bobuna
I know a lot of people have said that there is duty on skis if bringing them into Canada. I just wanted to confirm that there is definitely duty on American Made skis as well??? Â It wouldn't make sense that there would be for skis made in the USA (China I understand) but I've been told duty does apply. Can anyone confirm this?? Baller Ed_Obermeier Posted March 8, 2011 Baller Share Posted March 8, 2011 Why not just put the new ski in a ski bag and put it in the trunk with the rest of the luggage? Anyone asks you've had it awhile and took it across to the US with you. Works for portable slalom courses...Ed
SM
Brent is my main Mule. He's always bringing skis across the border without issue.

Baller thager Posted March 8, 2011 Baller Share Posted March 8, 2011 Some Canadian skiers in my younger years wore new full length 2/3 mm wetsuits under their 3 piece suits to get through customs going home in July! You could put a blank in your pants and tell them you've got a broken leg. Ski I mean!

Baller Bulldog Posted March 8, 2011 Baller Share Posted March 8, 2011 There is no duty on a north american made product. Both the truck and boat that I imported in 2007 were made in the USA and I did not pay a single Canadian cent in duty importing them across the border, same for the smaller gear that was way cheaper in Florida. If there is no serial # on the product it is very difficult for Canadian customs to prove where it was purchased...just saying wink wink..... "Do Better..." Baller dleenhouts Posted March 8, 2011 Baller Share Posted March 8, 2011 I'll gladly drive some gear across Lake Ontario for the northeastern Canadians. No border patrol in the small bays that I know of.
Baller Killer Posted March 8, 2011 Baller Share Posted March 8, 2011 dleenhouts:  I live less than 1mi from the big Lake in T.O.  there is a massive beach right by my house I can meet you there, I will simply kiteboard out to meet you.  will have to wait a few weeks though unless you drive an icebreaker? Tuney
There isn't a "duty" on US Manufactured goods. You will still pay PST dependent on your province and GST.
Baller dleenhouts Posted March 9, 2011 Baller Share Posted March 9, 2011 I've still got a good foot of ice around my dock, might be more like July 4th before I can put the boat in. Maybe I'll bring your gear in a kayak.
SM
If you cross the border into Canada into a province other than your own, then you only get charged GST as one province does not collect another province's PST.
Baller Bulldog Posted March 9, 2011 Baller Share Posted March 9, 2011 Only 5% GST when crossing in Alberta (that is only if you are over your customs limit or if it is a major purchase). "Do Better..."
