  1. Get the carbon ski, lighter is better, especially for less advanced skiers Imo. You are in the course now, and progressing fast, no reason not to get a tournament ski. There is little difference between the Senate and the vice outside the width anyways. I tried the vice for a few weeks last year and noticed a marked improvement on the strada I skied on for only a few sets, it was much easier to ski on, smoother and more predictable. I ran them both 22-32 34&36, not a big difference in buoy count but definitely in the feel.
  2. @skikolb and everyone else. I never commented on his character, like I said I don't know him... I only know him as a pro skier. Joe skier doesn't care, actually they don't even know what 2@43 off is. Thats the straight truth, like it or not. As a fan of the sport and sport in general I don't think his record means a whole lot outside, say the few avid waterski nuts there are. Not taking away from the skiing, like I said it's no surprise, it was going to happen soon enough with how many 41s he's run. he is no doubt one of the best skiers there is. Yet, take a look and read around before jumping on one guys opinion. Not a whole lot out there about this record, at least not yet. Maybe I'm jumping the gun on that observation but I recall much bigger fan fare when this record was tied in the past., that includes from his sponsors. I hope I'm wrong, but really don't think so. I'll take the wake brothers every day or their skiing equivalent, but I'm men's 2 so likely in the minority and therein lies the biggest problem our sport has in general. Flame away, I was expecting it.! And once again great skiing nate smith, I hope you prove me wrong.
  3. Don't know him personally but other pros I do know and can't run 41 have flash and personality to go along with their performance. I'll take them to the bank 365 days before Nate. My 2 cents.
  4. only a matter of time I guess, and I'm not sure its surprising the lack of attention its getting here... Like watching him ski because he skis different, but it ends there... a 2x4 could sell the sport better.
  5. I notice it mostly when loading the line too early out of the buoy or turn in for the gates. A progressive lean is needed so you get that pendulum swing off the center point of the boats path, or thereabouts, but not before it. Pros seem to be able to load early, esspecially when the rope gets really short, but they maintain or build that load all the way through the middle or second wake. let the ski finish, dont pull in, and have a nice progressive lean building speed gradually through the wakes and into the preturn. hope that helps, it does for me.
  6. A lot of nate's gates are super close. I thought he may have missed then when watching his 41 pass live....
  7. I would also buy a few tickets. great idea. bet you'll get more $$$ at the end of the day too could put a stop-loss on it, run it through a site like crackstarter?
  8. I'll be right down, looking at flights right now lol. 46deg here and 30mph winds FML
  9. I was there in late october last year and no heater shirts necessary. best time to go is October, less humid, milder days, lots of sun.. water temp was in the 80s, just perfect.
  10. yep sproat lake is Vancouver Island.. I love these out there places to ski, and have skied on cowichan lake just south of sproat.. Its somewhat remote, but it actually never freezes & the island has the mildlest climate in Canada. nothing like Alaska or the BC interior :)
  11. Reason I moved to dbl boots ages ago was my rear foot would come out randomly. I never felt secure with the rtp and don't think I could go back, but the reps are also generic sized, which may be part of my issue. There are a lot of options for a rear boot now, some have a kicker and a heal cup which might be the best of both worlds.
  12. Time for new bindings. I had similar problems that were solved moving to heat moldable rs1 / strada bindings.
  13. @chef23 what other gloves have you been using and what size? I was always in Medium HO gloves but have been using small 41 tails for a few years now and love them, fit perfectly, but I want to try the Vice or ProLocks. wondering what size to go...... TIA
  14. why would you wear a helmet free climbing like that? LoL love a good rush but climbing without ropes is no worse than suicide.
  15. @wish most forums have some kind of ratings system tied to number of posts and/or the level of "support" $$$ you provided
  16. I got to see his trick run from the boat A few weeks ago and it was amazingly similar to that vid! Great skiing Andy!
  17. Make it related to skiing. The issue it seemed many were having was they are excellent skiers but don't have the "stars" but this isn't a tournament or a slalom Course site, it's the only and best waterski resource site on the web. Ratings should be based on post content and reputation on this site and nothing else, we are all equal here. People will be recognized for their contributions accordingly. I think it wouldd be fun if mapple signed up and hid moniker was something like "combo skier" Next step "slalom" "Course skier" "15offer" "Shortline skier" "Pro skier" etc. For tge actual pro Or open skiers feel free to make them "special" Regardless of points. Just because a guy or girl can run buoys doesnt make their opinion ir advice correct or their attitude on a website positive.
  18. Steve Cockeram (sp?) was said to have a special cheater handle he got away with using at least a few times. MB talked about it on his old webcast..
  19. I think its a byproduct of 2 things: A. keeping your arm straight and B. keeping the handle in close to your center of mass. you dont want to pull in and you want the rope to act as an extension of your belly button. This positioning of the handle allows the ski to complete its arc and maintain a tight line.
  20. Will Asher also incorporates this into his style... http://waterskimag.com/files/2012/09/will41.jpg

  22. their facebook page still shows the "boat lake" with a slalom course on it? get some members and keep the dream alive! privately owned land is always for sale! the lake I ski on has a cable setup in a corner (thankfully the lake shape permits dual use) and if anything its drawn more attention to the skiing and its let the owner lease off a part of the property so he doesn't have to find as many skiers. Vancouver ski club just recently went through something similar on a city owned ski lake (the pro tour site in Abbotsford, BC), and in the end I believe they were able to work out a shared arragement.
  23. so what occured to have boats replaced by cables?
