  1. @Horton, they are metal frames.... LOL I donate them to the water Gods a little to frequently. They have traditional frames now too. He is the majority shareholder but doesnt run day to day. www.gatorz.com I know they have some pro endorsers, indy car and some others. I can suggest that they consider a ski pro should be wearing them. That is about the extent of my influence.....
  2. Ok, got my new ski two weeks ago, FINALLY got to ride yesterday and going again tomorrow. I rode it out of the box with the foil at 7 degrees and two issues, struggled to get up with talon boots tight, loosened the upper part of the boots and temporarily fixed that but would like to be able to tighten up in the future so any tips on starting with the boots properly cinched would be appreciated.

The ski out of the box was uncooperative with the foil at 7, I took it off and it freed it up a bunch but its missing a bit of stability, wondering if I should put it back on at 0 or 1-2???? I was at first a bit disappointed but after taking the foil off it felt closer to the 2011 I have been riding with the slight added stability that connelly represents the 2012 has over the 2011 and so far I can feel that slight difference/improvement. So, any suggestions on what I should try tomorrow would be much appreciated!

  4. Yes I ski on mission. I am not likely to be around over the christmas break though. Technically you are supposed to pull a permit (SD lifeguards) to get on the course, they allow three boats and three alternates on any given day, the problem for you is you have to do it the week prior, but..... I can pretty much gaurantee you wont have much company if any that week, and if so they are not likely to hassle you for the permit if you explain the situation. Its self regulating, no one other than a fellow skier will ask to see it, you wont get a ticket or anything like that.

You can ski at low tide or at least lower tides, I cant say that I have been in there at dead low tide, but have not been denied use of the course due to water level. Conditions are an issue, I have pulled out without making a pass, but conditions change fairly quickly, so if you show up and its blown out, you can try hanging out for awhile. I cannot comment on the buoy placement, I dont ski well enough to consider that, but they seem to be in the same place to me everytime I go which has been weekly for the past few months.

I have just started to meet some fellow skiers down there and will say they take good care of the facility, nice dock and the course is in order.

In any case, let me know what dates you will be here and I will do whatever I can to help you find a tow.

And yes, you can see seals, and even dolphins inside the bay, someone claimed to have seen a bat ray but I havent seen one. I just dont look down. : )

  5. Who pays for gas to get to and from tourneys and who fuels the boat? This sounds like a gauranteed loss, but I assume the promo guys enjoy the hell out of having a spanking new tow boat every year or two. If they didn't they'd stop doing it.
  6. I agree with inboard, I would ask the salt water question. I would also ask for lots of detailed email pics. If I were near either one, as a fellow balla would gladly put eyes on the boat as a favor to you, maybe someone here can help with that. For what it is worth, we bought the 99' Sportster for 11500 18 months ago with 250 hours on it. We threw another 1500 at it and it is high and tight. I strongly disagree with comments about flimsy vinyl and switches. Keep looking, boat buying season has just begun.
  7. Yes the Response has a very low freeboard.

@swc5150, out of curiousity, what materials? I was just noticing that the vinyl on the older Bu is of very good quality and has held up well over the years, but conversely, the 06 has the very common problem of the vinyl discoloration when left covered in heat. Do you have an opinion about the glass layup or other components??? To be fair, I have only had a Malibu tow boat and the three that I see on a regular basis are all good boats. I think I know what you are trying to say, just wondered if you had a specific issue or ?????

I should also mention, we just yanked the rubber mat off of the 06 ski step, it was wearing out and we were tracking the material off of the step onto the interior/carpet.

  8. For a smurf...... I hate to be a cheap bastard, but I am, and I for one and happy to hear a report about a cheaper ski making the grade. I waited months to get a good enough deal on a ski to buy one. $1000 is a lot of money and usually does not include another 250-400 for binders.
  9. I am not sure what you are talking about in terms of fit and finish, our 99 Malibu sportster is in beautiful condition. I think it will come down to how it was cared for, but everything is intact as was everything in my 98 Response, I wouldn't put much stock in that comment.

The Malibu does have a "hard" table, much more so than the 06' I ski behind with the diamond 23 LSV but as mentioned, will help you to stay on edge through the wake. The great thing for us is that the Malibu has proven to be a great all around boat in that it is a pretty capable wakeboard boat. Without the wedge at 17 mph it puts up a nice wake and with the wedge down it puts up a pretty nice roller. It has the 310hp which is frankly brutally strong for the lightweight Sporster but probably just right for the heavier response. The Malibu is carbureted. Not a big deal but they do need to be serviced/rebuilt for ongoing reliability.

I dont have any experience with the Nautique, but have heard the slalom wake is better than the boo, but I will say as mentioned above, if you want a good compromise, we have been pleasantly surprised by the Malibu.

  10. Hey Kevin, I have a question, we were just talking about tow boat wakes and we wonder if any manufacturer has ever developed a spreadsheet from 28-36 mph that showed the actual size of the wake???? Height/width distance from transom??? Some kind of quantitative specs on the boats' wake attributes?
