  1. @ALPJr sounds a bit like a turn and burn. They are great formats too. People don't want to come put to tournaments and ski 2 passes, its just not productive. Keep the state, regional and nationals a traditional format but if your area is not having much participation or tournaments in general need to get people to come out. They won't come out if they can't ski! They will stay home and get their 2 sets in with 16 passes!
  2. In Canadian rules you can ski in a lower division if you choose, but not a higher age. So you would ski against M6 and at M6 rules. I don't think many do it but the rule was likely created for this reason; where you skied 36 or 34 and didnt want to drop the speed. I actually think we need to look at a special 34mph division for juniors and young adults who don't ski at 36. I waited 20 years (until M3) to ski my first sanctioned tournament because I never skied 36.
  3. The first few tournaments I went to had this rule in place but it was combined with a guaranteed 4 pass rule and the division was not included with the record capale divisions. Start at any speed and line length and you get 1 fall. If you fall on your 4th pass you're done. It's probably one of the best ways to get new skiers out to try tournaments. IMO
  4. A few people have hit he nail on the head. I think it depends on where your at in yiur skiing. Like @bishop8950 says he's not going to free ski 41 off, but if you're working on anywhere from 15 to 35off I think you want to free ski at faster speeds and or shorter lines. I open at 22off because I can run it 100% but I never ski it open water. I typically start at 32 off and go to 35 and maybe 38 if I just want to feel it but never spend much time there as its a pass I have only got to a few times and don't work on it in the course.
  5. every member should watch this.. solid gold! I think Bob sheds a tremendous amount of light (in a funny way) on some of the challenges newer, or non-competitive skiers face to entering the sport.
  6. without a decent pre-curve the gloves will bunch up and cause blisters when you grip. Its a necessity. You shouldn't be able to straighten your fingers, that's the point! when they get wet and you use them a few times they will loosen up as well. I tried on the new inside out ergo's and vapor's in both kevlar and amara and must say I really liked how they felt. I"ve switched from using mostly 41tails which are kevlar to an amara glove, and find my hands are in better shape overall with amara.
  7. Gosh no. I always go to Florida in November. I prefer to book a trip to s. Floroda as the heat is more predictable bit it can be amazing in central Florida though December really
  8. The systems are the same but they are made by different people. Mob is the former creator of ob4 and a member here. I believe he recommends if you run a soft boot you use a buckle or solid laces for the top cuff. You want the pin to release the boot not your foot from the boot.
  9. @skiinxs the ski site is located in the middle of the country a few hours from the coast, so no. There is so much to do in the La Fortuna and Arenal area. I have been to thr area but did not ski, mostly because there is so much to see and do non-skiing. Next time I'll go to the ski school!
  10. @escmanaze you lost me when you said the nwz hull "sucked" it is a great hull even to this day. Not as nice as the tsc or a 94 prostar but a great boat. In 93 the price difference might have been a few grand to a 5.8L and nobody wanted a 230hp 5L in their ski boat when the standard 260-280hp weren't over powered as is.
  11. Correct craft owns centurion and supreme now as understand it. Could be some alignment going on. It would make sense for correct craft to offer a more price friendly model through their already extensive dealer network. The carbon pro would fit this niche well I'd think
  12. My year started late and slow mostly due to weather. I ended last season on a strong note but couldn't get into my groove until I was 15-20 sets into the year (which is a 1/4 of my season). Meant my tournament rounds were mediocre at best as they were all in July. Some fin tweaking and a few reminders on fundamentals and I started to ski better than ever in August which carried through to a pb in September. Still have 1 more trip south in a couple weeks before I'm done for 2016.
