  1. First a disclaimer, I'm nowhere near the skier a lot of guys on this site are. But that being said I feel that I have the strongest body position on my off side when I take the time on the turn to open my outside shoulder during the reach, let the ski finish the turn and come back under me and then focus on back arm pressure.
  2. Here is an exercise that seems to have cured me of the problem you describe: Hold your hand out straight with the palm out and the fingers up, like a cop stopping traffic. With the other hand pull your fingers back toward your body, then point your fingers towards the floor and pull back on the fingers again. Repeat with other hand.
  3. @crashman I was like you I skied with a wing and really didn't need it. So after being told time and time again to lose the wing I took it off and what a difference. The ski was tremendously faster and I spent the next week sleeping on my back because of the damage I did to my shoulders on the multiple out the fronts I took due to the increased speed of the ski, but in the long run it was the right move. I was working way too hard when I didn't really need the braking the wing gives. My $.02 is to take off the wing, but ski the next few sets real easy. You wont need to work so hard to get the same results and you will be less likely to end up out of control.
  4. @jefflyman Yes there has been a ton of discussion about water filled buoys and the effort to displace them vs air filled. You can do a search of the archives here or on waterskiforum.com. That other site had a ton of discussions complete with pictures a couple of years ago.
  5. one of these wins: Cutting slack worldwide. BOS-always on edge
  6. If you take Horton's suggestion of scotch don't use Tylenol PM. If you use enough of both of them, booze and Tylenol can cause issues with your internal organs . So I use Advil PM, same knockout power without the potential side-effects.
  7. I've been doing walking lunges down the hall at work http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=IqhlQfXUk7w I can't figure out the embed process.

    Boat Advice

Don't listen to all the squawking about open bows being unsafe. I've been driving open bows for almost 20 years both in the course and in open water. I've had as many as 2 200+ pound adults in the play pen of my SNOB numerous times without anyone falling out or getting injured, although that much weight does screw up the wakes quite a bit. This also means you pick up room for more than one passenger with the open bow. If you aren't careful you can take a roller over the front when you go back for a fallen skier but if the driver pays attention it is no problem at all. Often there is a bit of a scramble for the open bow on the way back to the dock as it is a great place to stretch out and get some sun. Be careful of the Malibu with the bench seat. Getting in the bow with a bimini up can be a real interesting experience. I have almost pitched forward on my head a couple of times, but I'm not the most coordinated person you'll ever meet.
  9. I have found that shoulder shrugs really help avoiding the soreness I used to get in my traps.
  10. I just got the results of a mole that was biopsied turns out it showed signs of severe atypia which, according to the dermatologist is a bad thing, especially as it is severe. Long story short, it was a good thing we caught when we did and there isn't a reason to panic but they do need to do some more work on the area where they removed the mole. I never would have set foot in the dermatologists office if it wasn't for this thread. Thanks #wish

  12. Yep. Lot's of upland and waterfowl. I've been known to shoot the ski lake in the morning for ducks and go around the balls once the fog lifts later that day.
  13. I subscribe, have forever. In fact I probably have most issues dating back to the mid-80's. I gotta clean out my closet.
  14. Yep, the all white one that was stiffer than the "regular" production skis. It is still working real well for me.
  15. @horton, I'm Phil Dandridge. You might remember that you sold me an RS1 a couple of years ago. Still skiing at Ironwood.
  16. @horton Bakersfield isn't that bad. Yesterday we had 60+ degree air and 50+ degree water. Way over the 100 degree rule and no fog. We didn't even need dry suits.
  17. Last I heard the folks at California Skier, the local Mastercraft dealer, at Lake Elsinore had "control" of the slalom course in the channel at the lake. It is a little over an hour from SD depending on traffic and where in SD you're coming from. You might get in touch with them.
  18. If I'm chasing bouys it's drive 2 hours to the lake ski 2-3 sets and drive the 2 hours back home. If I'm free skiing its a 4 hour drive to the river to ski, sun, visit with the neighbors and enjoy a few adult refreshments for 2-3 days before we make the 4 hour drive back home.
  19. Can cold weather damage fiberglass and gelcoat???
  20. I don't know what kind of boat you are skiing behind in the diagonal picture, but if it has an alternative to the tower, you will be much better off hooking the rope to a lower point. It will help you and the driver.
  21. Unfortunately every skier has different physical and style characteristics, so what works for one person won't necessarily work for you. So the best way to get the right ski is to try a few and buy what feels and performs the best.
  22. Isn't there a marine modification on the starters to prevent potential sparks?
  23. Rubbing alcohol after being in the water will prevent infections. I can't recommend anything once the infection gets started.
