  1. Oh man I wasn't checking BOS while I was out with just my iphone, but I wish I had seen it to know there was a tourney going on, that would have been really cool. I did indeed pick it up. I plan to go out saturday and I'll post some pics. Thanks everybody.
  2. Awesome, thanks again everybody. I'll be heading out in the morning. Here's to hoping for some good luck.
  3. Super cool. Thanks tons again to everybody for all the input. I really appreciate it and I'm always open for more.
  4. Thanks kpickett for the personal recommendation. The guy selling it is actually a member here on BOS, I think he just doesn't hang out here much. I actually got the reference for the boat from another baller named, I think Baja, so that makes two guys on here that know the boat/person in person and are vouching for it. Obviously, both might be a little biased as they are his friends and strangers to me, but still, it's good to know that at least somebody has seen it in person and isn't here sending me a PM that says "dude, that boat has been breaking down once a week, that's why he's selling it." kpickett, have you skied this one as well, or do you just see it on the lake? At least at bakersfield elevation, does the 5.7 proski TBI feel powerful enough to you like TWB says? Apparently MC was using that same engine in these years as well? Thanks much for the input TWB. From a former owner of the same motor in almost the same boat, that's good to hear. Thanks everybody, feel free to keep the opinions rolling, I leave first thing thursday morning.
  5. Thanks everybody. I think I'm leaning toward the SNOB right now, again, we'll see when I get down there. What about that engine in the SNOB? Obviously, everybody loves the GT40, nobody talks about this proski 5.7. I'm at 4500 feet. Am I going to be turtle slow? Or just not insanely fast like the GT40? SWC above says it's solid, so I assume it at least has a good track record for reliability?
  6. Thanks again everybody. Feel free to keep them coming, I really appreciate the input. Scot, my real name is Scott as well. I do indeed ski Utah Lake, I think I'm right around #38 on the wait list right now. I live in North Lehi like you, so I figure with that info, you'll be able to easily look up my last name on the wait list. You actually gave me a tow on course #1 about a year ago behind your 08 Lxi and I thought the wake was very nice at full length and 15 off at 32 and 30 mph. I assume your 00 RLX was comparable? Certainly I wouldn't plan on either boat being real great in a windy Powell or UL, so hopefully I can avoid that scenario as often as possible. Anybody agree with inboardfix? Obviously he's putting out some fairly serious allegations on the bu, and if multiples of witnesses agree, that's something I should look at very seriously. Thanks Scott
  7. Hi Guys, Thanks tons for the responses. It looks like they are both PCM EFI engines. What is the difference between this engine and the GT-40 engine. Size? Performance? Reliability?
  8. Alright everybody, I'm in Utah, driving to SoCal next weekend to buy one of these two boats. Obviously I will test drive both and hopefully even test-ski both, but I figured it would also be nice to get the opinions of the folks on here. I ski the course, longline or 15 off, usually in the range of 30-32 mph. That is the primary purpose of this boat. My goal is that after the first summer of owning this boat, I'll consistently run 15 off at 34 mph. I do, however, also wakeboard and wakeskate, however, usually I'm still only in 4 feet of water even when boarding and skating, so a big wake is certainly not expected, but I do like it to be shaped correctly at least. I usually board at 22 mph and skate at 21 mph. I do occasionally go to Lake Powell or something and get deep water where I would actually put down the wedge on the RLX and probably even load a few sacks into either boat. Both boats don't have towers, but do have fly-high poles for my boarding purposes. So, put yourself in my shoes, which one do you buy and why? http://www.ski-it-again.com/php/skiitagain.php?topic=Search&category=Comp_Boat&postid=19616 http://www.boattrader.com/listing/1998-Malibu-Responce-Lx--Open-Bow-340442
  9. Pulling tubes from a tower or fly high pole is a risky proposition. If a human is holding on to the other end, then I know the rope isn't going to put more than let's say 400 pounds of pressure (If I have my big strong brother in law riding) on the rope. However, with tubes, where they are attached permanently, the tower or pole could see a lot more pressure than that if the rider or the driver does something stupid/wrong. That being said, I have done it back in the day behind another dude's boat and is indeed way better as your air is bigger, smoother, etc. Do you need a fly-high for surfing?
