  1. This project is very interesting to me as an owner of an old tug. My 94 Centurion Falcon (owned since day one) cost me $14,500. I have redone the interior at the tune of $3,500 and added PP Zbox. I am sure that at some point soon it will need a heart transplant (still runs strong now at 2600+ hrs) and seeing what others are doing is very helpful. Currently I would stroke the 350 and upgrade intake and heads. Not sure if I would convert to EFI. I am guessing the value of my boat right around $8,000. You could get into a good older tug and upgrade as needed for I think easily under $15,000.
  2. Ran my gopro a ton on the front of my ski. No issues at all. Floaty back door and white anti clip release is all I use. Did not use the white anti clip release for a while and it fell off once. No big deal as it is easily found. I would not tether as that will keep it attached and banging on the ski which could injure both ski and gopro.
  3. I was skiing in our local course years ago and hit a muskrat. Yeah OTF big time. I was uninjured but freaked out and about walked/ran on water back to the boat. We had to go get the beast out of the middle of the course with a rather large gapping slice right through the middle.
  4. I don't carry my own stuff that is what wife/kids are for LOL. I have and OGIO bag that has a bottom vented section for wetsuit or jacket and another vented for gloves and sun shirt. and other packets for other gear
  5. I was a snow ski instructor for 20 years and received tips from about 50% of my clients. That is after they paid what I felt was highway robbery of $125 per hour of instruction. Of that $125 I would make about $23. They are greatly appreciated and I tip all those types of individuals.
  6. You need to gain acceleration in both instances from the point of direction change. The difference is that you have the acceleration of gravity to aid you in the swing example and you do not have that advantage or aid in the course. That is what makes gaining angle so crucial to success
  7. Was it a little plastic hook like thing that attached to the front of the ski and the rope hooked into it and then came off as the ski flattened out?
  8. Hours are the first gauge. I am pushing 3000 hours and it runs great. It has lost a little power over 23 years but still fires up every time and can hold 36 in a course. Now I will admit to being the odd man out on this as my boat looks as good as it did 23 years ago. If I were looking at boats I would get one with higher hours that was in better shape than lower hours. I would then have something to negotiate with as well
  9. If you have an eye hook in the back you will not notice a difference in that and a pylon in an I/O imho. Just ski and improve and keep an eye out for your tug. BTW what are you looking for in regards to price and year?
  10. Bill your package just delivered. I hope you enjoy it.
  11. Mine is right on the tip of the ski
  12. Played around with the GoPro while at Lake Powell last week. Attached it to the front of my ski. Angle is a little close and skiing was tough having broken two ribs two days earlier (damn wakeboards). Could not push it at all and getting up was not at all fun. Thought I would share the angle.
  13. Are you looking for a manual timer/fall button unit? I have one sitting in my office right now in a box with all my old PP parts (display, smart timer, manual/fall button, master module
  14. Having the same boat but a 94 I can say that is not normal any zigzagging. It will pull a bit when a skier is deep into the course and mine pulls right when I let go. I would check on getting the correct rudder.
  15. If every time you walk by your boat you reach in your wallet and throw in $20 you will be prepared for the cost of ownership. I use boat bling products now as I found the forum deal on them. They have worked very good on the inside. Get a couple of synthetic chamiox or shamwows and wipe it down after every use and do a good polish and wax once a year.
  16. Quick question on the surging. I ask because I used to think it was my return spring also. What I found out is that mine would surge only when I went back to PU a fallen skier. I had to learn to disengage the system by taking the throttle all the way back into neutral. Otherwise it would surge trying to get back up to speed or hit the RPM target.
  17. @scotchipman Utah is a horrible place. 1/2 hour from the greatest snow on earth 1/2 to be skiing in the Utah Waterski Club course (while the water lasts anyway). I would not recommend it to anyone. NOT
  18. I upgraded to Zbox from classic and it was a great move. So much easier for my wife to operate. That being said I have everything in a box that came out. Display, module, switch, magnet sensor, and all wiring just sitting in the box that the new one came in. Still on boat is the servo and the paddle wheel.
  19. I upgraded to stargazer with Zbox last year and it is great. I much like EastTxSkier have and old tug and as far as anyone being able to use it I will say it is super simple. If my wife is driving I just put it in GPS mode and go no fuss no muss.
  20. There are none that reside on Lake Powell. Most years we go we either take a portable or there is one that someone has brought and set up.
  21. I learned to ski behind a Rayson Craft. My uncle still owns it and drives it. He knows that if it is ever for sale I will buy it on the spot. Not only left hand drive but also has a foot pedal for the gas.
  22. I am original owner of a 20 year old boat and have not replaced starter. alternator, or fuel pump. I have changed the cap and rotor and plug wires and were told that there was not a marine version of those. Does anyone know if that is true or not, as I no likey burning boat?
  23. Very nice. He looks ready for trainers now.
  24. Marcus Brown came and showed the V-Type to the Utah Waterski Club meeting during our boat show. The interesting part to me was the new binding and how it attaches along the center line instead of the huge plate which most bindings have. It has mounting holes for the outside plate mounted bindings but the newer ones look pretty slick. It will be one of the skis I try this year. Marcus Joked that it might be the ski that gets @scotchipman to ski something other than a Goode.
