static.cl1.vanilladev.com/ballofspray.vanillaforums.com/uploads/FileUpload/90/8049ccc0f62ddd125c2a63e2f90bac.jpg
  19. Coaching in march to provide a more knowledgeable answer to the question. Until then Get and stay stacked. My hips tend to fall out the back.
  20. News Flash! A previously unidentified volcano is erupting in AK. With no outlet for currently rising pressure the eruption is expected to be severe. The new volcano has been named Mt. Wayne.
  21. Exercise in the off season, been at it every other day since December vs none last year. Lessons in March, and any opportunity I have after that. Smarter training. Work more on technique early season and try not to chase a PB until later.
  22. I was thinking Trolling also, or "You might be a redneck if ...."
