Baller FSSPCat Posted August 4, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 4, 2018 Does anyone have an extra on of these lying around by any chance? Would rather not shell out $300 just for the fuel gauge. Everything else works on it just fine.
Baller Ski_Dad Posted August 4, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 4, 2018 I might have one, I'll have to look around. But chances are your fuel sender is the issue if it just reads empty ?? - on my old boat I could test it by grounding it somehow and seeing if the gauge moved to full - you might want to look into that before replacing the gauge. Baller FSSPCat Posted August 4, 2018 Author Baller Share Posted August 4, 2018 Thanks @Ski_Dad. Definitely not the sending unit. Went through all he usual stuff, replaced the sending unit, checked the voltage etc. Finally plugged my buddies gauge into mine and it worked fine. The gauge is definitely the issue. Baller OSUwaterskier Posted August 5, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 5, 2018 This is 100% off topic, but Medallion Insturments is 1-2 years from being the most hated company in the water sports industry. Once these first five year warranties start running out, everyone with touchscreens will be wanting their $300 gauges back...
Baller BraceMaker Posted August 5, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 5, 2018 Medallion is already the whipping post. Mdc1000 are just NLA. Im sure if you post a WTB on a malibu forum you should be able to help fund a MDC to analog conversion for someone.
Baller eyepeeler Posted August 5, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 5, 2018 My RLX fuel gauge would stick on E once in a while. A couple of power turns later and it was fine. Definitely the sending unit on mine.
Baller gregy Posted August 6, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 6, 2018 I need a tach for mine. Don't need bad enough to spend $500 on it though.
Baller FSSPCat Posted August 6, 2018 Author Baller Share Posted August 6, 2018 @gregy I saw factory tachs for under $100.
Moffattra
@FSSPCat I am planning an analog conversion this winter if you want to wait that long?
Baller_ DW Posted August 7, 2018 Baller_ Share Posted August 7, 2018 @FSSPCat : did you check to see if Great Lakes Skipper may have one?
Baller FSSPCat Posted August 7, 2018 Author Baller Share Posted August 7, 2018 @Moffattra sure. I only have a few more days of vacation before I’m back behind the club boat at home. @DW yup. They have every gauge but that one.

Baller nam1975 Posted August 7, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 7, 2018 Search on Malibu Crew for the how to. People were checking and cleaning all plugs 1st....then opening up the control box and cleaning up and or new solder on connections. You have to use a heat gun or hair dryer to break the seal. Seemed to work for most.
kylegansel
I actually have a spare multi gauge and rpm gauge off a 2005 Response LX. Multi Gauge I just replaced cause the plastic had some scratches on it but it worked ok. The RPM gauge was removed for my perfect pass.

kylegansel
So also another note. Someone on the Malibu Facebook Page said to call Medallion. They were actually great!! First off you can get new clear covers for dirt cheap if yours are scratched. 2nd they gauges are over $200 less if you go direct versus buying from Bakes or Great Lakes Skipper.
