I thought nationals was amazing. It was our second year in a row to attend. I was very impressed at how well organized the event was, especially given the amount of skiers who attended!
1. I loved the site. It was beautiful.
2. I loved that they brought in all that power for us to be able to stay in our RV without running a generator 24/7! That made the trip much more affordable, and enjoyable for us to just stay on site and get back in the air condition when we needed it.
3. I thought having the kid activities and swim area was amazing. I have a 6 year old and a husband that do not ski, so I was happy to see some entertainment options for them. My husband really enjoyed the cash bar that they brought on site, and he really enjoyed watching the pros for the America's cup (as did we all!!!). My 6 year old enjoyed all the bouncy houses, slides, the swing set, etc... He also really enjoyed all the snow cones!
4. I loved that Dennis worked out a deal with the local YMCA to get people visiting for nationals a $5/day pass vs. the normal $10/day. The YMCA facilities were amazing (water park for the kids, etc...) & we were able to let the kids swim, and also take showers there vs. using all the water in our RV.
5. I loved how they allowed you to sign up for practice in advance. I thought that was a great way to handle it, and I hope they do that again next year.
6. Having a coffee bar on site was pretty cool.
7. Knowing that my son qualified a year in advance was very helpful as well. It's the main reason we decided to attend this year. We had lots of time to plan ahead.
My one suggestion would be to add more healthy food options next year for all the athletes. More salad options, healthy protein smoothies (with real fruits & veggies), raw veggies snacks on the side, or even cooked veggies or fruit on the side (vs. funnel cakes, french fries, etc....)
I was impressed and look forward to attending next year.
