  1. Was there someone skiing in the video. I guess I'll have to watch it again, and again.
  2. Wow. That takes me back. I think a lot of those shots were used in ads when the tour events were broadcast on ESPN.  Yes there was waterskiing on TV? That shows how old I am.
  3. If your resting HR is around 60 or so the elevation that occurs just because you're at the lake getting ready to ski is really interesting. That's about a 40% increase over a resting rate of 60. At the point you are ready to drop in you're at double your resting rate. I know I feel the same rush but seeing the numbers provides an interesting feedback loop. I wonder if you work on controlling the pre-start rush will help or hurt your skiing. Its good to have adrenaline working for you but too much messes with the concentration.  I think that this is good stuff.
  4. Who do you make an appointment with? A dermatologist or GP?  Is there some type of specific procedure you request or do you just indicate that you spend a lot of time in the sun and want them to give you the once over?
  5. There is a lake in Olancha CA. Â 36 16 54.06N 118 00 03.75W
  6. Am I the only one who can't figure out how a 40 year old bachelor who lives with not one but two cats can hook up with a hot chick? That fact makes this whole story suspect in my mind,or at least the hot chick part.
  7. I've got more years of back issues of Water Ski Magazine than I would ever admit to in public. If you want some reading material for your club let me know and I'll send them your way. My wife will thank you for taking them out of our house.
  8. I always have problems seeing what's really happening on these videos as they are real time. I need to slow things down to get a real understanding of what the skiers are doing. Without slow motion I'm pretty lost. I mentioned this problem to my son and he solved my problem, at least for the You Tube videos. If you have TIVO you can use the Video on Demand feature. One of the menu choices under Video on Demand is You Tube. Click on You Tube and search for the video you want to watch. For example" April Coble Eller trying new fin settings". Now you can watch the video on your television and have the use of slow motion and pause.
  9. Read tru-jacks posts. I'm not sure the title of this thread should be the future of our sport or the future of tournament waterskiing.  I know, that due to all the issues regarding access to a course and time commitments to ski in a tournament, there are a lot of skiers who don't compete. But they all are skiers. This point was raised not only by tru-jack but seemed to be in Sully's post also. I'm only trying to point out that there is a difference between the sport and the tournament aspect of our sport.
  10. Just north of Corona at the junction of the 91 and 15 is the quarry. It is a private site and I believe a couple of regulars here are members. You need to be a guest of a member to ski the site. Down the 15 between Corona and San Diego is Lake Elsinore. There is a course at the south east end of the lake in the channel. Last time I checked it was managed by the local Mastercraft dealer, California Skier. The site is susceptible to wind but and some rollers from the lake but can ski pretty nice in the mornings.
  11. I ski all year. Usually about 1-2 trips/mo doing between 1-2 sets per trip in the course. Don't really try to push the limits. More to "score the month" and attempt to keep sharp on the mental keys I'm working on. Than, I think this does cut down on the "ramp up time" but I'm pretty delusional when it comes to justifying my time on the water.  Most years I spend about 1 weekend each month each winter free skiing on top of getting into the course.
  12. I'm with you Than, I'm glad I haven't been working on back arm pressure. I would have been "pulling" with the wrong limb.
  13. Data on the ATT phone will cost you a pretty penny. A couple of years ago I ran up a bill of almost $1K in a long weekend of international roaming so be careful. Can't speak for Sprint.
  14. This sounds like a group tailor made to go to Acapulco.
  15. MattP I usually wear a dry suit into March here in So Cal/Bakersfield. If the sun is out I might try the wetsuit. It is tough to justify anything but a dry suit if the combined air and water are 100 degrees or less. Once the spring weather starts to hold and the water gets into the mid 60 and days are into the 70's it is either shorty or the full suit. I have a difficult time wearing neoprene once we get into April, unless I'm skiing on an overcast day.
  16. I've had luck in working through elbow pain by religiously following a simple stretching exercise. Extend your arm out in front of you and put the palm up at a 90 degree angle. Like a traffic cop signaling a car to stop. Gently pull back on your fingers, stretching out the muscles in your forearms. Flex your wrist so your fingers are now pointed at the ground and again pull back on your fingers.
  17. MS. For a description of the headband I use look at my previous post earlier in this thread, it is a homemade version. TW. Regarding your experience with the rubbing alcohol, I've been there done that. It does get your attention. The doctor who treated me indicated that my inner ear looked "a bit angry". ÂÂ
  18. MS, I would stick with the headband. My experiences with my 2 ruptures was it was the initial blow that caused the rupture and the headband absorbs that blow without any problems. I've been skiing with a headband of one type or another for over 15 years without blowing out an ear drum. This is after having a blowout each year in the previous 2 years before the headbands. While I was healing up I used wax earplugs to keep the ear canal dry. These plugs were air and water tight but I was always concerned that in the event of a hard fall, that initial blow could hit the plugs, compacting the air in the ear canal and cause another rupture. My fear could be overblown but it sure seemed to be possible. Plus with the headband you get to have, what one of my buddies describes as a gay euro trash look while you're working behind the boat. Very stylish.
  19. I had similar experiences with the "commercial" headbands that are out there. My wife was kind enough to get some heavy duty velcro and some neoprene. She simply cut the neoprene into strips about 1 1/2 feet long and about 2 1/2 inches wide sewed the velcro onto the ends of the strips. The velcro is the width of the strip and about 3 inches long. I have used one of these for over a year and they stay on my head on probably 99% of my falls.
  20. My wife is about the same size and weight as yours and she loves her Radar Senate.
