  1. @mwetskier the advice to finish the turn keeping my shoulders level to the handle through pull really helped today along with hips ups! @AB on land what you describe makes sense it will be revisited as the above was a really quick way to make a difference. I like what your shared and the fellas on the dock seemed to as well. The 'left hip over right foot allows counter rotation to occur from the hips up making the arm fall where it needs to. Now, making it happen on the water.....Sunday!!!
  2. @AB with RFF position on ski, bring left hip over right front into the turn correct? On land it feels like my core is more countered this way.
  3. In this video you can see 1st one at the gate shot I was on back foot a little too much, 2nd one not as bad, also handle low was something I have switch to resulting in better angle through gates. First one a little better counter rotation but could be better at 1-3-5 balls on both. by 5 ball on both videos it all goes downhill with the should fully leading the charge. Primary focus has been hooking up to the handle following 1-3-5 turns already leaned/ leveraged. I have seen plenty of veterans hook up with all kinds of weird stuff going on but still be able to get right back to their properly stacked position, but one I hook up hunched with but back and shoulders leading the charge it is at this point impossible to reverse. I am skiing 32mph -15 and actually made the first pass ever trying -22 last week, however, fixing this hardwired glitch is goal #1. I have been in the course for 1 year now, and the past two months getting coaching every set via joining a private lake. With this one goal in mind who has some feedback I could use? I see many things wrong that could be commented on but this thread is to aid in fixing this ONE thing! Thanks! Don
  4. After a long time of getting 'your onside turn looks great, But your offside looks like a hunch back' feedback, I am finally getting it. What helped it click was yesterday one of the more veteran skiers at Sunspray lake said 'when you ski back to the handle hook up already leaned back into the leverage position. So 1) Coming off 2 hands on the handle later with an open chest following an efficient pull across the wake 2) Letting the ski finish the turn without dipping my shoulders and, 3) Hooking up in the proper lean. The more veteran guys at Sunspray can make mistakes and still correct it by getting back into position but because I never perfected the offside pull it is impossible for me to reverse once hunched. Not being patient and bring the handle to me rather than skiing to it causes me to contract down, flexed biceps and trunk as a perceived place a stability instead of leveraged. Once there I unlike the veterans cannot reverse it to the correct position. Two things resulted from the above 3 things happening; my back is not sore, and I hooked up with a much better offside leverage skiing 32mph making 4 passes in a row! The increased speed actually felt good. I want to dial it at that speed then start thinking about 34mph!!!!!! Thoughts? Don
  5. Fall is slowly approaching and it's not time to put on the shorty for those pm sessions. I am looking for a short sleeve top. Either a rash guard that actually will keep you warm, or a light wetsuit top. Suggestions? links? Thanks! Don
  6. I should have clarified I am Right FF and when replying maybe designate which you are and why it helps as Jim and others pointed out.
  7. Last night the more veteran skiers I am hanging with pointed out in my pre gate glide I was reaching toward the boat with the handle. They said it should be low and pointed up course. I tried it and it worked aiding with better angle through gares and early to 1 ball. Thought? Don
  8. Thanks guys. We bugged out today. Got to ski 3 sets at Sunspray and enjoy the Delta breeze at the in laws ranch in Oakdale. We are extremely blessed, no luck involved, just character to be built and trust in the one who brings the rain and the sun we all love!
  9. This pic was taken from our roof in Tuolumne co. Cali. The Rim fire is very close to our home and I had to chuckle tonight as my wife and I pack ready to bug out in case of evacuation. She grabs the dog food, the dog, clothes, water. I grab my ski and shorts and vest, ready to head out to the course in the am. Of course my Stratocaster and Les Paul guitars as well as the climbing gear got packed too. If you feel led please pray for the firefighters and that our little neck of the woods might be spared!
  10. I have used the Camaro impact vest for about a year. It floats ok, it a little sparse on the rib protection, but it light and comfy. However, it just began to separate a the seams. Looking into warranty. I am starting to inch the boat speed up in the course and am thinking of something with a little more protection and that floats you better. What are some suggestions out there?
  11. Looked great! What were you using to film? It looks like a pylon mounted set up, just curous which brand.
  12. Treat causes not symptoms. Everyone has tight hips flexor, hamstring, piriformis and calf muscles. ICE will Always have the same pysiological effect Every time. This is a video I did for friends hopefully it will help! @3:35 I go into the stretching part -done at the out patient PT clinic I work at.
