  1. Is the 75 feet rope used in course skiing anymore? I think I have read that up to type 1973 or so every skier has to start on 75 feet rope first pass. After this the 60feet rope was the standad. The Swede Lasse Björk seems to have had some impact on this rule change. I have asked around a bit in Sweden and the generic opinion is 16 m is a short line. My 2 cents For me a short line is a bit shorter than the original line. The original line is nowdays 18,25m (I have never seen anybody skied the course with 23 m) so 16 m is my understanding of a short line. But I can also understand those who use the boie as reference and use the distance to the boie as reference. My brain do not grasp the other reference points since they seems to relate to skills? My goal is to run 22 off at 34 before I am to old to improve. (I will then call me a short line skier) It maybe does not seem impressive but I can not really dream of any other levels. (Been skiing for three sesons and am now getting close at 29)
  2. Status report First, thanks for answering the poll. It is a wide spread of votes for many line lenghts. My interpretation is that the majority votes for one shortening from the original 60 feet rope.
  3. Would it be ok to ask all contributiors here and everybody else that has an opinin to put in your definition in the poll in order to get the most commonly used definition more visible? Sorry for asking. Thanks Peter
  4. PLease add YOUR definition of shortline skier? (you meet a fellow for the first time in life and he tells you that he is a shortline skier. What is your interpretation?) A skier that are capable of complete any score at xx off:
  5. An advice from a beginer for what it is worth. A high end ski will for sure give you ton of space to grow into. But it is not intended for your current skills. It is much less forgiving and will most likely slow down your progress. My advice will be to go for the right ski at your current level and change a few times when you reach the level when the ski start to become the limiting factor. Low and mid end skis like Radar Theory and Senate are cheap. By the time you need the Strada there are more modern versions available. My experiences are not so much from water skiing but from working as a snow ski instructor. 95% of my pupiles would ski better, advance faster and have more fun on less advanced skis.
  6. @skikolb. Eric Sorry but I have never skied at LaPoint. Have never water skied in US. Only in Sweden and twice in Italy. Currently no plans to come over but that might change =0) Enjoying BoS from Sweden. (Trying to learn as much as possible)
  7. Memory lane Alfredo Mendoza and Olympic skis. I have actually tried them as teenager once or so.
  8. Congrats to the P6. What bindings did you chose? Great that you plan and get coaching. Consider if you prefere to stay with a few coaches or get more opinions? I Personally prefere a few coaches that follow my progress a bit closer. I hope they are better to identify what is most important just now. Please keep us posted?
  9. Just a thought (maybe stupied)? Would it be safer if the sequence plate had the release function? Both feets released at the same time but still was keept together?
  10. I am also sort of beginer. Hence I dare to tell my short story. My coach told me to only shadow the bois. After a few days i was allowed to try to take no 6. The 5 and 6 and so on. Focus on stacked posision and rythm and timing. Always make six turns. Best luck Peter
  11. I dont get it. Looking down the rope direct after the turn? How will this improve hips fw? I think i ski better if i look fw in the skis direction. I become more centeted and get better load on back arm. I do not shift looking at the bois until the edge change.
  12. Sorry for high jac the thread with same question about the Radar Vector boot. Are they more or less safe then Strada or Reflex? @adam I am really sorry to read about yor injury. Thanks for sharing with us. I really hope for a fast recovery! Best luck with you rehab training. I have learned the hard way that rehab should be 100% If one only invest 95% it will take substansial longer time to get back. Brgds Peter
  13. As a beginer I prefere to practice and not compete. However, I accidently did one race. The rules was: Six pass practice before lunch. Best score was the baseline (mine was 6@26,7mph) Start with your baseline an improve from here. Max six passes on the base line. Entry gate was optional. Largest improvment wins. (I got 1/2@30. My first 28 and first ever try at 30. It took me 25 sets to repete next 28). Maybe avrage of your best score per event could be used as base line? Hence your base line can go sligetly up and down during seson. What is a mulligan?
  14. @danspence 14 and 20 cm to short. Is this a new definiton of 'extra short line' skier? ;-)
  15. @broussard Do you know what part of the rope wear out with a swirvel pylon?
  16. @ed_johnson Oboy. That makes about 500 sets per year and rope. Given that I can not pull half as hard and only get type 50 sets at my club my rope will last type 20 years ;0) And we do not get enough sun to be a real problem either. Some one will most likely cut it wit the propeller prior to worn out.
  17. My ski gear Spare parts and tools Towel Band aid Tiger Balsam A sisser to cut wetsutes upon axidents Contact lenses Keys to the club not to forget them Sometimes something to the kids (or ski pal) at the club
  18. @skiep Off Topic. Isnt there a pylon with a knob that can swirvle / free rotate? Would save ropes.
  19. This was not a question of produce ropes with poor quality. Of course a private made rope must have splices with the same quality as commercial ropes. I have yet not seen a poor commercial high quality ski rope but have seen and experience dangerus poor normal quality sailing ropes splices in sail racing. Personally I will never again allow me to go up in rig with a commercial wire to rope splice. Have seen a few that did break at type 10% of official break load. So back to the question: - Some folks build skis. Want to know if anybody make ropes now days. - Like working with my hands and with ropes. - Know I can make safe ropes. - In the 70ties some skiers used to make ropes so the competence and experience is out there some where. Most likely I will not do it but I am intrested in the subject.
  20. Does anybody purchase rope on bulk and make your own ropes? I did repair a broken rope by adding new rope with the same knot as the shortening loop. Then I just moved the other shortenings. Did not take so long. When training I do not really need more than 1 or 2 shortenings. Is this just stupied or is there enough $ to save? Assume one like to do the job.... Where can one buy rope in bulk? Any other thoughts?
  21. Congrats!? I am not there yet. Will never be with current setup. Radar is way to long to read during wake crossings. ;0) Really want to ski now. To much wind at our lake to ski last week.
  22. Open cell review. I took my new suite for an openwater swim today, just recreanational swimming. Mostly backstroke / frog swim. Quite windy and rather large waves. Temp 63F, 45 minutes, 0.8 miles. Extremely flexible and comfortable. A bit wide at ankels and hands. Took a long time for the water to reach all body spots. Some air around the chest was still there after 20 minutes. I was a bit chilly when I was done but that was expected from a 2mm suite. Camaro are really great suites. Will be on my top list for next purchase. Unfortunately ther is no real need for shorties in Sweden. ;0)
  23. @waterskigirl and all After some off line discussions waterskigirl advice me to take a size L in Open Cell. I just got the suite an hour ago so I changed during our informal family dinner and turned up to desert in the wetsuit. That created a few laughs. I have not tested in the water yet but I must say that it seems to fit me really nice. Maybe a few cm to long arms/legs. Camaro should maybe consider to revise their size chart (see my measures above), May I mention that I got really nice support from waterskigirl! Thank you!
  24. @gregy. Thanks for pointing this out for us 15off-ers. It seems like the key to progress is not to loose the speed across the wakes. Here is a split screen with two skiers at 15 off 26,7mph. One beginner and one experienced short line skier. One can clearly see the difference over the wakes.
  25. I have the same problem. Hmmmmm even a bit worse. Currently trainig at 27/28. I flaten out the ski already a few meters prior to the wake. Recently it has become a little bit better. I try to look cross course imidiately after the turn when adding the body lean. Keep looking this direction through the wakes. Shift and look at the boie direct after the second wake. But should one have a low position or a high position during the pull? I am quite low and I see some pros running really low and some high.
