  1. @scoke let me know exactly what page. Are you referring to the column on rankings page that shows if you are qualified or something specific on a tourney page?
  2. @sheskis7 thats more than last year at this time. And we are not hosting this event to make money. If you think covid’s gonna be better in September or October keep dreaming. Those that feel safe to go will go. Those that do not feel safe should not go. Nationals will not be big this year. It is what it is. Do you have a better plan considering the amount of money and time that goes into planning the event that Bennett’s has already done?
  3. Thanks to everyone for their support, we will be webcasting Nationals!!!!
  4. $700 to go, lets make this happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. @klindy I've seen a number of handicaps formats but I think the one we use at green lightening is the best. Of course I am biased to it but we have experimented with this annually since 1998 and the event has grown to a 400 pull tournament year after year and every year a different skill level seems to win. You do percentages below your average and plus minus after. So if average is 100 and you get 98 instead of the typical -2 a lot of events do you do 98% , this way if a skier averages 3 buoys and they get 2 the 98% person wins b/c its harder to get 98 when you average 100 than 2 when you average 3. but then after your average you go to a plus minus instead of % this way if a beginner averages 3 and gets 4 its not 133% and therefore impossoble for a 100 buoy skiers to win. I have a spreadsheet we've used that calculates it all, of course its set up for team skiing and head to head match ups but the formulas could be used by anyone for any type of similar handicap but I do think this method is great if you have a good mix of skill levels you want to put on the same playing field.
  6. @Jody_Seal your region can host regionals and states whenever it wants, earlier might work in south, it would not in others such as midwest where we are having our first tournament of the year this weekend, we just don't have enough warm weekends to spread them out, but I wish we could. I agree a labor day nationals would be great, it would truly be the end of the season, just wish it would not effect the juniors and schools. @RichardDoane pretty big to be honest, not impossible but requires a rework of bylaws and voting seats etc. I would ask what is the objective in doing so, I would imagine simply less travel for regionals? The whole skipping regionals to nationals is something I've always been torn on, I think regionals is a tremendous event for the athletes and officials, yes its a lot of travel and expense but its a tremendous stepping stone in so many ways for all our members b/c if its not mandatory it will 100% go away and not be worth the effort of those that host it. The other scary side is how big do we want nationals, if skipping regionals would increase national attendance, how many more pulls can we handle, we already are going to be at 7 full days next year, Kansas was overbooked on 3 lakes for 5 days. I've always been on your side with rankings vs competition, I think rankings as it is now has caused more harm than good, we need to make it a point system, based on competing against others and perhaps even having to go to states to qualify for regionals and regionals to qualify for nationals, then I think the restructure above works better perhaps b/c we can have sectionals maybe. other sports have the advantage of numbers to support tighter areas, so there is a balance there, even the biggest of regions is only 200-300 competitors and with so many division there is barely competition even then so i think along with an entire change to competition we have to re-look at having 34 divisions :) or god forbid we compete by ability like every other sport in America :). If we want to increase participation we have to stop making 15 off ski against 39 off just b/c they are the same age!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. We are over half way there, thanks for the support, keep them coming, $10-$20 is all it takes
  8. https://www.gofundme.com/f/webcast-2020-goode-nationals We are fundraising to have a professional webcast of the 2020 GOODE Nationals by the Waterski Broadcasting Company . We need to raise $10k, lets see what we can raise to make the webcast happen. IF WE DO NOT HIT OUR GOAL OF $10,000 OR THE WEBCAST DOES NOT TAKE PLACE ALL FUNDS WILL BE REFUNDED IN FULL. 5 Days Announcers in English Multi-angle views Replays and slow motion Water Camera Telemetry Graphics We are planning on running two separate webcasts. We will have about 3 cameras per lake plus extra ones hopefully. Lake one will have Dockside, Boat, and Shoreline Cameras that will all be wired to one computer that will stream to Youtube while lake 2 has Dockside, Boat, and Shoreline cameras running to another computer that will stream on Youtube. We will have two announcers. One will announce one lake for that one stream while another one will announce the other lake for the other stream. They will both be seated at the brand new announcer desk we just built with a camera filming them that will go on both streams. https://www.gofundme.com/f/webcast-2020-goode-nationals

  10. Hosting an AWSA grassroots event in 2020? AWSA will fund it. That’s right. We need to get more people on the water and with less tournaments this year, Wednesday night ski leagues and ski for funs are a great opportunity to get on the water and get more people without access to lakes on the water. To encourage more participation by clubs this year, AWSA will cover your grassroots sanction fee. Plus, to encourage first time attendees, AWSA will also cover the guest pass for any first time grassroot participants. Simply sanction and host your event as normal, then after your event, go to this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfXlFoF2YjPWUk6qCHxXFnMChvdX9c6HO-rl7hgFbMb_uXURQ/viewform to request your reimbursement…it’s that simple.