  13. Thanks guys that helps! I agree AB the offside is horrible and I have been working on it for a while. I will try what you suggested. @Shane thanks good info!
  14. Thanks Al ,great points! I see the straight front leg onto my offside of sure. The thrust question of the thread was asking should I stay with the Senate C -more speed apropo and better stability in the turns, but not feeling the gate shot lean as with the Strada which provides more angle but get a bit too squirrelly out of my offside turn causing me to need to correct it and come in late down course.

  16. Uhttp://youtube.com/watch?v=qCWTZDotKVgUp to about 1:10 I am on the Radar senate C (returned to it today due to issues progressing with Strada). I noticed skiing the turns were smoother on my offside, however, I did not feel comfortable being as aggressive in the gate shot. Also the Senate being a wider ski is harder to keep on edge across the wake which gets in my head a little as those falls hurt. At 1:17 you can see in a very exaggerated way the 'skip' for lack of a better term the strada does coming out of my offside. It cause me that have a readjust my angle which puts me later into every ball. On the senate C you will see this does not occur. As a separate issue, I am simply not progressing on either ski getting into any sort of leverage out of my offside. Super frustrating. I just feel like my my shoulders are already forward and it's all I can do to hang on with zero chance of leaning back into proper form.
  17. At least you have water. We moved the slalom course again today due to the rapidly declining shoreline.
  18. @Brady the P6 is rated at 28-30 mph, then the Theory 30-32, Senate, Strada ect. @gregy thanks good info. I likely need to be patient with the SenateC due to it being more speed specific to where I'm at?
  19. I have had two of the worst days out in 3 months. I am stuck at -15 off and 31mph and up until 2 weeks ago could do all6 just about every pass. My offside leverage position is still lacking thus my not opting to increase boat speed yet. Last week I got the new US gear V type handle and have been using the radar Strada for the past 9 months. I understand the Strada is made for 34-36mph and that i am skiing at much lower speeds than it is designed for. I also own a Senate C and am thinking 32,33 or 34mph is no where in my immediate future, thus as Spock would say 'it is only logical' to ski on something designed for slower speeds. Thoughts? The biggest thing I notice with the strada is it whips hard at the turn which sounds cool but I almost Always have the re adjust my path due to what seems like an overturn,...which throws off any hope of getting back into a good leverage position. My hesitency to go back to the Senate C is the fatter ski plops through the wake harder and I have crashed on it hard before. Yes I know I shuld be on edge but I only get out once a week and am progressing slower than I would hope. Don
  20. Agreed. To me I have worked with many 'old school' PTs I would never seek advice from as well as many many up to date evidence based PT's who stand alone n this field for musculoskeletal knowledge and treatment. Same is true with MD's. People think MD after a name means they are going to continuing education courses and have the ability to assess musculoskeletal disorders. The main script we get from family Docs is 'back pain' , if they get bold it says 'low back pain'. Then you have orthopedic Docs who if sports trained Rock! It is up to the patient to be armed with information and seek those practitioners most knowledgeable to help them. And don't forget nurse practitioners who run Dr's offices are just nurses who went back to school for a few semesters and took a test with no internships and such. Not slamming anyone, just providing much needed info for those who want to know!
  21. AB , Agreed billing is a sticky issue in this economy. I cannot speak for your state or region. But to reiterate Kn is the study motion and does not include treatment. Anyone who has a career in this could not get into a PT program. For instance this year Loma Linda Univ had something like 700 applications and around 200 got in. That leaves you 500 Kn undergrad students with zero training in evaluation and treatment more than willing to treat you for cash pay. I could go on but will not, just trying to bring folks up to speed on the reality that *most* Physical therapy clinics are or should be treating patients from an evidence based perspective. Keep in mind there is level 1-5 evidence out there. I will let you do some homework to figure out which has the most validity to it. @ Rich your on the right track, the hip flexor is a major culprit to back pain. Look up 'tri plane stretching illiopsoas'!
  22. For perspective a kinesiologist is a bachelor level degree, Physical therapists are phd's these days. Chiros do not work in hospitals for a reason so, who do you want to get advice or treatment from? Yes a PT. 1# think cause versus symptom. Getting 'adjusted' treats a symptom (and we do many grade5 mobs too), but as AB pointed out core strength is key. Plus stretching hip flexors, hams piriformis ect also crucial. Thoracic spine mobs into extension key as well. And finally ICE -it works!!
