Unless you were born into a course-skiing family most skiers I know started with a sub-optimal situation.  But they knew someone - uncle, neighbor whatever - that could throw up a wall of water and that seemed pretty cool.  I’d say for most people some element of  skimming over the water, or showing off, or hanging with friends was the hook. Awareness of six turn buoys came later. 
 

Getting started does not require a direct drive inboard on a private lake. In fact if we define it as such, it’s absolutely exclusive.  I live in MN, so skiable water is a non-issue.  Winter is an issue, but that provides other opportunities. 

@Taynton  this conversation comes up with some frequency on BOS.  What is the root of your concern?  
 

Is it slalom specifically or three-event?  Recreational slalom skiing, not rounding buoys?  You lack ski site/access?  Buddies or boat driver to ski with?  You wish there was greater awareness by the general public for the sport you love?  Not enough R&D being put into boats and equipment?  You wish you could turn on the TV and see waterskiing tournament coverage on a Sunday afternoon?  You have figured out what works for you, but concerned that waterskiing isn’t becoming a passion for your kids? 

I have no idea if anyone has ever dropped a course in there.  I remember it as about 3/4 mile long, maybe 150’ wide. Most of the perimeter is rock rip rap, so it was easily churned up and stayed pretty rolly with boat traffic the one time I skied there nearly 40 yrs ago. 

I’ll close the loop on the ‘72 Maverick comparison. We had a ‘73 4 dr Maverick for a season.  302 V8, 3-speed manual on column.  On paper it showed some promise, but it was a shitty car. 

@MDB1056 I think that was the ski that first had me seeking info on fin/binding set up. Tried a number of things. To no avail.  I even had the Wade Cox turn and burn video. 

I bought one of the originals (coming from a Stiletto). Locked in and very fast across the wakes.  Turned…. eventually, sort of. I sold it after a month.  
 

Absolutely a great looking ski. 

I waterskied a couple laps around Marine Stadium in Long Beach 1983 or 84.  Mostly to tick the box that I HAD waterskied in SCal.

There are a couple of 66” Titanium’s on SIA.

my brother in Denver sent me a photo of a Hexcel set out for trash pickup in the alley.  It either got picked for someone’s collection, or land-filled.

March 23, 2013 my buddy texted me from the twin cites lake we ski on. “I’m out here on the ice parked next to an ice fisherman who reports 23” of ice still on the lake. Let’s ski!”  He had an old pair of snow skis in his garage so 6 of us took some runs behind the Suburban. 

I tried a pair of combo skis too but that wasn’t much fun.

I’ve posted before but we had 8 up (tried 9) behind 150hp outboard. Mix of med-sized adults and a couple jr high kids. Yeah it was a long drag.
 

3 kids behind 20hp. Ages 7, 9, 10. 14’ tiller-steer MiroCraft. Hull prob weighed only 175#.  Did that for a couple summers before we got too big.  6 years my dad REALLY upgraded to a 13’ Whaler.

I’ve been a member since 1901. 
That must count for something.

Must be 40 yrs of skis there.  Some shared video documentation would help prove the skiable value they no doubt continue to hold.

LXi a little wider boat, supposed to be a little softer wake, but I find the wake is virtually same between LX and LXi.  I ski regularly behind an 1999 LX, 2001 LX barefooter, and 2004 LXi. All perfect pass boats.

Much improved over the earlier Echelon.

That crazy offside wheelie turn where her ski rotates then points at the sky, then down course, then drops into strong cross-course angle. And yes lean, stacked with rope line leading her feet.

your embroidery folks will tell you what kind of file type they need, and the cost per color for digitizing the file so it can be embroidered.
