  1. I'll be the outlier. I would not pay for a continuous multi-day live streaming. If it was indexed in a way that in the evening I could watch my skiers of choice or it was a 60-90 minute showing of the top skiers per division, I might pay. Price is not the issue, I likely wouldn't watch a free live stream, too much time in front of the TV/computer for too little skiing.
  2. @CRVJax - I tried a few on a shop when I bought my O'neil Slasher. The deciding factor for me was that of the single buckle vests I tried on, none of them had any velcro or other mechanism to keep the zipper up. I have had vests un-zip in the past and it results in a less than ideal situation. The zippers also felt a little more free to move, they made me nervous. I felt the O'Neil was a little more secure when fully zipped.
  3. For rural areas I like Weather Underground. They use personal weather stations and build a spot forecast for that station. I have a $150 station at my house that uploads to them, they build a spot forecast for that station. Many others essentially triangulate between major weather stations to predict your location, not bad in a city or near and airport. Bad if your are in hilly or mountainous terrain far from an airport. I use Windy for wind information. It was recommended to me by a co-worker who recently retired as a wildland fire behavior analyst (he predicted fire spread for a living, wind is very important in that world).
  4. How far are you packing your trick ski? I often slip the middle buckle into the receiving end a few clicks but don't latch it and slip my fingers under the buckle. Or carry it under my arm like a snowboard. I have walked the length of our lake carrying it by the release mechanism without issue.
  5. @keithh2oskier - It sounds to me like you need to adjust the individual segments as @skiboyny is suggesting. Keep in mind that the speed the boat enters one segment is 100% determined by the speed it exits the previous segment. So, if your 1 ball time is off, your 3 ball time will be off and so on. In my experience if 1 is hot, 1-3 will be slow, then after 3 it tries to make up time and surges. With a skier in tow, get your 1 ball times dialed, then 2 & 3, then 4, 5, & 6. I had really good luck emailing with PP to get my boat straightened out. If you recently upgraded I would check the tach settings as well. My boat had an older SG setup when I bought it, it skied great. When I upgraded to 9.2 we had some issues and found I had to change the tach setting. That helped a lot.
  6. @mcsd1992 - I believe the blackcuff Reflex is a little stiffer forward/backward but maybe a bit softer side to side than my older SuperShell. I have not tried the new version with the carbon-u. If I were in the market right now I would look into the fit of the boot and determine which boots fit my foot well, then figure which one I could get the best deal on. I can't tell a difference between the BlackCuff and SuperShell with heal cup in regard to how they are fitted to the plate. If they are setup up properly there should not be any play in either. The only reason I would prefer a heal cup on my trick ski is because I often put the ski back on in the water. I leave the release set pretty loose while working on toes, I am not very good and release a lot. Trying to center the boot between the two plastic screws while in head deep water without a vest is a challenge.
  7. My organization runs several hundred GPS units for mapping, data location, and point to point navigation. The biggest issue is accuracy. I am currently sitting in my home office and when I look at my 'Blue Dot' on Google Maps it shows me in the garage, about 20 feet away. I believe the GPS accuracy of your phone will be at best +/-10 meters, if you get a recreation grade GPS to tie via bluetooth to your phone it will be about 2-3 meters. I use a 'Bad Elf GPS Pro' for work, tied to phone via BlueTooth which gives me about 2.5 meter accuracy, the GPS unit runs about $250. A Trimble R1 will get you 50cm accuracy but will run you about $2100. I use a ESRI ArcGIS product to synthesis spatial data and export a map to AVENZA PDF maps with pins, it is pretty darn simple, but the ESRI software is not cheap (starts at about $500, though a consultant could likely whip up the shapefile and maps for a small price). AVENZA is cheap/free and works great. In my experience the GPS accuracy is the biggest concern.
