  1. Greg seems to run the show. I did my first ever tournament this year and it was one of the BBT stops. It was cool seeing everyone get a chance to ski from age 6-70 something. I loved skiing behind three different new boats with great drivers at a great site in a friendly atmosphere. I would love to do more but I will definitely do one a year just to BS with other bouy heads. Greg has a great thing going.
  2. I was considering starting a ski equipment library for our ski club. We are on a private access lake and maybe more people would ski/board instead of tubing all the time if equipment we available to try. Perhaps donations from those who borrow equipment can help support purchase of bouys, USA Waterski memberships etc.
  3. I was using the big creek course last week. it was a mess when I arrived but I replace more than 1/2 the balls/ drivegates including the front and end gates. There was a noodle at ball five which I kept as a souvenir. The shoreline is a hard reflecting wall for waves which gives you about one pass before the water is trash...but the challenge was fun....sort of. If I were a local I would cut a bunch of the shoreline trees into the water to eat up some of the waves. I dont think cat tails can grow on that slope. I would love to try to drop a portable in at big Sycamore creek way up on the east end. Shore is lightly sloped and there is minimal population.
  4. I am at Norris right now in the big creek area. There is a course but I had to put some balls In to make it useable. The shoreline is pretty bad for backwash. Last year we stayed on the Far East end of the lake and saw 3-4 other boats all week. Big creek has a lot more traffic, but the setting in both places is great. The long stretches are nice for my wife to foot.
  5. Crotch rocket on water...pure stupidity
  6. Price range is a factor as a brand new ski at retail is a little steep at this point. I figured with the vapor coming out the market may flood with stradas dropping the price. I am also considering D3 quest or fusion. I just need to ride some of these to try them out.
  7. Can some of you guys chime in on the difference between the model years of the radar strada. I ski at 34 mph and run my 28 off pass around a third of the time. I am looking at taking the next step. Currently on a 07 Sixam that has had a ton of use... and abuse. thanks
  8. Yard Sale - often associated with a "out the front" fall. (see usaski1 above) where equipment is distributed to 2 or more places in the water
  9. Anyone can buy a tattoo, scars are earned!
  10. Chuck Norris just read this and round house kicked his computer creating a ball of spray of computer parts bigger than any slalom skier has ever produced.
  11. A new kid moved to the neighborhood who wants to learn the course. Any practice tips I can pass on to him to work on in open water or in the course when he is skiing the course with his dad (who does not ski the course) and I am not there to coach him. This kid seems to be a natural and shows no fear. I am actually trying to hold him back a little so he does not take a bad fall which could scare him out of the sport. thanks fatroll
  12. My buddy just received his "new to him" Radar Senate-C 69". He has vector bindings, weighs 235 pounds, but is now interested in trying the course. Any suggestions on binding placement for him as a starting point. I cannot find factory settings. Thanks Fatroll
  13. Thanks for the input. Any opinions on the Radar Theory or Senate models?
  14. I am interested in a new ski (or lightly used) as my '05 ish Sixam 69" is getting pretty beat up. I have historically skied at 230 lbs (give or take 10 pounds) at 34 mph. Most sets are either deep 28 off or 1-2 @ 32 off (practice PB 3 @ 35 off). I am now down to 215 ish with a goal of 205-210. Hopefully, the weight loss translates into running 32 off consistently. Any recommendations on a ski? Any thoughts on a 68" Strada (or senate/theory) or Obrien Elite? There are some on SIA. I am on a slight budget but will pay more for greater value. Thanks Fatroll
  15. 1300-1500 you can get bigger bags for bigger lifts, but the standard did the job nicely.
  16. about 1300, so it is pricey. For me, it was worth it. I currently keep my lift at another persons dock, and I may need to move the lift to another location in the future. Plus, the terrain is brutal. If you have and easy slope, or sand, it may not be worth it.
  17. This stays attached to the lift and you fill the bags to get the lift out in the fall. I had to move it a few feet out, it was a quick fill with a compressor and it was floating again.
  18. I put my lift in today and I used the Boat lift helper. If you pull yours every year, I cannot recommend it enough, especially if you are moving it over tough terrain. Check it out. http://boatlifthelper.com/
  19. @Wish Two weeks into dating, I had her driving the course. It was "Man overboard" at that point. I was done.
  20. Jeff Janzig from Aurora, Ohio. My wife and I have three boys (6, 4 ½, 3) and ski whenever we can. We live in a lake community where we have access to a slalom course. There are a number of guys in our ski club, so there is quite a line up on Saturday mornings trying to get sets in before the wakeboarders and tubers come out and trash the lake. Thank the Lord there are no jet skis allowed on the lake!!! I am a veterinarian, so my time off during the week allows me some ski time when everyone else is working. We also ski at my parents place in western PA and vacation on Lake Norris in TN. Over ten years ago, I weighed in over 310 lbs. I was able to run the course at 15 off @ 30 mph and land back rolls on the kneeboard (thus Fatroll), but I was pretty limited. I was able to drop over 100 lbs which kickstarted my love of the slalom course. While I yoyo in weight, my personal best is 3@35 off at 34 mph a few years ago. I skied consistently through 28 off last summer. I have never skied in a tournament, but may try one this summer just to meet some people in the sport. My wife and I will also barefoot if we can get the water. She can foot long line, while I will only hang onto the bar. I am excited to send her down to KSO’s women’s week this fall. When the water is trashed, we will Kneeboard, wakeboard and ride a pair of trick skis. Our boys have been riding the kneeboard and skimmer. Last summer, my two older boys were able to ski on the boom. Can’t wait to see what they do this year. I will NEVER buy them a tube.
  21. Thank you everyone for your input. Much of this, like everything in slalom, seems to be personal preference. I tend to palm the handle. My hope is that with gloves like this it can reduce the beatings my hands take. Any concerns with letting go or releasing the handle , such as stress on elbows, shoulders or back? Thanks Fatroll
  22. Any opinions on the pro lock (masterline) gloves for slalom skiing?
  23. Our elf has been working hard on his raleys and his deep water start
