Baller disland Posted July 14, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 14, 2020 I guess 196's are getting to be like vintage hot rods that go up in value
Members RGilmore
Wow. $30+k. We have the same boat, minus the Rev. R and he Bimini. Bought for $24,800 in winter of 2010 from a dealer in Wisconsin. So, while it's not the biggest ROI ever it's still nice to know we probably haven't lost money on our investment. Baller APB Posted July 15, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 15, 2020 The value of used boats is insane right now! Great job and get it if you can. Beautiful boat. The problem is replacing it is crazy expensive
Baller ozski Posted July 15, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 15, 2020 Yeah nah... Much as I love the 196 its time to let go and move on, this new MC will put downward pressure on used boat prices which means there will be better options around soon enough. Baller A_B Posted July 15, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 15, 2020 The 196 is a great hull. It doesn't need moveable weights in the boat to make a great wake and to handle properly. But I grew up skiing on late 70's ski boats which now are used for wakeboard boats. Maybe those old boats taught us how to keep the ski on edge through the wakes? The 196 is holding value for a reason!
CR1
@ozski What makes you think the new MC is going to put downward pressure on the ski boat market?
Baller swc5150 Posted July 15, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 15, 2020 @CR1 The lowering of the starting price by $10k is one aspect.
CR1
@swc5150 Starting price means very little. We're still talking north of $70k!! You put a few options in like SeaDek or Deckedance, a bimini, etc and you're likely over $90K....right where everyone else is.
sixball
Dammer I wish I was looking for a new to me ski tug! Love skiing the 196.
Baller adkh2oskier Posted July 15, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 15, 2020 Makes me feel really good to see 196s pricing these days. Bought an 09 w 500 hrs, like new condition for many $$$S less 2 years ago. Based on all the other 196s I see on SIA w Zero Off(which is not many) I'm sure I could sell mine for at least what I paid if not more.
Baller ozski Posted July 16, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 16, 2020 @CR1 By all accounts the new MC checks the last box for a lot of fence sitting Nautique owners - tracking. On top of that existing MC owners will be motivated to update which means you can expect to see a bit of churn happening pretty soon. You can already have a used 200 in the 30's so why on earth would you opt for a 196? A new 70k ish 6.0 that tracks is borderline disruptive, especially so if your north of 100k with your main feature / benefit matched by the other guys. Baller jjackkrash Posted July 21, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 21, 2020 Nautique just responded to the downward-price pressure caused by the new discounted Prostar by raising the starting MSRP $5k on their 2021s. It will be interesting to see where street prices and the used market shakes out. https://www.nautique.com/models/ski-nautique/overview
Baller rockdog Posted July 21, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 21, 2020 @jjackkrash my eyes have been on the way out for a while now, but it looks like you wrote Nautique lifted the price. There must be a mistake or my eyes truly are stuffed??
Baller Andre Posted July 21, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 21, 2020 120k MSRP. Ridiculous. My ski finish in 16.95 but my ass is out of tolerance!

Supporting Member Than_Bogan Posted July 21, 2020 Supporting Member Share Posted July 21, 2020 30.5 seems unrealistic to me, but then again that is a truly great ski boat. If my similar '07 is worth more than I paid for it (29.5, many years ago), that's pretty cool!
Baller_ Wish Posted July 21, 2020 Baller_ Share Posted July 21, 2020 My buddy just picked up an 08 for $19.5. He will maybe invest another $500 tops.
Baller Hallpass Posted July 21, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 21, 2020 Prices on boats, jeeps, dirt bikes, and RVs are crazy right now. Wait out this pandemic, and you'll find great deals on all.
Baller_ Bruce_Butterfield Posted July 21, 2020 Baller_ Share Posted July 21, 2020 Definitely a sweet boat, but if it sells within 10% of the asking price, I may have to buy @horton a case of Scotch. If it was easy, they would call it Wakeboarding
Baller skiboat38 Posted July 27, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 27, 2020 Looks like to me @horton is getting a case of scotch....I've driven and skied it many times, there are not any cleaner boats out there
CCRSKR
Boat is sold! And at just over 3% off the asking price it looks like @horton will be enjoying a case of hootch...
Baller LeonL Posted July 31, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 31, 2020 About boat prices, specific to this thread....I've got a nice '08 196 with just under 600 hours. After this thread and another about an '08 196 has caused me to think. What would I price my boat at? I don't know, but even at 40K what would I replace it with for that 40K? I'm keeping what I've got. And @disland , I bought mine in April 2008 from a mfg rep with 25 hours. I know what they cost new, and it was a LOT more than 30K, and I think I got a fair deal on it. Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted July 31, 2020 Baller_ Share Posted July 31, 2020 @LeonL I am beginning to think the same way. Got something that works better then what is going to replace it with and spend $20K more on..
Baller vtjc Posted July 31, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 31, 2020 @LeonL and @Jody_Seal I am literally in the same boat.
Baller disland Posted July 31, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 31, 2020 @LeonL OK, I looked it up $36,500 without a trailer 4/16/2009. And yes I am keeping it
Baller UWSkier Posted July 31, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 31, 2020 Part of the reason the SN is so expensive is that it's a 23 foot boat that someone crumpled up. Iron out the wrinkles and you'll see what I'm talking about. You get a lot more boat when you buy a SN. :D
Baller aupatking Posted August 1, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 1, 2020 In my ski club now are 5 196’s ranging from 2007 down to 1999. Best hull ever
