  1. Well if maybe 90% of people are happy with a promo boat purchase then some unlucky 10% must be unhappy. You definitely fill that quota and it seems like it's not even your boat, sorry man. My promo purchase was a 2007 Malibu right after Nationals in Bakersfield in Sept 2007. Had about 200 hours, now has over 900.
  2. Previously always confirmed the fin was set to bone stock. Then found my happy place in boot position. Next change was 2-3 years later when new ski arrived. Then starting 1 year ago with the Radar 2016 Vapor, the knowledge base shared by so many others on this ski on BOS, and the publishing by @SkiJay of the Fin Whispering rosetta stone, I got comfortable changing things up. Just a few weeks ago I flipped from the long and shallow settings to the short and deep. Felt very similar but better in little ways.
  3. Just rolled over 100k views. Loving my 2016 Vapor Lithium.
  4. The rubber parts of a 4 or 5 year old ski boot failed after sitting with little use. Just like rubber windshield wiper blades generally don't last forever even when not used. I have 2012 Strada boots that get about 100 days of skiing per year... They are still in great shape. I leave the liners in when I get out of the boots, I think it saves wear and tear. I will happily take the offer of $175 each for the new 2017 Vapor boots. Seems like a more than fair offer to me for 5 year old boots.
  5. Buoy seeking Alien technology!!
  6. @skihart one of our club members just had ZO one puck system installed 2 weeks ago in his 2007 196 by the famous boat whisperer Doug Moss. Doug also had a similar issue and after research and tech support discovered an old Nautique Service Bulletin related to the wire harness installed in the 2007 196. Apparently 2 wires were installed incorrectly. It was a simple switch the wire connection that solved the problem. I will PM you Doug's contact info. He can probably point your neighbor in the right direction.
  7. I've skied my wife's Pink 65 inch Radar Lyric with small Lyric bindings and on a buddies 69 inch P6 with Extra Large Vector bindings. Both were comfortable and gave me an excellent connection with the ski. You'll be happy with either. I'm in Radar Strada boots, size 10, on my 67" 2016 Vapor.
  8. Hi @Mitzysman I bought the same setup for a buddy who hadn't skied in 40 years. The heel of the front binding should be 31 inches from the tail of the 69" P6. Remove rear binding. Measure from the stitching where the footbed and the heel upper are joined. Yes move the rear binding to as close to the rear of the front binding as fits comfortably. I tried the ski several times to see who it felt and it was very east to get up on and ride, even at slower speeds. No drag and very easy on the body so first get the bindings where they should be and then work on fixing your body position. Have fun!
  9. Went from long time Wileys double boots to Radar RS-1's in 2009. Transition was easy in a couple of sets on my old ski. 4 years later went up one size larger in 2013 Strada double boots. Try the Vapor boots on your old ski if you can for a couple of sets, then add in your Vapor ski and you will be rocking it. Ski buddy moved from Wileys to 2016 Vapor boots (take out stiffeners) and is loving them.
  10. @rodltg2 We had skied on glass at the Quarry and gone home by 11:30 this morning. Some of us will be there tomorrow at 9:30 am. PM me with your info if you want to ski on this trip or the next.
  11. You are either way off by 2 inches (29.875 is in the correct range) or you are a serial mis-typer. The confirmation you seek is on the Performance Ski and Surf website at THIS LINK. Just below the Sale Price is a link to the Fin Settings chart for 2015 Radar models. My first shot at the long link - panda avoidance technology so please fix and forgive if this breaks BOS and sends the earth spinning out of orbit.
  12. If you haven't already, take the ankle stiffeners out of the 2016 liners. They are not needed.

    Calipers

I recently helped a friend get his ski set up to "factory recommended settings. He had a new expensive high quality dial caliper. In the end it was his technique that produced the large variation from spec. As the Fin Whisperer @SkiJay says above reproducing the measurements consistently is what you need. My friend was hopeless on DFT until he tried my Slot Caliper but I showed him the Mapple method with a vertical ski and he was able to repeat his DFT with his dial caliper.
  14. I have the only ZO boat at the Quarry and most of our members toss the handle but occasional handle pop will send it flying. Just hasn't made it into the boat. No shock tube I'm embarrassed to say. Have to get one again.
  15. @TFisher easy transition from Wiley's to RS-1's for me 6 years ago. Updated to Strada's in 2013. My ski buddy just switched from Wiley's a month ago and no issue in the 2016 Vapors once he took the plastic lateral stiffeners out. Moderately tight lower laces and then easy pull on upper laces for me. No injuries.
  16. Mid to hi 80's all next week in So Cal at the Quarry. Skied today with 63 water and 70 air in Camero shorty and was totally comfy. I'll ski Monday and then head to Telluride for some for season appropriate skiing.
  17. I have the 2014 2.0 full, the 2015 3/2 full and the 2014 shorty 1.0. The 3/2 is available in "long" sizes so I gave it a try. It also has a higher neck with velcro closure which was most welcome when the water was 50 degrees a few weeks back. Don't notice any decrease in the amazing comfort and flexibility. Now with water at 65 I'm in the shorty.
  18. A nice relaxing cup of coffee on a Sunday morning has been spoiled. A very effective hook! Wake up and tell the BOS world.

    Gas Cans

I use Eagle Gas Cans. They are metal and cannot leak or tip over so no fumes. Pry out the brass mesh spark arrestor so you can use a 3/4 inch jiggler siphon hose and you've got 5 gallons in the tank in about a minute. Lowes carries them in So Cal for about $45 but Amazon has them for $35. About 15 bucks more than the crappy ones that leak. Mine's 5 years old and gets carried in the back of an SUV 3 times a week and never any fumes. Worth it.
  20. @Than_Bogan as a fellow member of the Super Scrawny Ankles crew I use ankles straps made from Velcro One-Wrap. Super thin single tape with hook on one side and loop on the other. A 12 foot roll is under 10 bucks at HD. Cut and wrap and you don't care if you loose them. Work great for me on my BlackTec. So thin I don't feel them inside my Radar boots.
  21. There is an amazing amount of stretch in the BlackTec 2.0 and they are very light. You won't suffocate @UWSkier. The size chart is not a good guide. Everyone I know sizes down. My friend who is 6'4" was 225 pounds when he got his XXL and is now 195. Still fits. His chest is probably still 46+. I'm 6'3" with a 42 chest and I'm in a Large. I skied in 49 degree water a few days ago in it. Connect with @waterskigirl at Robby's Ski Shop. The link is above on the top bar under ADVERTISERS. Fast shipping, easy exchanges and returns to help you get the right size. I
  22. I have 2 places but the one I ski at 3+ times a week costs $4300 per year in membership dues alone. No boat included. Expensive but only 30 minutes from my house in the OC in So Cal. Skied 10 days in December and already have January in the books. Raised the course yesterday in preparation for El Nino. Previously drove 270 miles round trip thru LA traffic to ski at Ironwood in Arvin 2 times a week. That was a great deal for So Cal at $1500 membership but the time and driving was killing me and my cars. My second place is a vacation home 4 hours away. $4000 per year for ground lease at The Secret Spot from old Waterski magazines. Do weekends there about once a month now.
  23. Green Bay kicks Detroit in he a**. Two Cal Roger's connect for a Hail Mary. By the way the IPad version looks great. Can't wait to try the Windows Phone.... Yeah right.
