  1. Happens to Jeff Rodgers every time he shortens to -41
  2. Moving from a fusion to the H1 the first thing I noticed was that I had a lot more width particularly going into my onside, which is something I used to really struggle with. Instead of running straight downcourse and hooking a turn, I was able to come in wide and carve a nice turn around to the backside. I also found that if I did make a huge mistake that would usually end a pass for me, I could rip a lightning fast turn and get heaps of angle without having to throw my body all over the place. I just set a hard edge and got ready for the load, which was quickly relieved. Clearly not the ideal way to ski, but it oftentimes puts me back in a pass I shouldn't run. It can be difficult to control the ski in the turn if you're not patient. Maybe it's a little different with the H2
  3. I've always used a single strand of duct tape so my head doesn't fit but there's plenty of room for my arm to come back out if it does go in. I've never had my head touch the handle, but I've put an arm through and luckily just had my glove ripped off and nothing else.
  4. Does anyone know how safe the r-style really is? I know i should come out of it in an otf situation, but in a twisting fall I'm not too confident in it.
  5. I just don't like the rubbery inconsistent feeling with wiley's. I felt insecure and unbalanced in them. What appeals to me about the reflex r-style is the location of the ankle strap. I like lifting my heel quite a bit in the pre-turn. I don't trust it in a fall, though
  6. So I've been skiing for nearly five years on the same setup... Reflex front with HO laceup rtp. The rtp to me feels very secure compared to the average toe plate, but definitely allows more freedom than a high wrap, especially for my rear heel to lift going into the turn. The rtp is beat to hell and is ready to be thrown out, but I can't find a setup I like. The new laceup rtp's are less secure feeling. I can't ski on a regular rtp OR a highwrap... I've tried. I'm looking into the reflex r-style rear boot, but I'm interested in the OB4 release system which I would think is not compatable with the r-style. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  7. @lpskier the reason more groups don't go is the $$$. It's always a great experience but it's pretty expensive.
  8. @mwetskier skiing above school, always
  9. I've been looking at the r-style rear to go with my reflex front. I'm currently on the HO lace-up rtp, and my big toe goes up under the release and almost on the back of the front boot. I'm a little concerned about changing my ankle spacing, as well as the safety.
  10. I remember seeing him on the 8 ball lake in canton when he ws just starting out. One year he was barely running -15 at 34mph. A year or two later I think he was into -35
  11. skiing at -15 36mph would kill me. I've only skied -22 and shorter at that speed, and even -22 feels too long for the speed.
  12. @skistrom didn't someone on Edged In Water say something like "If you put Scott Ellis on Freddy's shoulders, Chris Parrish would still be taller than them?" Point is he's not very tall
  13. Okay so I thought this was all a joke but is he seriously slaloming?
  14. @Horton so basically you thought the original Helix looked quirky and difficult to manage? That would be undertandable for many skiers. Personally I don't mind it
  15. @Horton what did you not like? What about the H2 would fix it? Just curious
  16. @Chef23 I skied on a N1 for about a month and always felt behind on it. I was running around the same buoy count, but couldn't progress, so I went back to my fusion. I tried the helix just for the heck of it last july and it blew my socks off. Within two weeks I picked up 6 full buoys and started running midway into 35
  17. I absolutely love the 41 tail glove but I've always had issues with the velcro coming undone.
  18. At -32 and shorter (36mph) I prefer the prostar wakes. The nautique seems to have more of a dip at the center at short lines.
  19. I see a lot of people try to do a late pullout 1-handed gate and they have no idea what they're doing. They are narrow, late, and rushed and get crappy gates every time. They then try a 2-handed gate and calm down and do it the right way. For those who can keep a cool head, I'm sure there are benefits.
  20. Can someone explain exactly how the + works? I hope I'm not derailing the thread
  21. I guess "hard packed" isn't the right way to describe it. Small layer of powder on top, but as soon as it's uncovered you're on ice.
  22. I tend to take a long tome to get back into things so i only ski passes i can run fairly easily for at least a month. I would say keep just running passes until it gets closer to timeto run a tournament. If you've been running 32's for a month and stroking every last one of them, when you get to the tournament and shorten to -35 you'll feel right at home. Get your skiing looking pretty at your earlier passes for now. Also don't get hurt
  23. I'm a RFF, but I have the same thoughts before my pullout. Try thinking about using your hips to control all movement. You want to point your left hip and "fall" in the direction you wish to travel. Don't fall away from the boat, but rotate your upper body towards the boat and "fall" more down the boat path. This way you should have most of your weight on your front foot. I use a RTP instead of double boots however, so I don't know how difficult that will be. My pullout is rather quick and aggressive, but not heavy on the boat. Try doing some pullout drills. I think Seth Stisher has some videos on youtube that would be good to watch.
