  1. So Cal, nuff said. However we could use some water at the Quarry.
  2. Go with the "Standard" size in Radar lingo on their size chart for the Vector/Lyric. I bought a Lyric ski and bindings for my wife and girls with the standard 7-11 boots (women's 8-12). Then Lyric bindings are the women's version of the Vector... a little softer and PINK. Fits all the girls from W7-10 nicely. Just for grins I rode the 65" pink flamingo Lyric and the boots fit me just fine. I'm on a 67 Vapor with size 10 Stradas. The 7-11 size with work for several seasons for your son.
  3. @Marco has it correct. should fit like a 2nd skin and it will still be the most comfortable and stretchy wetsuit you have ever worn. I got one for my wife at Christmas last year and she loved it.
  4. I'm 6'3 and 170 lbs. the large will be the best fit. I have size Large for both the BlackTec 2mm full suit and the 1MM Long sleeve shorty. So stretchy that you won't even know they are on. Tight fit gives the max water protection. Skied the full suit all last winter down to 50 degree water in absolute comfort. Gave my O'neill baggy away and never going back.
  5. My 2007 Malibu Response LXI had the same intermittent blank screen for a few months then permanently blank with all buttons still working. Was told it could be condensation or other moisture on the power wires to the display. Disconnected the wire harnesses and blew compressed air into the connectors, let air out some more and reconnected. Sometimes worked for a while, sometimes not. So I replaced the head unit for about $200 from PP with new larger display. A simple 15 minute DIY project. No problems after that but a few years later upgraded to Zero Off.
  6. In Baja it won't be 80 until 4am next december. Keep the ski in the shade and the ambient air temp will not hurt the ski unless you are actually experiencing spontaneous combustion at the moment. "Sometimes people just explode" from Repo Man... a classic! The autoclaves they use to cook the carbon skis are substantially warmer than 80:)
  7. I've used the MasterLine Master Curves for the past 4 or 5 years, always size Large and was very happy with them. I previously used liners but stopped a year ago. With the new ones I had to go up a size to Extra Large. A ski buddy had to move up to XXL from XL. I really like the changes they have made. Fingers are narrower and the wrist gauntlet extends farther up the wrist. Bought them direct from MasterLine and they exchanged them with no hassle when we originally ordered our usual size and had to upsize.

    Open Bow or not?

If you have kids, an open bow is often a requirement depending on the vote of the family CFO. If you only ski on private ski lakes you don't really need one, but 2 of the top 4 choices (MasterCraft and Malibu have mostly come with open bows for the last decade. At my vacation house we use the open bow in my 94 MC Prostar 205 all the time. At my private site we never use the open bow in my 2007 Malibu RLXi (with ZO upgrade). Some day the Malibu will retire to baja and the open bow will finally feel the love.
  9. @501Brandon I have the exact same boat, 2007 LXI Silver Edition, former Promo and upgraded from PP standard to Zero Off in June 2013. Great upgrade and then you don't need to get a new promo, you will basically have upgraded the boat to the 2011 LXI specs. However if you already have PP StarGazer with Z-Box all dialed in, the difference for the driver and skier should be negligible. I've driven and skied behind several Z-Box Nautiques and they feel very similar to ZO where as PP regular now feels a little soft and spongy to me, not bad just not my favorite anymore. If you have your heart set on a newer boat then I'd pass on the upgrade. If you really just want ZO then do the upgrade and keep the boat for 3 or 4 more years and enjoy the consistency and precision of the ZO pull. Assume $3k for ZO, new ECM chip (plug and play) and installation. Doug Moss did my conversion.
  10. Lusting in my heart for your boat! Great color selections very similar to my 1994 MC 205. Congrats!
  11. @tyler88 give me a call at 714-33zero-35zero zero. I'm a member at the Quarry and yes we are skiing. I can host you. Steve
  12. Lycra swim trainers or compression shorts if I'll be taking Camaro off between sets. Will dry in 30 minutes if on hanger. Or nothing.
