Baller Ham_Wallace Posted February 4, 2015 Baller Posted February 4, 2015 Ideas on how to (1) Make 3 event water skiing exciting to participate in and to watch (2) Make the events multi round and still speed them up drastically, and (3) Incorporate more skiers! Bring it on!
Baller Ham_Wallace Posted February 4, 2015 Author Baller Posted February 4, 2015 This discussion is where the rubber meets the road! We need ideas for the committee to watch. Whats wrong with 2 pass, 2 boats, head 2 head slalom? you could ski 2 skiers, passes each in 2 minutes, then the next two and so on. 50 skiers could ski their first round in 50 minutes. that would be 3 rounds in 1 1/2 hours. Hello! Jumping 2 boats, 2 jumps per skier, head 2 head, elimination. Tricks: (Boat draw, no choice) 2 boats, tricking from each end, 20 sec. passes, head 2 head, elimination. (no ski changes, no rope/handle changes. You lose twice in any event, you are out. Skiers would ski multiple days during the week. No Senior judges until the finals. With enough skiers and families on site for a week, manufacturers and vendors would rent booth space and stick around all week! OH Yeah! OPEN skis all events last of the day. The Open Finals would be last event of the tournamenT! $.02
Baller Moskier3ev Posted February 4, 2015 Baller Posted February 4, 2015 Ham, Some great Ideas. We have jumped both directions in a tournament. (for bonus points in our team event) If you do not ride out jump 2 NO JUMP 3 FOR YOU!! I think 4 pass limit in slalom. Top 10 go to a Final. Tricks eliminate timing...most tricks down and back allow 1 fall. You fall going down they pick you up keep tricking the same direction. Just trying to think outside the box. Just throwing ideas out. Baller_ Wish Posted February 5, 2015 Baller_ Posted February 5, 2015 Slalom falls with people trying to swim out of the path of the next skier seems to take a lot of time. And most fall.
Baller ToddL Posted February 5, 2015 Baller Posted February 5, 2015 @Wish, couldn't the same be said about Trick fails? Jump? Just sayin'
Baller ToddL Posted February 5, 2015 Baller Posted February 5, 2015 Big divisions have Prelims, head2head finals, open on Sat.

Baller_ Wish Posted February 5, 2015 Baller_ Posted February 5, 2015 @ToddL agree for jump and trick falls. And shark tank.
Baller OTF Posted February 5, 2015 Baller Posted February 5, 2015 Maybe we could make everyone a winner and give everyone a trophy?
Baller OTF Posted February 5, 2015 Baller Posted February 5, 2015 @horton instead of through a ring of fire how about if you fall on a jump you have to stay in the location you landed while the rest of the competitors try to clear you? Should up spectator participation
Baller_ Wish Posted February 5, 2015 Baller_ Posted February 5, 2015 Same with slalom....skier stays where he/she falls. Rest of the pack skis around them. Last one on the water has a minefield to clear. I stay to watch that.
Baller OTF Posted February 5, 2015 Baller Posted February 5, 2015 Yeah and each new slalom skier starts at the rope length that the last person fell at.
Tyler_R Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Ski flying for record distance... Every tournament... Get an insurance company to sponsor big prize money
Tyler_R Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 In all seriousness @Ham_Wallace is on to something.
Baller BG1 Posted February 5, 2015 Baller Posted February 5, 2015 I would be much more likely to go to Ham’s Nationals.
Baller Ham_Wallace Posted February 5, 2015 Author Baller Posted February 5, 2015 It would be fun and fast! You'd ski multi times. MS is right! I hate winter!
Baller adkh2oskier Posted February 5, 2015 Baller Posted February 5, 2015 For Slalom how about some type of automatic rope winder with no stopping. rope would automatically go to the next loop as you exit the gates and just keep going into your next pass, no let up, way more aerobic. Of course it would only work at sites big enough to spin at each end, and everyone would have to deal w backwash from previous passes, but conditions would be basically equal for all skiers. Sure would make for some quick rounds though.
Baller_ Wish Posted February 5, 2015 Baller_ Posted February 5, 2015 What's the current average wait time at tournaments at each end when dropped? 1mn? 2mn?
Baller disland Posted February 5, 2015 Baller Posted February 5, 2015 Problem statement- we need more money We keep focusing on the revenue line and not the expense line The most simple solution that I dont hear discussed enough is getting rid of officials. (meaning hotel rooms) Use the competitors, reduce to class C, except for open and masters. Big savings!!!!!!!!
Baller elr Posted February 5, 2015 Baller Posted February 5, 2015 Well B3 tricks at Nationals this year was in the 3 minute/skier range with falls and ski changes. Skier and boat ready on deck. It maybe that running 2 boat slalom (on deck skier immediately ready to go) saves a lot of time - allowing format changes. I know the 2 driver issues - but it seems to work at the Big Dogs.
Baller klindy Posted February 5, 2015 Baller Posted February 5, 2015 @wish tylocal set down times at WPB (and SMRR last year) are 35-40 seconds basically from the time the skier sinks into the water. So "exit gate - shorten - entrance gate" time is well less than 2 minutes. Figure 6 minutes a slalom skier under normal curconstances. Trick and Juno is slightly shorter unless it's the young or older groups. They take more time.
Baller Ham_Wallace Posted February 5, 2015 Author Baller Posted February 5, 2015 disland, I have been preaching that for a dozen years Run what ya' brung until Super Finals. Then toss in the seniors, especially if they have been there on their own dime all week.
Baller JackQ Posted February 5, 2015 Baller Posted February 5, 2015 I think three judges are more than sufficient. I see as many bad calls at the Nationals than a local tournaments, maybe more. If we reduce the complexity of multiple videos, etc, etc we can reduce cost and frustration. This is not the Olympics, and no ones future multi-million dollar contract depends on the outcome.
Baller MrJones Posted February 5, 2015 Baller Posted February 5, 2015 Not sure about format, but the idea of fewer judges for expense purposes is a good one.
