Baller jhughes Posted October 11, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 11, 2017 Anybody know somebody that could survey an 8-ball overlap course in the midwest region? Approximate cost? Please PM me.
Baller 9400 Posted October 11, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 11, 2017 A lot of things could affect that, single drop versus crossline, depth, shore access. Where I'm at you could be looking at anywhere from $1500 to $3000 or if I was regularly skiing with you ....nothing. Feel free to message me with any questions. Baller A_B Posted October 11, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 11, 2017 beer and ski rides don't get the job done anymore?
klindy
@A_B Sure...why not?
Baller jhughes Posted October 11, 2017 Author Baller Share Posted October 11, 2017 Single drop, decent shore access all around.
Baller mwetskier Posted October 12, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 12, 2017 does it freeze solid in the winter? if so just survey it on the ice which shouldn't cost more than about $500 and then chainsaw your holes and drop in your weights. theres articles on the internet explaining the process and 4 guys can easily put in a course in 6 hours or so . John Brooks
@jhughes I imagine there is a TC in your area. As @klindy mentioned, beer and food might get the job done.
Baller DaveD Posted October 12, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 12, 2017 Beer and ski rides? I'm in. Do I need bring anything more than ski equipment, a coozie, and a 25' tape measure?
Baller_ MISkier Posted October 12, 2017 Baller_ Share Posted October 12, 2017 @DaveD, I think you need at least a 100 meter tape. I bought one at Harbor Freight that was quite inexpensive. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
klindy
@jhughes is this a new course installation or just verifying/adjusting what’s already installed?
Baller jhughes Posted October 12, 2017 Author Baller Share Posted October 12, 2017 Converting a 6 to an 8, basically.
Baller Edbrazil Posted October 12, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 12, 2017 Go to: http://www.usawaterski.org/pages/offdirectory.asp And select AWS and Technical Controller for Midwest. There are 10 in the Midwest. Most/all of them have the needed skills and instruments, and may be reasonable cost compared with a survey company. Baller Edbrazil Posted October 12, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 12, 2017 I have done a good bit of work with 8-buoy courses. Most recently at Kris LaPoint's in Florida, and before that at Dave Goode's place near Salt Lake City. Best if you can extend the course in just one direction, and retain all the original 6-buoy
Baller A_B Posted October 13, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 13, 2017 One of the MI Tech guys helped my friend get his course surveyed into shape. We all know one another, so I doubt there was much $ exchanged, if any.
Baller bassfooter Posted October 18, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 18, 2017 @A_B as a Southern California baller who's been on the west coast since graduating from Michigan Tech some 34 years ago (ahem), I cannot believe someone mentioned my alma mater on Ball of Spray. No water ski team, for some reason. Broomball. And hockey.
Baller A_B Posted October 18, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 18, 2017 Sorry for the reference. MI Technical Controllers. One of them who lives on a lake just north of the Ohio line has helped out some other folks. Not sure how far he will travel for beer!
Baller bassfooter Posted October 20, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 20, 2017 @A_B Doh! Silly me. No apology necessary - totally my fault.
John Brooks
@bassfooter I'll throw in some support for Michigan Tech. My nephew is a graduate of MT a couple years ago. He loved that school. I thought he was nuts wanting to live in that climate, but he was very happy there. But no waterski team I understand.
Baller braindamage Posted October 20, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 20, 2017 MTU-my alma matter, class of '91 We used to ski the portage in the fall but it was short and chilly. No waterski team but downhill and CC skiing were big. Oh yeah, and hockey...and broomball...and beer...and cold...and snow...
Baller bassfooter Posted October 21, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 21, 2017 @John Brooks @braindamage Summers at Tech are sweet and short. This year, I think summer fell on a Wednesday. I got a ski ride on the Portage one time while a student up there, cruised right under the lift bridge. Also, Twin Lakes south of town -- with a wood-fired sauna at the water's edge to warm up! And yes. Drinking. Lots and lots of drinking.
Baller DaveD Posted October 22, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 22, 2017 Thinking back to all the civil engineering students at Tech surveying campus when I was there, you would think at least one alum would be a TC. Then again, it seems like a large percentage of Tech Grads are so emotionally scarred from the weather up there they move someplace warm after they graduate.
