  1. @adamhcaldwell That's is AWESOME. Durability is greatly underappreciated in product design these days. As a bonus, if the c-75s will rock out forever maybe you can get people to delay their c85 orders so that you can get some sleep! :)
  2. c85 AND John's? With that level of cheating you might as well load up on 'roids as well! :) But seriously, CONGRATULATIONS!
  3. Cannot disagree more. If women were completely naked at these events, they would still deserve the maximum protection against predators that we can manage.
  4. Private message sent. I've actually coached the kid in the profile picture in triple jump (and very briefly in high jump), and gave her "coach's speech" at her (virtual) senior banquet. Small world.
  5. To answer the rest of your question: I doubt there is a point where a new ski is a better performance-improving investment than working with a good coach, unless the ski has completely broken down. At 32/-15, that should take at least a decade. Of course, new skis are FUN. Don't forget entertainment has real value.
  6. Not a close call. Literally the only reason to buy a c85 right now is to evilly laugh at poor Adam Caldwell trying to build skis fast enough to meet demand after @Horton's review. But the real answer is: Go to Trophy Lakes and learn from the c85 builder himself!
  7. I'm not the one to help you on this, but I'm pretty sure that anyone who can help you is gonna need to see some video.
  8. @mlange I think you are misunderstanding something, and I suggest a video (in a separate thread) to get some directed feedback. It should be impossible to do what I mean by hips up while still having your weight on your back foot. But I have seen so many people do "creative" interpretations of "hips up," that I don't even teach the concept any more.
  9. @mrpreuss I'm not sure you're wrong, but I am sure that I -- and I think most of us -- don't know what you're suggesting. Just thinking something during the transition is unlikely to do anything -- at least for me. What exactly are you suggesting someone do? Have you ever coached someone on this and seen them improve? If so, what specific instructions clicked with them? If not, you may well have discovered something very important, but I don't think have figured out how to communicate it yet.
  10. @Vernon Reeve Many of us have been calling for a 10m line for years. It makes sense. One of the first times it was brought up was in this thread (that started out a bit insane but got better): https://www.ballofspray.com/forum#/discussion/13897/its-time-to-change-the-rope-lengths @BraceMaker I don't think we want any rule that incentivizes performing worse intentionally, which that one would so that you can get the advantage of going later in a future more important tournament.
  11. @BraceMaker Did you say tracks above the water? I'm not grasping how that could be practically done without something in the skier's way. The tracks obviously need to be at least 10 ft up, but then you need something thohold them up which I think has to be a very large stucture to make that span and also be rigid enough. Btw, underwater tracks also have to be at least a couple of feet down so you can't hit them in a crash, and I think that drives up the cost there as well. Possible: yes. Happening soon: Doubt it. Unless Elon Musk is a slalom skier.
  12. Men can ski no longer than 12m. Women can ski no longer than 13m. As a high jumper and pole vaulter and waterskier, I get the need to have some "bars" that you can complete easily to get into the groove. But think about this: Nate's typical tournament round is equal to what many clubs set as their maximum number of passes for a practice set: 6. (I didn't quite believe it either. Count 'em up.) To have pro skiing, when there is a tie-break between being friendly to peak performance vs. The Show, the show should usually win. Maybe there are compelling reasons not to impose the limits I'm suggesting, but as we are entering into a new era of webcast pro skiing, it seems worth considering.
  13. Congrats @DaveD! You've just qualified for the special price for first-set-PB-getters! $3k :) (Everyone should be glad that the Adams don't listen to my advice on pricing...)
  14. @OldboyII With Denali such a small company, I think it's more like "Is there a price increase so that they can meet demand after all of these positive reviews?" :)
  15. Looks like @Paul_Dee54 needs to make some updates to his BoS profile! :)
  16. Am I the only one who is kinda bummed that I have no use for this gadget? It is just so ingenious and so well executed! I feel bad to not be explicitly supporting this kind of innovation!
  17. @DW Just because you know for a fact that the lucky bathing suit has nothing to do with it doesn't mean you'd be dumb enough to risk not wearing the lucky bathing suit!!
  18. I demand purple videos! :) Whoops -- just found one on the "onside" thread. Thanks.
  19. I'm having trouble finding who won skier of the day. I would have hoped that would be easier to locate -- or possibly I'm just being very dumb.
  20. It seems a lot of people are assuming HP is the controlling effect. I seriously doubt that matters at all, because we have way too much power anyhow. But power isn't the question in my mind. The question is timing. If the ZO system experiences even 10s of milliseconds of faster or slower response, that could certainly affect the skier. So I think anybody who is offering a "disproof" needs to drill into way more than just horsepower. Personally, I am too bad of a skier for this to matter and FAR too cheap of a person to buy premium to help my performance anyhow. BUT from now on I'll be bringing 93 in cans when looking to scam a ride, because the person whose boat it is might care and my sole goal is to be welcomed back!!
  21. @JackQ If it comes up tails, you might as well just stay on the dock!
  22. @Stevie Boy Answered in the first post of this thread.
  23. Grumpy Old White Men Rule! But seriously, Horton is dead right about making things FUN if you want to grow.
  24. Your weight is almost 100% on your rear foot. This will make it impossible to progress in the slalom course, so if that is your goal, I wouldn't think about anything else until fixing that. In all honesty, I would try switching which foot is forward. This will feel terrible, but if video shows that it causes you to use your (new) front foot, then it may save you a LOT of frustration in the future to just bite the bullet now. Barring that, or in addition to that, spend some time skiing with only your front foot. With you rear foot not even attached, you'll have to weight the front foot and learn to balance and steer with it.
