  1. I took it easy, skied pretty solid, shortened it but didn't go crazy.  Then............  My buddy hit the water (Open - 36mph) and he hasn't skied in months either. He looked like crap as he ran 2 x28s, cleaned up 32, 35 and 3 38s. Not 3 at 38, but 3 back to back 38s. He is an $%^&^hole. Next day, I asked him if he was sore, he said, "Uh, I guess I can feel it." Whatever..
  2. Good article. It is frustrating how sore I get after a ski. I work out regularly but when I skied on Jan 31, my traps were so sore, you could drop me to my knees just by grabbing my shoulder. Thank god it goes away eventually.
  3. Cool hat, so how did it work? We use a rubber swimmers cap on the cold days.
  4. Mission Accomplished. Wife and I spend over $1,200 yesterday for two new sets of waterski boots. Also booked a trip to Arizona to do some waterskiing. Right now I am happy to be a government worker!
  5. Here we go, unfortunately you are going to get several different opinions, but I will give my two cents. What you are describing, "tip stall" sounds more like breaking at the waist, in which there are several causes, mostly all form related. Have you videotaped yourself to see if anything stands out in your form? Breaking at the waist is a common probem on the off side as skiers cannot get their ski to react as well and wind up throwing the shoulders forward, reaching forward, etc at the last second to get weight on the front of the ski. This works, but when the ski establishes sudden angle, the skier is not in the position to handle it. I would suggest leading the turn with your center mass, never comprimising your hips. Focus on just that. If you are convinced it is the ski set up and not your form, make small adjustments to your ski until the problem diminishes. If its not your form and you can't get the ski to work, try a new one, maybe with a demo program.
  6. Wife and I are going to Cancun in March, found www.waterskicancun.com. Thinking about taking the skis, but that is quite a hassle if its not really worth it. They say they have a pick of three courses depending on the wind. The boat is a Mastercraft Sportstar?? I think thats an open bow Prostar but not sure, probably older, but it has perfect pass. Has anyone skied there, is it worth dragging the skis all the way to Cancun? Thanks
  7. Last year I read a sports psychology book entitled, "In Pursuit of Excellence" by Terry Orlick.  The author trained a lot of Olympic athletes mostly in downhill skiing and there was a few references to a waterskiing as well. It really helped me deal with tournament nerves and improved my consistency.
  8. That picture of Winlock Waters is amazing, thanks for posting.ÂÂ
  9. Dave, that is funny, I was thinking the same thing!
  10. Here is what I bought from Radio Shack for $30. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102920 I attached it to a stereo reciever and plugged in the ipod, worked great. There are two microphone jacks and fader.
  11. Interesting. Bamboo??????
  12. I saw Broho on the prelim tournament guide for 09, never heard of it before, maybe we will head up that way next summer. Cool pic.
  13. Skispray, I got a 116 for myself and a 106 for my wife. I put the 116 on my 06 Nomad and liked the performance. I then got the new RCX and thought I would run it stock to get used to it. I liked the way it skied so much I never put the carbon fin on. My skiing began to deteriorate and I ordered an A1. While waiting for the ski to arrive, I put the carbon fin on. My skiing improved and I loved how the ski felt with the carbon fin. That is when I became a believer and actually canceled my A1 order. The ski turned better, while everything else stayed the same. I later got the A1 and liked it so I stuck with it. I have since bought two used Horton HO carbon fins, paying $90, so that is what I would like.  A few other skiers whom I highly respect are also believers in the fin. Honestly I am not trying to make a sale by any means. The fin I have for sale is a 106, $90 shipped.
  14. I was having similar issues with my RCX and put on a carbon fin, really made the ski come alive, same numbers. I have a carbon fin if you are interested.
  15. I am now looking for a Horton 106 that will fit an HO for my wife. If anyone has one for sale, let me know. Thanks.
  16. I have been on the FMs for 4 years and so has my wife. They have been maintanance free for the most part. The only issue arose when I went to an HO ski. The rear plate that attaches to the ski tends to bend. This is because of the ski mounts are too far back from the release, if that makes sense. It does still work, but its not ideal. A single plate eliviates this issue.  Other than that, no issues and no maintanance. I am planning on getting the FM E series, but the budget commitee (wife) shot down the proposal. Apparently, there are not enough funds in the biannual budget so I can't get this proposal passed until next fiscal year. I am trying to get an "emergency clause", arguing that the said account will be replenished in a timely manner. The Budget commitee is has taken it under advisement and is in recess. A decision date is not known at this time.
  17. Just got the fin, thanks Richard. I may throw it on tomorrow before we fly out to AZ for some end of the year tournaments Saturday and Sunday. Mmmm, decisions. Thanks for the quick shipping, your check should be there today or tomorrow.  Mike
  18. Interesting, can you still extend without any restrictions? I would also like to see how it works, watch some skiing. Is Nick using one?
  19. Wow, looks like mine was pretty far off with .705 and my wife's was actually correct. Thanks MS
  20. MS, you measuring flat or with the needle?
  21. My wife has a 65" and I was checking her settings yesterday and noticed that when I measured her fin flat from tail, it was .765. This seemed pretty far forward, as my 66.25 was .705, both settings were out of the box. Just trying to find out whats right.
  22. At this point, I am going to go with the E-series, double boots. I am saving my pennies now, 695 bucks!
  23. I also need the fin settings for the 65", if anyone has them. Thanks, Mike
