  1. My Zbox has worked well on my 98 SN with the out of the box settings. The worst times I got were when I was using it in some serious wind and chop with my antisiphon valve gumming up the engine. Just goes to show that there are some scenarios good cruise control can't fix. Times at 30, 32, and 34 with a skier in the course are almost always within only .02 seconds variance of actual times. The people who have skied behind my boat seem as pleased with the pull as ever.
  2. Thanks, all. I have the stock settings. I was just wondering if anyone had run anything different that worked well. I know it's best to start from stock and tweak, which is what I am doing. But on past skis I have owned, there were always some crowd preferred settings. I know this ski wasn't the big seller that some of my past skis have been. Plus, on my last three skis, they have all seemed to come alive with boots forward, and DFT about 0.002 forward of stock. Don't ask me why.
  3. Anyone have some suggested settings handy. I'm running stock with the boots all the way forward. I found myself occasionally breaking at the waist on my off side, which hasn't happened much in the past couple of years.

  5. Almost 80 this past weekend. Water was in the law 60s. My 7 year old went kneeboarding in a shorty. I managed a slalom set in a hot top on Sunday. Opted for the wetsuit the two previous days. Still sore.

  7. Yeah, but now, I have said it. :-)
  8. Welll, four months later, and I finally rode the Vice. I really enjoyed it. Took it easy on the river. Pretty soft and forgiving feeling compared to the MPD, and that's saying something. Turned well. Not a rocket, but the MPD never felt unusually fast compared to some other skis. Will enjoy getting to know it better.
  9. Just remember. It's not the length. It's the girth.
  10. Replaced the impeller and FCC filter yesterday. Heading to the lake for a long weekend tomorrow. Supposed to see high 70s/low 80s this weekend!
  11. I paid a fiberglass guy to buff my boat to showroom shine. Then, I oiled the teak platform. I have, since, added some functional "Nautique" nonskid pads to the trailer fenders, replaced one seat skin, and upgraded the stereo. Everything else has been in the name of function or performance, even if it looks nice, too.
  12. Yes, the heads on the LT-1 are aluminum. From what I have seen, they tend to be pretty great motors. I recall reading some people having issues with the thermostats (I believe there are two). But typically, they just replaced them and went on. I also recall reading that you are not supposed to use RV antifreeze in the LT-1 because of the aluminum heads. The previous owner in this situation may have known this, been resistant to using regular ethylene glycol (automotive antifreeze) in the block, not gotten it drained properly, and ended up with a cracked block. As for overheating, lift the flaps on the rear of the boat and shine a flashlight up the tailpipes. Look for blistering inside the hoses. If they haven't been replaced, it can be a tell tale sign of an overheat.
  13. @BraceMaker, yes, I had a 93 205. Fantastic little open bow slalom boat. My father in law has a 98 205. There is a pretty marked difference between these two hulls, at least at the longer line lengths. Nothing at all wrong with the second generation 205s, but I think the first generation are much better. As for the 190, it is better still in the early to mid 90s. Again, the 205s are all fine boats. But I have had enough handle time behind both generations of them to form my preference. My preference, by the way, is a TSC Ski Nautique. :)
  14. @GAJ0004, my wife's uncle has a 93 Ski Ray OB. Pretty firm rooster tail, but, otherwise, a pretty reliable boat.
  15. @ShaneH, fair point. I haven't kept in touch with this guy to get that info. He was a MC dealer and avid skier at the time he did this. I guess I assumed it was on some sort of cooling system, i.e., raw water pump.
  16. I had a friend who was a MC dealer put an 09 or 08 MCX on a dyno. It's rated at 350 hp by indmar. It came back at 310. He speculated by the time you added all the other losses, exhaust tips, etc., you were looking at about 275 hp.
  17. We have about 3 versions of the G2 in the family. No frills. Just a heavy O'Brien ski with Advantage boots (at least originally). The boots may have been the best part of that ski.
  18. @jdarwin. Will accept that invite! Still laughing about "mean streets for a Shih tzu in a sweater." Laughing harder about Todd lamenting on the drive home about failing the opposite rotation docking test. He thanked me for keeping him off the ladder. As for my driving. I know I was about well off center line on my first pass (such is my dating life), but I will throw out the excuse that I had a crosswind and my lady parts were cold. ;) Until next time ....
  19. @rodltg2, are you telling me that tpttool doesn't know everything there is to know about the Challenger? /dooker disappointed
  20. @jdarwin, Good times today. Nice to have finally met you. Thanks for being a great host. I know our scores on the written exam reflect on your expertise. And thanks for taking the aggies into the SEC for us. We were tired of them. :)
  21. Thanks for the helpful suggestions. Although beer and BLL bear little resemblance to one another. Wish it were warmer.
  22. So I'm going to be at Cottonwood tomorrow for the boat driving course. I'm going to meet Joe for the first time. Any advice. /any serious advice will be disregarded. :)
  23. @h2odawg79, never a problem for me. I have let mine sit for a few days. Just rubbed my finger across it today and it is bone dry. After a dunk in the lake, I would have absolutely no concerns.