  13. Just got my silver place medal in thr mail from regionals. The kids all get there's and a podium photo at the event. Participation is down in my area and it has zero to do with there ever being a lack of trophies. It is important but hardly a magic bullet to increased participation. I'm surprised there are events where there aren't ribbons/medals/trophies for youth at your events
  14. I've been told by a few pro coaches that you can pull out later as the line shortens as the distance to reach the gates is shorter. I start at -22 and I pull out a little earlier here than I would at -28 to -35 (where my ride would typically end). I can't say I adjust my pull out from -28 to -35, but if I did it would be maybe a fraction later and/or a little stronger. If you pull out too early, you loose the speed you need to match the boat's pull and can get sucked back in. As the line shortens you need to have a steeper angle through the wakes. After reading Jmac's blog and getting some solid coaching last weekend on my gates, I feel later is better if you can time it right. http://www.jmacskis.com/
  15. I might ski 1 or 2 events a summer. IF they are Close to home and happen to be a regional then so beit. I would say I want to ski to my own score I know I can run but it would be damn nice to beat a few skiers in my division. I That said I did beat a few skiers at regionals who average 6+ buoys ahead of me and that's because for some reason they messed up and fell on their easy passes. To me I didn't win anything, that's just skiing, it can happen to anyone and I'm not kidding myself into thinking I'm a better skier than them because they fell early one day. I would be more interested in competing if there were handicaps.
  16. @aupatking I can see that just from feeling it, I'm going to baby this shirt! I had read a good tip here to trim your finger nails, so I will be careful in handling it. any special advice on storing and drying?
  17. @sudsysul I think at slower than 34 you want something with a little more width
  18. I just picked up a blacktec 1.5 top from @perfski after looking at several on the rack. It looks and feels like a superior product for sure. Can't 'wait to try it!
  19. What An amazing event. This was my first night jump and pro event I've ever been to in person. I was lucky enough to be in town when it was going on and super glad I went. The show was pretty much non stop on the water action from the moment it started. If this is how people are going to put on events we are in a good place. The crowd was very large too and I'm sure if we get the word out about how great it was, not how you couldn't see the gates for slalom, it would be much much bigger next time. @Orlando76 negatively is not welcome here and it takes away from what was an amazing event. If your post was constructive criticism perhaps you'd not be getting those dislikes. we don't need this attitude in the sport IMO. I kept saying I couldn't believe the skiers were able to even turn 1 because of the dark, not "I can't see if they got through thr gates wahhh". I was told by a few people that have been to night jump events in the past that the jump course was illuminated more than usual. It was the king of darkness night jump and only 4 slalom skiers hit the water, one being Karen True love who I think took home some cash. Really great concept to handicap the slalom. It was a pro event not a backyard record. Thank god
  20. @Horton I don't think that's a totally different way of thinking about it, they both understand what the letters are doing. As an examole Nate using A makes sense because there isn't a skier who generates more angle, as early as he does, he's spiked ZO early so A isnt going to react like it might for Jason who has a tendency to wheelie the finish of his turns at harder passes (and thus not generate as much angle, as quick as Nate). Jmac is also a bigger, stronger guy and pulls harder than Nate. I was intrigued by his description because I use B2 almost exclusively but eqrliet this year when I get a strong boat and the line gets shorter I started going to C1 based on advice. I typicallt don't have to make that adjustment on a 5.7 200 but I notice it helps immensely on a 5.3 or even a 6.0 200.
  21. thanks everyone. crisis averted! I intend on getting a new vapor next year, but this ski has been the best I've ever had and wanted to keep it for a longggg time. good to know it shouldn't get worse and wont hurt the stick.. will take the fin block off and glue it back down with wood and clamps as @SkiJay said.
  22. I noticed a few spots at the tail of my green vapor that appeared the top sheet separating earlier this season but it didn't seem to be getting worse, then to my astonishment I pulled my ski out after not using it for a month and the entire top sheet has started to I'll away from the tail. Why?? I keep the ski in the same spot in a dry and climate controlled basement. I let it dry out inside after almost every ski and never leave it in the sun. I also have a fin firkin on thr tail which protects it from dings. I've seen other green vapors do the same thing but always told myself I take better care of my ski tan most.. Is there any way to fix it? I don't want it pulling up anymore. I'm skiing this weekend too..