  8. I believe the release mechanism for the HO, Edge, Reflex, and Goode-G-Flex are all pretty much the same. I have a Reflex BlackCuff on my trick and a SuperShell on my slalom. I really like the heal cup of the SuperShell setup, the nylon screws on the BlackCuff drive me nuts. Also, those two boots fit very different. I find the Supershell fits my foot very well while the BlackCuff does not. Regarding wear and tear, this will be my 4th (maybe 3rd, but I think 4th) season on my SuperShell, skiing about 6-8 sets a week for 6-7 months and 2-3 sets a week for the remainder of the year. My boot does show some wear but not enough to change how it functions.
  9. I believe you can demo the HO hardshell, not sure on price, but it is listed on their Demo page. You could also check out Ski-It-Again, that is where I picked up my first trick Reflex setup. Be sure to test the release before you ski it. There are videos of a dock test. I like to sit on the dock with my ski in the water and give the tip of the ski a quick and hard tug to test the release. I make a point to do this every few sets as well to make sure things are still functioning properly. When my last binding setup failed catastrophically going across the wake (boot separated from plate) I was in a bind and bought my Reflex. For me it was a very large purchase, I was terrified about making a mistake. It took me a few rides to get comfortable and get the binding placement figured out. A few years later I am thrilled with it.
  10. Based upon what @Ski-Dad mentioned about adjusting mid course times I would aim for the 3-Event. I had to do a fair bit of background setting adjustment when I upgraded to V9.? in my '98. Out of the box you got a slightly fast 1 ball, super slow 1-3, then it hammered the throttle about the time you were turning 3. It was really frustrating to ski. It is easy to adjust as long as you can adjust it.
  11. If you were to run the barrier on top of the joists would you be worried about trapping moisture between the barrier and the wood? If the floor is exposed to wave action I would have to think the barrier would eventually end up with a leak or two. If there was not venting (joists, then barrier, then plywood) I would have to think it would be prone to rot, if there was an air gap (barrier, joists, then plywood) you may get moisture above the barrier but it likely would stay away from floor and allow for venting/drying. Most other house barriers are protected on both sides (sheathing then barrier then roof or siding). I am in no way a builder or engineer, but i live in a very wet environment and have dealt with water intrusion issues in structures and vehicles, those with airflow resulted in minor issues, those without resulted in major issues.
  12. @UWSkier - I agree and am in a similar spot. All of my ski partners are 60+ and don't live with me. Trying to figure out how to properly social distance and then disinfect the boat between drivers isn't worth it. My biggest fear is in a few weeks finding out I was infected and contagious and my 65+yo ski buddy picked it up from me. Odds would be much more in my favor than my older ski partners. I see a moral liability issue that I am not willing to take on. @ski6jones - how are you sanitizing the boat between drivers?
  13. @Oldjeep - how much extra length do you have? My teles are 185 and alpine are 188. I have to take the bindings of my teles to get both pair in my ST 2, both skis are about 105 underfoot, the width in the 2 is a problem.
  14. @oldjeep - you must not have very long skis. I can't fit my alpine or tele skis in a 3 it's too short... I bought a 2 and my slalom fits with a sleeve but it is a little tight. Looking at the dimension difference between 1 and 2, I don't think I would be happy with the 1. If they added 10cm in length to the 3 I would have been all over it. The only reason I bought a 2 instead of a 3 was to fit snow skis, if it wasn't for those, I would have bought the 3. Although if it wasn't for the snow skis I likely would have looked at a soft one-event roller bag.
  15. @GSchmid - the way I understand it the system will try to bring things back to zero, so, if you have a slow 1-ball time it will hammer you in the next segment as it tries to catch up, then often over shoots. I checked the other day and I am running 02, 55, and ?? (I forgot already) and getting within +/-0.02. I find it interesting that similar boats with similar motor are running such different numbers. Again, PP was super helpful for me, quick responses with lots of detail. They are the ones who highlighted to me how each segment impacts the next.
  16. I can't wait to install. I'm liking the data visualization, I like how you combined score, wind, and water temp on one chart.
