    Fate?

Fast approaching 71y/o last September I crashed skiing tore my hamstring and stretched my ACL, apart from family pressure to "act my age" I also thought this might be a good time to give it up. That night topped up with ibuprofen and whisky I watched the Mastercraft Pro on TWBC and couldn't believe what happened at the prizegiving. I skied on my new D3 ION2 today, not well but at least I skied and got to thinking if I hadn't won that ski I could have lost a big chunk of my life.
  2. Getting the thread back on track I have just moved from a Reflex white cuff to a 2023 vapor boot without a release, with both the foot and ankle snug it feels much better than the Reflex and I know I am going to come out of it.
  3. Unapologetically 2005 HO Monza & 2014 Mapple 6.0, irrationally 2016 Denali V 3.4, they all did something for me.
  4. And D3, looks like Ballers are doing well at TWBC, I won the men's prize in the same competition as @KRoundyI got Freddie's score right and he was kind enough to bring it over to the UK for me.
  5. @JoelHowley when you say rear lifted is that the whole boot or just the heel?
  6. @sagilbert another option is a faster ski, I am about your level and when I went to 32mph 5 years ago I was running 32 off quite often on my Denali but that ski broke and I haven't ran it since.
  7. @Keith_Menard They had planned to run head to head but one of the boats broke down so they had no option other than going back to "traditional" for the final.
  8. @SlalomSteve https://iwwfed-ea.org/classic/rl2005/eame/skieurs/8640.html Matteo was a top skier but I think injury ended his career early
  9. As above everyone is different, set it up to yourself and check it every couple of weeks as it will change with wear and temperature.
  10. @Rednucleus my arm went through the handle 2 years ago, happened really quick in a fall at 1 ball, I felt something pop and although initially it was very painful I was very lucky not to have caused some serious damage, I wasn't using a handle guard but my wife and I haven't skied without one since.
  11. Only adding to previous comments. Get some new video and get online video coaching, I have heard Freddie Winter is good on Givego and I have used @twhisper video coaching a lot cheaper than a ski holiday where you burn out on day 3. At 70 y/o I am struggling to maintain my scores every year and after a 3 month break it is like a new sport, can't imagine what it might be like after 30 years. On a lighter note you could go LFF and do a total reboot it might be quicker than unlearning what you know >:) Good luck whatever you do :)
  12. The wife surprised me with a brand new D3 NRG R2, can't wait for spring :)
  13. Stats say JT is 6'3" and CP is 6'5" one of them must be wrong B)
  14. Just found this video, don't think this would stand up with Sure Path, also looks like Sam Dumala drew the short straw with the driver and got a good boat path >:)

    Engine hours

@gsm_peter you are correct all fittings and tanks should be tested and recertified after 10 years that is why I am not getting involved with any work on the boat as I am also afraid of old gas systems. @A_B Metal tank holding LPG not gasoline.

    Ski Ropes

@dave2ball that is the idea I am looking for, doubt if she will be doing tournaments but here in the UK we don't get the option to use our own ropes in a tournament, just our handles.

    Ski Ropes

@PatM, no we both have masterline ropes she usually gets my hand me downs but they will be due to be changed next year.

    Engine hours

I have a friend who has an ex Ski School boat with approaching 5,500 hours, he has had it around 10 years but now it is down on power. The boat has ran on LPG all of it's life and he is talking about going down the route of getting a new gas system fitted but I am thinking he maybe wasting his money on an engine with so many hours and a sketchy service history in his ownership. Anyone have any experience on how long these engines last? I am guessing it is the equivalent of 275,000 mile on a car. The boat is a 2008 196 with a 5.7.

    Ski Ropes

@PatM she is not very heavy, the benefit would be to my pocket £20 compared to £150. @KRoundy yes that is why I asked the question, I would have thought it would have been the opposite with most of the shortest loops being double thickness with the rope fed back down I was thinking it would be less forgiving. Thanks for replying just looking for advice.
  20. My wife skis at 15 off 22mph and I doubt very much that she will ever shorten the line so I have been toying with the idea of buying some 16 strand 8mm ski line and making up a mainline with no shortenings. She has a good Masterline handle that we would use. The advantages I see are the rope would be a lot lighter with no loops to catch on things, the only drawback I can think of apart from having a shiny new rainbow line is it could be too bouncy but would she notice it at 22mph? Thoughts? Cam
