  1. @Broussard clarification. Malibu stopped using Indmar in the TXi after 2015 but were still putting Indmar Ford 6.2L blocks in boats up until 2019. I think even a couple 2020s might have gotten those engines due to GM strike.
  2. @Lars @Broussard Malibu last used Indmar in the TXi in 2015. 2016 to 2019 were Crusader. 2020 on are Malibu's own marinization (I prefer marinated) 5.3 or 6.2.
  3. I skied behind a SN 200 with a Gen5 motor last weekend. Big difference between that and the last ZO boat I skied, which was a CP with a ridiculous amount of hours on a 5.7. I agree @Dano
  4. @jpwhit You should really try a boat with PP version 9.x and Zbox. You can hammer the throttle to WOT and it'll settle in nearly as fast as a ZO boat, especially if you set the reaction time (Kx) to ++ setting. The only instance in which I could see it being a problem is if you get to set speed, then turn sharply before entering the course like @BrennanKMN describes. If you wait until you're mostly straightened out to throttle up, v9.x settles in very very quickly and overshoots by maybe 1 MPH max with a ham-fisted driver.
  5. Faster servo is the biggest thing. In a DBW boat, the throttle opening is still controlled by a servo motor in the electronic throttle body, it's just much more integrated and faster-acting than the servo-cable setup. Software is the next biggest thing. ZO can get a pretty accurate mapping of RPM vs throttle opening vs desired boat speed and hit its mark dead-on every time. It can know precisely what percentage to open or close the throttle for the desired effect. PerfectPass has to approximate this.
  6. Bringing this back up... I'm growing pretty frustrated with the RTP. It's just too easy for my heel to slide around, which makes me default to a defensive position, which tends to end my ski ride early. I have a big foot and need to kick in so not sure if HRT is going to work for me. I'm thinking of ditching the fattie Boa ARTP and going to a rubber with a molded heel cup to lock my heel into so I can't slide it laterally. This spring I was feeling pretty sure I'd run 32 at least once this summer. Since changing I've only gotten into 28 two or three times. Kindof a lost year for me. :(
  7. All these comments are strange to me. I'm on the big end of my ski size at 250 lbs. All my best scores are in water under 75f. The ski rides up higher so I get the benefit of feeling what normal size people do at warmer temps. I guess it makes sense normies would start blowing the tail when it gets colder. :)
  8. PP made a DBW version around that time also.
  9. I'm skiing on the prototype rope and I really like it. Best feel of any rope I've ever skied out of the box. At 250+ lbs, and starting at 22 off, the stiffer rope is a must-have for feeling connected to the boat at all spots on the course.
  10. @Jody_Seal these days, I agree. My dad has an '01 Sunsetter VLX V drive on the slalom hull that has a shockingly good slalom wake at 32 MPH and up, and it can be set up to surf fairly well... but nobody makes anything close to that anymore. Everything has 6' of freeboard and hundreds of pounds of unnecessary stuff inside.
  11. someone out west needs to buy this. All it needs is PerfectPass, and maybe a heater. I wish they still made boats that beautiful. None of the newer DDs can hold a candle looks-wise to the early '00's Malibu DDs or the various PS 197s. https://www.onlyinboards.com/2001-Malibu-Sunsetter-LXi-for-sale-Thousand-Oaks-California-146620.aspx

  13. For you guys who've had these replacements done, what was your diagnosis? I'm 43 and dealing with anterior and posterior labral tears and inflammation from a cam impingement that's causing some minor OA. I've switched to getting up dragging a leg and kicking in which has made a huge difference in skiing with pain (there is no pain anymore), but I notice the pain if I spend too much time in the office chair, if I sleep on my right side too long, etc. Occasionally I'll step or turn wrong when it's angry and the pain is immediate and sharp. I don't need replacement, but rehab from labral repairs sucks and docs say avoid if you can.

  15. Dane Mechler and Giannina Bonnemann just got married. Might check their Instagrams for ski-related wedding pics. Same with Steve Island and Elizabeth Montavon.

  17. 60 lb of sand is like 3 bucks at Home Depot. Wrap it up in a heavy trash bag then put it in a cheap duffel with handles. I use one of those in stationary location and lead weight for fine tuning. Balance is important with the OffCourse.

  19. For someone who says boats are like girlfriends, you've been going steady with this one for a while. Guess the pandemic pricing ended your dating life. Happens to us all... :(