  17. @adamhcaldwell - I am a research scientist, data analysis is my thing, I can get carried away... My thought is to collect enough data to understand what variable may be having an effect on my skiing. Just to know I skied well is one thing, to understand why I skied well (or not) is another. Understanding why takes data.
  18. @cacman - if you are looking at staying on private land and a typical private site ramp you would probably be fine. I wouldn't drive down the highway, or even a county road though. I've moved boats around on dirt with a few guys, at best we were one horsepower.
  19. I have towed 14,000lb trailers coast to coast and many other large things. I don't mind towing big or weird things. I WILL NOT tow my 98 CC with my 2018 Outback. My CC is about 2,300lbs dry add another 1,000lbs for trailer. Add fuel, oil, gear, etc. and you will likely be close to 4,000lbs or more. I believe my Outback is rated to about 2,500lbs.
  20. @disland - I ski behind about 4 different boats a week, each with a different speed control (PP Classic, StarGazer, StarGazer w/ ZBox, and ZO). For me, understanding if I am constantly skiing better/worse behind a given boat could help the way I take my sets behind that boat. I have changed my desired ZO setting exactly once.
  21. @Gschmid - I am running something like 02, 60, ? and am close in my 98 with GT40. If I used your numbers at 34mph my 1-ball time would likely be real fast, at 10 I was -0.03. How is your baseline speed calibration? When my baselines were off my settings were getting real weird, after adjusting the tach settings and baseline speed it settled out. With factory settings I was within about +/- 0.03 with the occasional 0.04, now I am near even. I am also sorry to hear about your experience with PP support, they were super helpful for me. I was able to get my '98 skiable in about an hour and then dialed in after a week, maybe 2. I also had to tune down my KX to get a feel similar to ski partners SN 200.
  22. I was toying with the idea of something similar last season, but just a spread sheet with data entry. I think there could be value. My problem was that by the time I got home from the lake I lost motivation... I was recently involved in developing some large scale data collection apps. Our process was to start at the end use and work backwards. In my experience when you start with data and end with the question you can never answer the question you are asking. I like to start with the question and design my data collection to answer the question. Some things I think would be neat to see in graphical form: Sets over time (annual total, total per month/week, etc.) How much did I ski and when? Average and max performance over time. When is my peak in the season in terms of total potential and average performance? How does setup alter max and average performance? Pulling weather data based upon GPS location would be cool, allow for air temp or wind comparisons. Maybe add an entry for water temp? Fields for boat and driver could be interesting. As a complete data nerd (I'm a research scientist) I would be interested to have a way to export a .csv file with all of my data for further analysis your stats program of choice.
  23. @igkya - I was able to get mine to settle down nicely. I had been running SG for a few years with no trouble, turns out I had to switch from normal to inverted tach settings, then some minor tweaking and it is working well. Prior to testing the tach setting I was getting frustrated.
  24. I have a black cuff on my trick and supershell on my slalom, I wanted to try the black cuff for slalom and briefly looked at dropping the black cuff boot into the supershell plate. The heel of the boots is different and the odd fit was enough for me to not feel comfortable trying it. I believe the heel cup prevented the black cuff boot from sitting flat on the plate, making me think the release mechanism might not function properly. I do plan to try swapping plates this summer to try out both boots on my slalom.
  25. @Bill22 - When I updated to 9.2 and installed Z-box .I had to do a fair bit of tuning and tweaking in my 98 CC. Without the tweaking it would run OK, often a slightly hot (-0.02) at 1-ball then slow for 2 and 3, then catch up 3-4. Gate to 3-ball was close enough and skied fine, it was going from +0.02 at 3-ball to -0.04 at 4 ball that was hard to deal with. Start with testing the normal or inverted tach settings, then be sure to calibrate baseline, then test baseline speeds. If the tach or baseline are out of whack, no amount of tweaking will get you where you need to be.
