Baller_ MISkier Posted August 20, 2020 Baller_ Share Posted August 20, 2020 @The_MS is it the dry one that shows up on Google Earth? The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
Baller BraceMaker Posted August 20, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 20, 2020 Think Mecca is this dry one on the dropped pin.
Baller_ MISkier Posted August 20, 2020 Baller_ Share Posted August 20, 2020 @BraceMaker, used to be Ski Ranch Oasis? The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
Baller UWSkier Posted August 20, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 20, 2020 Curious for any of the CA lake owners, especially sole owners... what's you monthly bill like to keep water in those things? They seem to all be in rather arid climates, not unlike what we have here in AZ.
Baller BraceMaker Posted August 20, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 20, 2020 I forgot which one eleeski said - the thread is on here somewhere I think the whole story of the sultan sea is interesting and I hadn't heard it till after he told me the story. I think it was one of the ones in the arrows. Found the thread below - the ones on the right with water were the ones he was/is selling and the other arrow to the left desert ski oasis. Baller ForrestGump Posted August 20, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 20, 2020 Eric's site is really close to the International Banana Museum. Probably a lot of tourist traffic around there.
Baller APB Posted August 20, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 20, 2020 It must be crazy hard to keep water in those lakes in the desert. Are there any issues with California water rights?
Baller Killer Posted August 20, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 20, 2020 The issue
Baller HMan66 Posted August 20, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 20, 2020 Just talked to @eleeski . He sold the Mecca site a few months ago. The lake in the picture that @MISkier posted may still be up for grabs.
Baller_ The_MS Posted August 21, 2020 Baller_ Share Posted August 21, 2020 There is a lake NE of Milton FL for sale. 900k Looks sweet but no utilities
Baller dbutcher Posted August 21, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 21, 2020 Unless you have family with whom you can ski, think about who you will ski with before you buy a lake as sole owner. Some parts of this country have ski lakes sitting around idle because there are no skiers anymore. It's a shame.
Baller skimtb Posted August 21, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 21, 2020 ^^^. I’m sure it’s true but That’s nuts. Considering how many folks are struggling on open / public water....
Administrators Horton Posted August 21, 2020 Administrators Share Posted August 21, 2020 The Salton Sea is America's worst ecological disaster and I find it fascinating. @BraceMaker it is the Salton Sea not the Sultan Sea Goode ★ HO Syndicate ★ KD Skis ★ MasterCraft ★ PerfSki Radar ★ Reflex ★ S Lines ★ Stokes ★ Baller Video Coaching System Drop a dime in the can
Baller BraceMaker Posted August 21, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 21, 2020 Thanks and roger that. After that thread I watched about 100 videos. Would love to own a lake but even with 2 boats I rarely have a driver. Probably worse there.
Members RGilmore
You could go the way Ed Hickey does - last time I checked he's got a full-time driver on his staff. As a bonus, that driver is Wim DeCree.
Baller Cooper_Trelawney Posted August 21, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 21, 2020 @Horton that's an interesting documentary. Thanks for sharing it. I drove down the eastern side of the Salton Sea a few times when I lived in Ojai to see my brother who was stationed at the Marine airbase in Yuma. I found it fascinating and strange. It smelled and I remember just keeping the gas pedal on the floor while imagining the 1960s recreation around there. It was all ruins and mobile homes and desert with this big flat body of water framed by mountains. Depressing but kinda pretty from the right angles. Weird area for sure. Baller ScarletArrow Posted August 21, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 21, 2020 @Horton It might be California's worst ecological disaster, but America's worst ecological disaster would be the Dust Bowl in the '30's. Ken Burns put together a magnificent documentary on its history. I never understood how it could be man made until watching. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYOmjQO_UMw&list=PLzkQfVIJun2Kl_ZEVTYA-qXlloRYQP3kv
Baller jjackkrash Posted August 22, 2020 Baller Share Posted August 22, 2020 @ScarletArrow that was a great documentary. Almost as good as Ken Burns' Baseball (which was fantastic).