  13. A front zip vest like the Eagle Platinum vest solves the contortions of the pullover vests. I've got over 50 sets on my BlackTec full suit plus Eagle Platinum front zip vest combo this winter (SoCal) with no struggle at all. Both from Robbie's. I like the way the Eagle is able to find my Ryan Gosling 6-pack under the Pillsbury Doughboy exterior without requiring sit-ups.
  14. 5 days of skiing in the last week. 3 snow days in Utah and 2 at the Quarry with 60+ water and 75+ air with no wind and sunshine. Edge change while still outbound and lower body moving thru the apex toward the centerline... repeat as necessary
  15. I like the idea and want some... but on lakes without a fuel dock, the 5 gallon gas can is the reserve currency.
  16. @jcross , yes I'm a member at the Quarry. The wind comes up in the afternoon in the summer. I ski 3 or 4 days a week, rarely on weekends, never have skied past 2:30. You don't want to live in Corona if you will be working in Irvine. Traffic for morning commutes are horrible coming into Orange County and are reversed in the afternoons. You could live in Yorba Linda and have an decent commute to work and 20 minutes to Quarry in morning. Look at an online map to get the layout. Switch to satellite view The Quarry is very near the intersection of the 91 freeway and the 15 freeway. The go to www.sigalert.com for real time traffic. Select traffic for Orange County. Look at it in mornings and evenings on weekdays and you'll get educated on where you don't want to live.
  17. The Irvine area has plenty of great places to live but none of them are on ski lakes. Canyon Lake is a great community an hour away but drive time commutes into Irvine will be substantially longer. The Quarry in Corona is 30 minutes from Irvine, opposite traffic, and generally has great conditions until 2pm. Less than a dozen members, all are very active in the summer and about half are active year round ( I skied 4 times this week and am heading out again this morning ). Weekends are actually the lightly used days. I'd be happy to host you @jcross when you come out to visit. You can PM me here or text/call my mobile at 714, three three zero, thirty-five hundred.
  18. I also had the pleasure to ski and drive @Chuck_Dickey 's awesome new ProStar yesterday at the Quarry. This boat is the real deal in design, fit and finish, driving and skiing. The thought that went into the design of the interior and ergonomics can best be appreciated in the boat and comparing with your current boat routine. It's like they took the long list of minor annoyances we all live with and solved the problems. Hard to reach stuff like drain plug, impeller, oil filter, rudder assembly, etc is all simple. The sight lines for the driver are unobscured and intuitive. The interface on the touch screen for Zero Off and other info is simplicity itself. If you have a smart phone you already know how to use it. The wakes are as good as has been reported at slower speeds and longer lines. I skied my usual opener of 15 off at 30 mph and the wakes were very soft and low. Dropped the speed and ran 28 mph and still very soft and low. Ran a couple more at 30 mph and then 32 mph. Definitely best wakes at these lower speeds that I've encountered. The boat was not sensitive to crew size either. My first set was just Chuck driving and the second set had Brad driving with Chuck in the observer seat... Felt no distortion or difference in either configuration. My usual boats at the Quarry are my 2007 Malibu RLXi with ZO and various 5 - 15 year old Nautiques with PP. I have skied behind the 200 and TXi and liked them as well. The MC 197 was not my favorite. The new ProStar is now my favorite!
  19. @Chuck_Dickey , does that mean you are taking delivery of your new boat today? We wants a picture... and a shrubery
  20. @Chuck_Dickey that boat looks hot! Can't wait to see it in person.
  21. Heading to the lake where I expect 65 air, 54 water, sunshine with no wind. I'll be in a Camaro Blacktec... Perfectly descriptive, no math required.
  22. Must be a family boat to gain access to the family checkbook. Must have a great wake for everyone or I'm not interested. My solution was a Mastercraft Prostar 205 purchased new in 1994 which we still have at the vacation lake house plus a Malibu 2007 Response LXI upgraded with ZO at the tournament lake.
  23. Hope you are reading this from home after a safe and fun day on the slopes. How did it go and where does it hurt.
  24. So Cal weather has been great lately. Today brought plenty of sunshine with 70 degree air, 54 water and no wind for 4 of us at The Quarry. Baller Index = good skiing and big smiles all around.
