@slow I couldn’t disagree more. This is not a public school or a Catholic church. This is waterskiing. You may end up the top ranked skier in usaws. You may be the last man standing.

@gjohnson We all love this sport and are against abuse. I may disagree with people but I do my best to respect their opinions and not get mad. The background check requirement for judges is stupid in my opinion. Coaches at live in ski schools? Maybe.

@gjohnson how does a background check stop women from being assaulted? We should ban suvs. The guy ran over people so why not have background checks to own an suv?

@Not_The_Pug I see that. Why can’t I judge? Background check for what criteria? What does the stupid crap they listed have to do with child molestation? @Horton I assume you are talking about the prostitution. I needed the money back then. Don’t judge me.

Does AWSA need to be more than 3 event? Collegiate? If not, a new organization makes sense. I will not pay for or allow someone to do a background check on me. I cannot believe it is coming to this. There will be a time where members of a new organization cannot ski Worlds, Pan Ams and maybe foreign events. If the organization takes off they will be allowed to participate. I read that list excluding felons, drug convictions, prostitution, etc. That seems a bit unAmerican and hypocritical. What about redemption. A lot of crimes used to be felonies. Drugs are legal in CA and CO. So you can currently use heroine but if you got caught doing it 5 years ago you are evil. Prostitution is legal in parts of Nevada. Carrying a concealed knife is a felony in CA. Drug addicts like Brett Favre cannot ski. I guess he cannot get better and beat addiction. This whole thing is ridiculous.

Or… Just do what @Horton does. Hoard them and refuse to let me borrow them. He is selfish.

I agree with the above improvements and would add that the 2021 trick wake is a bit better. I think the better tracking makes it a bit easier to get wide and the pull feels slightly better to me. They are all great but the 2021 is better in my opinion. @RyanNason have you ever driven the Mastercraft? Thoughts?

@BraceMaker I respect you and your opinion. I know very little about what went on in gymnastics. I will gripe about every stupid bureaucratic requirement they add.

Safesport is a joke. It didn’t help those gymnasts. The training is unnecessary and ladder training would be more beneficial. I believe proper footwear training should be required to prevent stubbed toes, rolled and broken ankles and fire ant bites.

Its not going to save one kid to require me to do it. Trust me I have had plenty of training and experience on the subject. How much irrelevant training is reasonable? People fall off ladders and are crippled and/or brain damaged daily. Should we have mandatory ladder/stair training for the judges towers?

I was thinking maybe they need to require a negative covid test from each participant within 48 of the tournament and a vaccine card. If it saves just one life…

@scoke hit the nail on the head. I believe this requirement will have a very negative impact on the organization. I thought we wanted more participation. How often are adults left alone with unsupervised minors in this sport? Just do one more thing and we will allow you to participate. Oh wait, now just one additional thing to participate in this very expensive time consuming sport. Pretty soon you may be able to get a medal just for jumping through the most hoops. I won’t quit because of this. I just don’t like it and think it’s completely unnecessary. Why not require a two hour class on the dangers of alcohol and boating/skiing?

@Roger I agree. I don’t understand why we couldn’t have trick mode with timing. Maybe a disadvantage to someone involved?

The Nautique wake is great for trick. I had not slalomed behind one for a while and was surprised by the 28 off 34 mph wake. I almost went out the front into 2 ball and I tripped over the whitewater turbulence on the pull out for the gates

Hey guys and gals can someone start a Nautique wake sucks at 28 and 32 thread? Horton doesnt appreciate the thread jack. Lets get back to this serious matter of a rule change so we can do whatever we want like in practice.

I can’t remember who but years ago he was messing with fins made of carbon or balsa. He reminded me of pinky and the brain. Well…pinky not the brain. The idea is good, the last guy whose name I can’t remember, not so good.

We had a usaws member murder his spouse. Should we be required to take domestic violence classes and anti-murder non-violent crisis intervention classes?

@The_MS you are missed. It was always super fun skiing with you and your wife.

I have been thinking a lot about all these bureaucratic problems with USAWS. It is too bad we cannot start AWSA over again by itself. I watched all the incredibly selfless and talented volunteers and officials at the Western Regionals and Nationals and was so impressed. These people are so amazing and we are lucky to have them in this sport. They worked from daybreak to way past dark each day for no pay while we talk about how the organization could be better. I know we need to talk about it but I want them to know I see a small portion of their hard work and dedication and I appreciate it. I was going to start with Jeff Surdej and name the workers I saw but I don’t want to leave anyone out. Jeff was still working his ass off when I left the site Thursday night at 10pm. He was running around when I arrived at 6am Friday. I am certain he didn’t sleep much. Thank you

“Nobody trusts police officers” I disagree. Who is your source on that? Everyone I talk to trusts and supports them. There are always a very small few who are bad and get weeded out.
