  1. Prior Generation of 210 Super Air, flattened out for rec skiing if you were willing to go 36 mph. But by 2012, not so much.
  2. Would be great if order were mixed up randomly. Not right that the kids always go first. But also would not be right if M4 or W7 were first every time. The summer that got my daughter hooked she was 8 or 9. Once a week, I think it was Wed, there was an unofficial kids only tournament Starting about 4 in the afternoon. Scored on a handicap system. One young girl was skiing doubles. A couple of teen gentlemen were into 38 and 39 off. Averaged about 20 kids each week. There were prizes each week and every kid had a chance to win. If I recall, 9 lakes donated an afternoon for the kids. One week Rhoni Barton was in Town and jumped in the boat to do a bunch of the Driving. I think Terry Winter watched every kid, regardless of ability. There was a bbq, and maybe a beer or two for adults who were not officiating. These were fun, and even adults with no kids were showing up to officiate, drive, enjoy the bbq, and encourage the kids. To me, these unofficial events were the water skiing community at its best. It was great for the kids.
  3. I 've never owned a tournament boat other than a Correct Craft (Ski Nautique). But, I saw Horton's boat live today. Nice looking boat, and the color is unique. Depending upon the Sun angle, looks black, dark cherry, maroon/wine. It's not resale red, or basic blue, but I think it is really cool. I like it. If I had few extra bucks in my pocket, I would be looking to buy it. BKH
  4. Did not want to make you look bad in front of your daughter.
  5. The walkaround guys like to ski those - no bindings.
  6. Surprised I did not recieve this in emails as my daughter has skied in west, and skied in development clinics for several years. Oh well.
  7. Even with lousy weather, their were probably 2000+ at the bib draw for last weekend's world cup in Tahoe.
  8. It is definitely steep (55 degree) and fast. Biggest issue right now is keeping all this fresh snow off race course.
  9. Bib draw this Friday evening at Palisades Tahoe (formerly Squaw Valley). Will be interesting to see how many come out for the draw.
  10. 30 feet in Tahoe, and no end to the out of town pass holders
  11. No words. Such a great guy.
  12. @george. I've received notices for sales on trick skis both D3 and Masterline/Quantum Trick Skis are having holiday sales. Have not looked, but I would guess that Radar and some of the distributors like Perfski or Wiley's are probably having sales as well. FWIW
  13. It's the San Mateo Marina Lagoon, not Foster City. https://www.cityofsanmateo.org/601/Marina-Lagoon-Beaches. Fish market is still there, but there are plans to tear it down and build a ton of condos/apartment type units. I'm not sure the schedule.
  14. My daughter skied there two or three years. When we moved to Tahoe, the Selsors even reached out to inquire when they saw she was not entered. Great peeps. Delta was home for 25 years, and I hope to get her back there next fall. Cool video.
  15. We have a course on Boca
  16. I believe MC started putting composite stringers in the boats during 83, and all were composite in 84. If going MC, I'd save the effort of a stringer replacement, unless you just love doing boat restoration. My $.02.
  17. If you don't have the money, you don't have the money. Everyone understands that. But, when I look at the actual numbers, I don't think the numbers support a lot of the griping about high cost of kids' equipment. I'm out maybe $2000 on my daughter's slalom gear from the time she was 3 until now at age 16. Could have been less than that if I had bought more gently used gear, and sold more of the gear I did buy. I certainly have friends that have spent way more than that on baseball and football equipment. -HO Trainers - $100. Still have them, but I could still sell them for $75-O'Brien Amigos - $50 used - highly recommended on this site for young skiers. Still have them but could sell for $50 today.-O'Brien 59" with Bindings - $225 on clearance. Most people on this site recommend a larger ski, but I had already bought the ski. Got her through a couple of years of Slalom. Sold for $125 (had folks offer more after I had agreed to sell). Kid who got the ski used it at Nationals.-Radar TRA with bindings. Around $400. Used three seasons. Even when I offered to buy a new ski, coach told me no, it was working fine. Sold for $175-KD Platinum. Also stepped up to a Reflex plate/boot, and rear toe plate. Was around $1500 for the ski. Seems like bindings were about $500 total. Used 2.5 years, including a podium finish at regionals. Sold the ski for $500, didn't really try to get more for it. When her foot grew, bought a new boot and lining, sold the old one. Took about $100 loss after a couple years of use, but still use same reflex plate, and will for years to come.-D3 ION 2. Current Ski. She's 5'10". Pretty much an adult and on the same schedule for skis and equipment as all the other adults. Along the way there was a junior rope around $100. Could have sold it, but gave it to another young skier. Six life vests, the first four of which came from Costco. I suppose I could have sold some of them but did not. Several sets of gloves. So, all told I've lost maybe $2000 in 12 years on kids' slalom gear, and have around $2500 into her current gear (Ski, bindings, Rope, Vest, Gloves), which is no different than what most"adults" have into their own setups. It just doesn't strike me as particularly expensive when compared to equipment costs of many other sports.
  18. Smart marketing. If you want to get kids into it young, give them graphics that catch their attention. Put their hero's on skis and boards that they would want to buy.
  19. D3 usually has a sale at Xmas time. I can't recall the discount (probably 10 or 15% which is not insignificant with a list price of $700). I bought my daughter's trick ski through that sale. I don't think they charge shipping either, which the used seller usually will do. If you don't have the money, you don't have the money - used or borrowed it is. My thought was modern trick skis hold value very well. So, if she hated it, sell the ski and only out maybe a couple hundred bucks. If she likes it, then got it right the first time, and money well spent. Else, I could have spent way too much time looking for a used ski. If she hated it, I'd still be selling the ski, and she'd be experimenting and making that decision based upon old equipment. If she loved it, I'd still end up buying a new ski, and would be out more cash than if I just bought new in the first place. FWIW.
  20. There is at least one Vintage Ski site on Facebook. You should check it out. I agree that for skiers, its usually about sentimetality, or you just like the looks. I suppose some of the really early skis have some value. But, where I see the highest prices is in the Antique stores and "home decor shops." Here in Tahoe, I see combo skis from the 60s that are worth maybe $5 at a garage sale, going for $300, $400, $500 bucks at the home decor shops. Wealthy peeps want to decorate their multi-million dollar "cabins"
  21. I think that the regions have youth development camps each summer. In the West, there were camps in Idaho, Sacramento, and the Bakersfield area this summer. Not sure about other Geos. Our daughter was invited to camp when she signed up for a USA water ski number and started competitions. FWIW.
  22. The Great Outdoors with John Candy and Dan Aykroyd was filmed there. Have visited a few times. Place has kind of a classic 50s and 60s feel.
