This is Palazzi Pond (aka Ultra Pond) in Springfield, NH. Site of several tournaments between

1974 and 1979. Before the Corps of Engineers became concerned about wakes vs. the dam.

Beware of those guys.

Was a borrow pit area that had previously been a swampy stream area, and where a reported

3 million cubic yards were extracted for Interstate 89. Which is in the picture, and some 250

feet above the pond. At one time in the winter, we would pack out the hill and straight-run

it, achieving about 65 mph, before a nasty compression.

Several high-level skiers skied there, including Mike Suyderhoud, Kris LaPoint, and Mark Crone.

All of them at one time pursuing a World Slalom Record when it was not a full pass at 35 off.

Early measurements circa 1971 via auto odometer looked like it was only about 1200 ft. Later,

we went out on the ice in the winter and found it to be around 1900 feet on the angle. Some

years of asking/pleading/begging, it was first allowed for skiing by the owner in late 1973.

Several oldtime Eastern skiers will surely remember the events there.

The yellow line is about 1900 feet.

Now becoming somewhat of a housing development, but very slowly so.

@makeall6, dye it and throw some Amurs in. Our water is so clear right now, you can read your graphics on your ski if it is under you at the end. We had an algae problem, and the dye and carp have done a great job cleaning it up. We now are worried about hitting one of the 3 foot Amurs though, as they have gotten huge.

Birds can drop fish eggs, can't they? Wink wink.

Blue dye can be a gradual process. We dump 15 gallons of concentrate in at one time, so very noticeable. Our owners think it keeps the lake healthy. :)
