  1. In terms of energy input between displacement and planing hulls, I think it’s telling that surf boats commonly turn 3,000 - 3,600 rpm at 11 mph.
  2. We have a 68” at the family lake cabin that we bought about 1976. Still gets used a few times a summer. These are a fiberglass ski with a thin wood veneer on top.
  3. @drew not arguing the Ion is a great ski. I’m on a 67” EVO. This guy is 13” taller and 70-80 lbs heavier than me and you think a 68” ski is the ticket?
  4. OK, Edit with a little more info: Asking about a ski for son of a friend. I’ve pulled him before. He’s a recreational skier with a weak off-side turn. Never going to ski the course. Wants to make spray. Only skis 75’ long line. Skier: 35 years old. 6’ 10” 225 lb on his college BBall roster. Tallest guy I’ve ever seen ski. Add 15-20 lb to that these days. Currently recreationally skiing on a 68” KD7000 from 1998. Behind his dad’s 2010 Malibu LXi, he likes 36 mph, because he says he gets less spray in his face. He thinks he wants a new 69” ski. Isn’t this guy the poster-child for a 71” Senate or 71” Omni? Size charts I see put him on the max. size ski. Any other ideas?
  5. In 1972 my dad bought a $30 pair of 68” Nash combos from Holiday gas station in my ND home town. It said “tunnel concave” on the 1/16” deep depression milled into the bottoms - so you KNOW they were made for performance. My older brother got the ski with the slalom toe. My dad took a jig saw and cut 4” off the tail, and 2” off the tip to make a slalom ski for 11 yr old me. We added a rear toe strap and I swapped the fin for the deepest metal fin I could find. I tried my hardest to ski on that thing for two years. It didn’t turn. I would occasionally bury the tip on wake crossings. I wiped out a lot. When I was 13, the local sporting goods store started carrying these skis called O’Brien. We scraped our money together and bought this red/silver/blue beauty of a ski called a Mach 1.
  6. Working on fitness for my other skiing The skater’s equivalent of morning glass:
  7. @jepski it's worth a try. Nothing to lose.
  8. Had my first full body skin check Dec/20. Easy to do. All is well. Peace of mind. Thanks for the prompt of this thread @Wish
  9. Wake bike video: You can do a deep water start and ride straight behind the boat. Am I missing something?
  10. @mbabiash Does the concave bottom actually have a hard crease (vs more constant radius) ? Photos in sun sure look like it.
  11. I know this is a buoyancy conversation, but in terms of safety even CGA type III vests are not designed to turn an unconscious wearer. “A TYPE III PFD, or FLOTATION AID, is good for calm, inland water, or where there is a good chance of quick rescue. This PFD type will not turn unconscious wearers to a face-up position. The wearer may have to tilt their head back to avoid turning face down.” I’ve been through WSI training. CGA vests are required in MN on public water where we ski, but I choose to wear a comp vest (zipper plus 2 buckles) for early morning skiing with a trusted boat crew.
  12. Yes to above comments, plus bring a small cooler full of hot water along in boat. Dip hands before and after a set. Dip feet too.
  13. My suit is dryer, but I’m not sold on flex seal as the solution. I think the natural on/off cycles of turning sleeves and top inside-out isn’t helpful. How much stiffer? 2x? I sprayed a couple of coats of Flexseal. I’m going after some seams again with seam sealer. When I get really bored this winter.
  14. @jhughes yes And in the Terry Winter 1/4 speed video we love to watch, he is skiing T-Factors and D3 X7 ski.
  15. That’s it. I’m replacing the fin on my ski with a slice of pizza. But don’t tell my sponsors.
  16. WF website testimonies page would indicate some familiar skiers are using or have tried it.
  17. Hold on a second...I’m trying to check the drip rate on the prop shaft packing.
  18. My favorite over the shoulder cell phone shot.
  19. Contact them and see what they recommend. O’Neill customer service https://us.oneill.com/pages/wetsuits-customer-service
  20. Skied Nov. 2 last week in MN. Water temp was down to 45. It’s been mild this past week, but our 8” of snow and weeks of cold were enough to get most boats tucked away for winter. Happens every year. Depressing.
  21. Did a quick ski today with 52/50 air/water temps. Suit seems as dry as it ever was. I’m not convinced Flex Seal was best solution as it made the fabric stiffer, but it seemed to keep water out. ?
