  1. We have had a total weed kill in one of our lakes and I am trying to figure out what has happened. We have two lakes that are not connected that are both stocked with grass carp. We have coontail weeds which the grass carp do not eat very well. We also have cooler water and only reach 80 degrees for a short time in the summer. Right now we are in the low to mid 70’s. For the last five years our fish have maintained the weeds but we still have had a thick two foot blanket on the bottom. This year our north/south lake had the usual two foot blanket of weeds. When we worked on the course in May, it was hard to find the anchors due to the weeds. In early July, the weeds disappeared – almost overnight. The lake has been a diarrhea brown color since and does not appear to be from sediment on the bottom. We have always had clear water and this water does not clear up even over night after settling. The color is in patches too. One other factor is we spot spray the shorelines with just glyphosate and 2-4-D. I did not start spraying the shoreline until late June and we have had very little rain since. The spaying on the lake with the weed kill has been very minimal. I am pretty sure it is not the cause but do not want to leave any possible factors out. Our water supply comes from deep wells. One deep well goes into both lakes and the other one goes just into the lake with the where the weed kill has happened. We have a shallow well that is close to our septic tank. That water was tested last year and it was not too far out of the norm. Also, the septic tank was pumped in 2013. The only time I have ever seen a weed kill like this is when a few beers were consumed and four times the chemicals were used that were supposed to be put in. This was about 10 years ago and we had a complete weed kill at that time. Right after that we had a good wind storm and the weeds were totally pulverized. After that the water was the same diarrhea brown for the rest of the year. To my knowledge, no weed killer has been used this year. Have you ever seen this before? It is a little alarming not to mention our grass carp do not have anything to eat. I have been bringing out my grass clipping from home which they come to the shore and eat immediately. I am guessing it is not enough for them to survive on. Thanks in advance for your replies and input.
  2. Would like to try a pair of these gloves and curious how the sizing compares to the HO Tail 41's? Also, does anyone use kevlar liners with them?
  3. I have used a Valeo for years. I bought it at my local water ski shop but it looks like you can now also get them on Amazon. I believe it is the classic weight lifting belt. They come in different widths. I believe mine is a 4" or 5" wide.
  4. Masterline also makes a nice high quality rope with the additional mid-loops. They call it "The Progressor Mainline."
  5. @Keithbrewer, Hey Keith, is there any problem irrigating trees from lake water that has been colored with SensiPro? If not, is there any waiting period after you add the product before you irrigate? Thanks
  6. @Marco, thanks for the info. I am thinking another way to disperse it might be out the back of a canoe. Any thoughts on that? By the way, would you say the dye has any effect on your water temperature?
  7. Found this tread this morning after reading it a couple of years ago. I am checking into the dye for a friend who is just filling his lakes for the first time. I e-mailed Keith for more information and he quickly responded back answering all my questions. Absolutely great customer service. I am curious how it is working for everyone two years later @AggieSkier, @MrJones, @Jdarwin, @Marco, @Waterskigirl ? What are your lake sizes and how much are you now using? How often do you have to add more product and how much? What is your water source and do any of you pump quite a bit of water? Exactly how are you applying it from your boat? How do you judge how much to pour as you are going down the lake? Big thanks in advance for answering my questions. When I checked into using Aqua Shade years ago for a big weed problem at our lake, it was not even an option due to the cost. This seems almost a no brainier due to the reasonable cost. It also appears that the company has great customer service.
  8. @PAskier, I saw the same thing last year with a Helix. I am guessing it is coming off the ski verses the plate? I think it is the surface of the ski. From what I saw, the dual lock will just not stick to the surface of a Helix. Would be interested to hear of anyone who has made it work.
  9. A few years ago I had a severe case of "tennis elbow". It was so bad that someone once grabbed me by the elbow and I passed out. The first and most important thing is to get the inflammation down. I was able to do it with taking IBU for several weeks solid. I also started taking glucosamine. I believe it was a combination of these two things and switching to a slightly bent handle which got rid of the problem. Feel fortunate it has never came back.
