SCHEDULE FOR THE 2019 NAUTIQUE BIG DAWG WORLD TOUR ANNOUNCED

ORLANDO, FL (February 20, 2019) – Nautique is proud to announce the dates and locations for the 2019 Nautique Big Dawg World Tour as well as a new event format. As the premier tour for 34-mph over 35 slalom skiers across the globe, the Big Dawg World Tour is towed exclusively by the record-setting Ski Nautique.

The tour this year will include 2 qualifying stops at premier waterski venues as the top slalom skiers battle it out for a spot in the 2019 Nautique Big Dawg World Tour Finals.

Each stop for the 2019 season will include two qualifying rounds of 34-mph slalom skiing. The top 8 best single scores from the two qualifying rounds will advance straight to the Sweet 16 as seeds 1-8. Based upon cumulative scores of both qualifying rounds, skiers 9-24 will advance into a NEW Last Chance Round. The 8 winners from the Last Chance Round will move onto the Sweet 16 as seeds 9-16. The Nautique Big Dawg World Tour Final will run the same as the qualifying stops, except that the elite 8 will be under the lights.

Head-to-Head Seeds 1-8 will be based upon best single score from any of the qualifying rounds. Ties will be broken by using skiers score from second round of qualifying (e.g. back-up score from skiing in the qualifying event). If a tie still exists, the initial seeding placement from that event will be used.

Head-to-Head Seeds 9-24 will be based upon cumulative score of both qualifying rounds. In the case of a tie on cumulative score, ties will be broken using the skier’s best score from qualifying rounds. If a tie exists for any spot other than 24th, second-level ties will be broken using the skier’s USA Water Ski National Rankings List score or equivalent IWWF average (non-US skiers). If a tie for the 24th spot exists after the first- level tiebreak criteria (e.g. best score from qualifying rounds), a run-off will be held to determine the 24th slot. If run-off consists of multiple skiers, the skiing order will be determined by the running order at the time of the tournament start.

25th place and below will be based upon best single score from any of the qualifying rounds. Ties will be broken by using skiers score from second round of qualifying, unless first round scores are only available scores. (E.g. back-up score from skiing in the qualifying event). If a tie still exists, the initial seeding placement from that event will be used.

NEW FOR 2019: Skiers that qualify for Seeds 9-24 will meet in a NEW single round Head-to-Head called the Last Chance Round (LCR). The LCR will be run after Qualifying and before the Sweet 16 and will be scheduled by the LOC. Winners of the LCR brackets will determine Seeds 9-16 in the Sweet 16 Final Bracket.

Officials and Boat Order: Officiating crews will be split into two boats (Boat 1 and Boat 2). Designation of Boat 1 and Boat 2 will be chosen by the chief driver and will not change during the event (e.g. the same two drivers will pull the head-to-head.). The boats will rotate which crew takes the skier off the dock in the head-to-head pairing in accordance with the following:

So it looks like to be competitive a skier really needs to ski both stops due to the use of the points system to determine qualifying for the Finals. Makes it tough if you can't financially manage the trip across the pond, from either side.

I was thinking the opposite...you should be able to go to either site, post a decent score and get to the finals....Okeeheelee has plenty of room/availability to pull a bunch of finalists....and most will be there for Nationals anyway.

@liquid d From the rules "A cumulative score for each skier will be calculated by adding the two highest point totals from the qualifying events." So if I understand correctly the best cumulative score a skier can have with only one stop is 45, win one qualifier and scratch the other. Someone that scored 23rd in both qualifiers would beat a guy with a single score of 45. Do I have that right?

@WoodySkier in the last few years, some of the BD events did not fill up. The sponsors would rather have fewer events that fill. But to be fair, the sponsors would be happy to have more than 3 events if they fill.

 

In another effort to drive attendance, the format has been tweaked/expanded. Between these two changes I expect the events to be very well attended this year, and we will take it forward from here.

 

@ski6jones your understanding of the points system is correct. Yes, attending both events gives you a big advantage. But once again, driving attendance is a goal. It will be interesting to see how this impacts the field at the finals in FL. My guess is, a few skiers will get in on the merits of attendance rather than performance, but not many.

Like the new format changes. Was planning to ski this season but I am hosting our State Championships this year which is the same date as the US stop. More stops would be favorable but it has evolved to be about the "show" which is necessary for the sponsors.