  11. The American Water Ski Association is hosting a contest for National Collegiate Water Ski Association teams that attend AWSA events this summer. The top-three collegiate teams that have the most skiers participate in AWSA events from now until the end of August will win a cash prize. $300 for first, $200 for second, and $100 for third. Rules are simple. We will look at how many skiers on your team recorded a score in the fall of 2019 at an NCWSA sanctioned event. We will then look at those same skiers and compare to see if they also have an AWSA score this summer until end of August 2020. One point will be awarded for each score achieved. Only one point per sanctioned event, but the same skier can score multiple points for multiple events: 2 points for state, 5 for Regionals and 10 for Nationals!
  12. Would you pay $10 to watch a real deal webcast of 2020 GOODE Nationals by the broadcasting company? We need 1000 pay per view people :) But seriously would you?
  13. @sancho_jumper I get your point, does suck for new products to come out as far as economics and having to buy, sort of like new i-phones and new skis, maybe not the same b/c you get to practice on your old ski before a tourney but we have to credit masterline for trying to improve the sport and ropes. But honestly I would say don't worry about it, personally I don't see that much difference in ropes and unless you run 38-39 I'm not sure its a big difference. But im also a guy who doesnt touch my fin and I just go and ski no, I don't get into the technical side all that much, a ropes a rope to me :)
  14. @wski1831 @MattP yes, everyone is getting full credit for this years events as officials, details and announcement coming very soon.
  15. @Horton I have to give you crap.....you never go to Nationals anyways :) IDK I'm always so torn on this skip Regionals thing. I think Regionals is a very important part of our sport, its a building block for officials and skiers and a great weekend of what makes our sport what it is, seeing friends and family and competing. It is also is important in the maintenance of record level ski sites. In the midwest we have 3 sites that alternate, that income every 3 years assures these sites to continue to have world class facilities and conditions, if Regionals went away those sites would not worry about having a 2nd lake or buying a new jump, etc. BUT we are talking 2020 and COVID so this presents a new issue and not our normal "skip regionals" discussion. This might be one of those answers that does not fit all regions, in the west travel is a much bigger issue than other regions. Honestly, outside of screwing over the 5 regional host who are looking forward to hosting and have put work into planning on hosting, this is a good year to do away with the 5 regionals. Maybe we let each region decide what works best for them or maybe we meet half way and have semi regionals, each region hosts 2 events roughly on each ends of the region, then we have 10 semi regionals, this way travel is drive-able and the host will still have a decent turnout. IDK, surveys are showing a decent turnout for Nationals with 400 going, 150 most likely and 100 50/50. Numbers will be down this year but I am not sure if they will be down significantly. I think everyone is looking forward to going to these events after being locked up all spring. Th really issue is going to be when one of the regionals host simply can not host their event due to state orders or gatherings, then we have an issue :) Anyways lets see where Nationals will be after this morning and keep monitoring regionals and see if a move needs to be made.
  16. @Not_The_Pug travers and Bennett’s pretty similar bids. 2 lakes. Travers 5 days. Bennett’s 4 days and tourney ends on Sunday. @dave2ball the split bid is different sites different times. Under 25 nats August regular dates for 3 days then over 25 nationals at corys September 16-20
  17. Travers, Bennett’s and Boskus/Cory combo bid for a senior and junior nationals separate. We have 3 officially. Board will vote Saturday. Reach out to your directors and Evp with input.
  18. @MrJones tournament sanctions are opening May 18th, announcement coming tmrw, of course it will be up to local guidelines as far as being able to host an event. Right now everything looks on par to have a regionals/nationals. We have a meeting tonight with all regionals host, and bids for securing a Nationals site are due Sunday at which time the board will decide on a bid. My hope is by end of month at latest we have this all hashed out as far as what, where, when and how. But I would say right now 90% chance everything goes on as expected, just not at west palm.
  19. What entry fee would people pay for a virtual nationals? Also jump is the tough one, how do you judge that one from a central spot in the country.
  20. @ALPJr yes to some extent, I think we could use some features of the APP possibly to pull it off, but I'm thinking more of a true live streamed nationals from 20 sites across the nation, no officials needed at each one as a central place would judges them all, we would literally have a 5 day running order like Nationals, we need to survey members soon and see how people are feeling about traveling, if a virtual national will get us 1000 participants and a regular nationals only 250, its something to really think about this year. We could even live stream the end course, oh boy @horton would have a field day with that :)