  10. @JC_McCavit have you looked at the Shelby 1500 lb at Overton's? It looks close. Here it is on Shelby's website. They do not list a conversion model from yours but still might want to try contacting them. http://shelbyindustries.com/1500-swivel-jack-diamond-wheel-grease-fitting-bolton-zinc-boxed-p-187.html
  11. @nate93 Yes, I have a few of them in each color and size. They have bungees to tighten them up so they stay on. Here is a link to the ad I have on Ski-It-Again that has more information. http://ski-it-again.com/php/skiitagain.php?endless=summer&topic=Search&category=Wet_Suit&postid=25860
  12. @RalphLee I need an extra small or about a men's size 7. Thanks for the suggestion.
  13. I am trying to find Fluid Motion liners sold in the US. Does anyone know if Paul Jager is still selling them? I could not find his website. Thanks in advance for your help.
  14. @brady, did you forget the women's groups?
  15. Here is a link to the scores for day one. awsawest.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/14W998CS.htm
  16. In my opinion, the Helix is faster cross course and it even turns a little tighter and quicker than the Quest. I do think the Quest crosses the wakes a little better. Both of the skis are stable and excellent turning skis.
  17. Just looking on Google Maps and wondering which airport is best to fly into for National's? Looks like the site is right between San Antonio and Austin. What are things to consider when flying into either airport? Which is the best for rental car deals and easier to get in and out? How much further is Houston Hobby? Thanks in advance for your reply.
  18. I second @richarddoane with the Eagle One spray wax. I first heard about the spray wax technique from Scott Larson. It was the absolute best tip ever. We dilute it 50/50 with soft water and it works great. We have extremely hard water so we use a wax sponge that is netted on one side to do the first wiping off of the wax. The second person goes by with a towel. We have it down where we can completely wipe down the boat in maybe five minutes. I know a lot of people are anti Walmart but you can buy Eagle 1 at Walmart.... at least in Utah. The last time I bought it which was a few months ago, it was in the $4 to $5 range per bottle.
  19. @nate93, I had a bunch of beanies that I sold to baller's and ski friends. They are neoprene and have a bungee cord so you can tighten them as much as you need. I have some of the smaller size left which fits most adults. The small size just does not have as much fabric to fold up over your ears. If you head measurement is around 22" or under, they will fit. I have them on ski-it-again under wetsuits if you want to look. As a side note, I do this just for fun and to get deals for my baller ski friends.
  20. He keeps the ski in the water and has very little tip rise. He also has very good handle control and does not start his reach until he has switched edges and is well into the turn. In other words, it looks like he holds on with both hands as long as he possibly can.
  21. @Brewski, thanks. I will check with HO on Monday. @Alpjr, good idea too. I will also check with Brenda. If she will not sell them, maybe she will let me know where to get them.
  22. Wondering if anyone knows where you can buy actual ARS end caps? I have checked with Masterline and US Gear. They have ones that will "accommodate" an ARS tie but they are pretty difficult, if not impossible, to get over the end of the handle core. I would love to find the exact ones shown in this photo. Thanks in advance for your help.
  23. @wish, great ideas. Hearing an announcer say "the rope is now only 34' long" for -41 would make much more sense to the general public. Skiers would have to do a little math if the -41 was not announced but we are not the ones who's interest needs to be kept. I also really like your side by side skiing idea. It would seem more of a competitive sport and everyone would know right then who won that segment and is moving on. Good thoughts. Hopefully they will be considered for this event and others. Someone just needs to figure out how the keep the crowds interest during the down time and outside of the 16 seconds of actual course skiing for slalom. Maybe on the fly automatic line shorting and more of an actual skiers endurance competition?
  24. @scarletarrow - great poll. Interesting to see the results.