  10. My dad just got a tower on his stern drive. He is 67 and has been struggling the last few years to get up. We hooked his rope to the tower and he said he was amazed at how much easier it was to get up. He's not course skiing, or even skiing aggressively for that matter, so for him it works great as his whole goal is to get up, turn in and out of the wake a few times, and be done. Now we're hoping to have the same result with my sister who has also had trouble getting up ever since she had kids and put on a few pounds. Once again, she's not an aggressive or a course skier. I would never hook it to the top when I'm skiing as I have to imagine it would kill my leverage, not to mention what it would do to the driver and his tracking.

So do we get to see videos of you skiing behind your new boat?
  12. Thanks tons guys. I really appreciate the input. I'll keep you updated on how it goes.
  13. Hi Everybody, I need a little help while boat shopping. I was looking at a Response LX today and got to looking under it and saw that the middle fin kind of pokes out to the right. So here are my insanely naive questions. They're all supposed to be straight down right? Is this an expensive fix? Thanks for any input. I would also love to hear anything that any of you might say on other things I should look for. Scott
  14. I think the driving range is the best analogy. Almost 10 years ago I was convinced that I had essentially mastered skiing and it was becoming boring, and I was ready to pretty much be done with it. Then I found the ski course, and I realized that I suck at skiing, and it completely re-ignited my love for skiing now that I have measurable results. All great golfers still hit at the range sometimes to work on this or that, but in the end, what the sport is all about is what happens on the course, not the open range. And yes, that guy talking trash is an idiot, just ignore him.
  15. Hi Gregy, Thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately, even at 19k, that price would be somewhere right around correct and fair, but probably not a deal worth driving to Texas for. We currently have in the area 3 response LX boats that are a little older, a little more used, and they're right in that price range. The bonus to these is that they have towers, and since I am a part time wakeboarder and skater, that actually matters to me. Don't get me wrong, I do think that 19k for an 03 in good condition with low hours is a good deal, I'm not saying your friends should go lower or anything, I think their price is very fair and they'll sell it soon, but for now there are enough of those local, that I would probably just take a little higher price in order to not have to drive to texas and to have a tower. http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad=21802397&cat=147&lpid=&search=malibu http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad=21771006&cat=147&lpid=&search=malibu http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad=21744538&cat=147&lpid=&search=malibu
  16. That makes sense if boats in your particular region are going for more. Suddenly I'm glad to live in Utah :)
  17. Thanks Gregy, I saw that one and called him late last night to buy it. It sounds like within minutes he already has buyers lined up to take it. Where I'm in SLC, I can't just pop on over today, so I'm guessing somebody will beat me to that one. I'm going to offer him some more money if he'll hold on to it for two days while I drive down there. If he won't wait 2 days for a bunch of extra money, then my intuition tells me that there is some sneaky reason he is in such a hurry to get rid of it anyway. We'll see what happens today.
  18. Harddock, where are you located? Is your boat open bow? I'm in Utah and currently eyeing a 97 SNOB with 780 hours for 13.5, so I would definitely agree that your price seems a bit high, but if you're way back east the point would be moot for me.
  19. Well judging by your screen name I'm guessing that the boat b that you usually ski behind is a SN 206. I actually feel like I'm in very much a similar position. I'm not a fantastic skier by any means, my personal best is 32 mph at full line length on my buddies 96 PS 205. It's interesting because I really feel (especially after riding behind a boat with a better ski wake this weekend) that some of my most significant progress on my skiing would come behind a boat with a very minimal wake. After that, once I had learned how to do it just right, then I could go back to the 96 PS 205 and slide right through that wake. So as I'm now shopping for a boat of my own so that I can quit mooching off my buddy all the time, I'm going to put my theory to the test and try to get a really supreme skiing boat. Then maybe I'll have a verdict for you next year at this time.
  20. Ha ha! Yeah, I'm glad you're running up on a good deal on that RLX up there. I kind of hi-jacked your thread here, so I really didn't want to hi-jack your boat in the process. Hopefully we'll both have a great setup before wintertime.
  21. Hi Baja, I did send him an email on SIA. I think we're in touch now, thanks much for the heads up.
  22. Oh wow. So now we're really coming to the question of whether or not I can get the wife to go for a step over open bow instead of a walk-thru. Do you know what date he is coming up to SLC?
  23. Wow!!! Why in the world would anybody do that intentionally to their boat? Crazy.
  24. Cool, thanks guys. I'm in Utah, so I would guess that would be considered a "cooler" climate. Thanks
  25. Ha ha!! I'm suddenly reminding myself of this old SNL skit series. Da Bears!! http://www.evtv1.com/player.aspx?itemnum=6203
