Guest
I have a 1997 Ski Nautique and want to put some preload in the steering. What side of the rudder do I need to file? The Port or Starboard side? Thank you!
Baller Mastercrafter Posted August 25, 2022 Baller Share Posted August 25, 2022 With Mastercraft, in order to have it pull right, you file the right (driver) side. If Nautiques pull left being RH (reverse) rotation and all, file the left side.
Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted August 25, 2022 Baller_ Share Posted August 25, 2022 file???? that's funny! might as well pet the cat .. grind is the correct terminology. on a Nautique looking at rudder from the rear you will "Grind" the left side trailing edge. two nice passes with an electric grinder then go run the boat and see if you are attaining the effect you desire. you can over compensate so keep your grinding to a minimum as if becomes very hard if not impossible to lighten the rudder load without adversely affecting slow speed maneuverability. 19AmericanSkier85
https://forum.ballofspray.com/profile/Mastercrafter Thank you for responding and the advice! https://forum.ballofspray.com/profile/Jody_Seal will use an angle grinder. Is there an adjustable rudder that you would recommend? Thank you for the help!
Baller Killer Posted August 25, 2022 Baller Share Posted August 25, 2022 You can replace with the newer rudder. My 01 has the rudder with the adjustable tab. Unfortunately the screws holding the tab on mine have totally rusted shut many years ago. https://www.nautiqueparts.com/product/rudder-with-trim-tab/
Baller jjackkrash Posted August 26, 2022 Baller Share Posted August 26, 2022 Ya, nut up, get the new rudder.
Baller LeonL Posted August 26, 2022 Baller Share Posted August 26, 2022 Yeah, a new rudder to the tune of $800. I'd do a lot of trial grinding before I'd spring for a new rudder.
Baller EricW Posted August 26, 2022 Baller Share Posted August 26, 2022 A machine shop may be able to fit the trim tab to your existing rudder. https://www.nautiqueparts.com/product/rudder-trim-tab/
