  1. Drive straight when setting. Alignment can be challenging if u set crooked. Anchoring can be the hard psrt tightening. EZ slalom are very nice and boat friendly and easy to put together.
  2. 30 mph max speed on wide ride ski (12 inches min) with turn and burn option. Turn and burn option where you fail. One boat judge no appointed judges, one assistant scorer, one regular driver. Anyone with bachelor degree in medical field with cpr certification can safety.
  3. I skied 36 today did we gain any membership?
  4. Is zero base scoring for a people to improve thier score or grow membership??? It appears to me a way to gain an advantage.
  5. I am a mid pack skier on the bubble to make nationals, I need one more buoy. Going 36 I believe I can make the cut, but only if other M-5 skiers choose to stay at 34. No I do not want to go 36 because of risk of injury. Why are we not focusing the real problems of loosing membership. I listed problems and couple ideas earlier in this thread and nobody has mentioned any of them. The Insurance issue is the biggest loss of membership. We are making more rules when we should be focusing on relaxing rules in class c. How can we solve problems when we cannot identify the problem. At my club I have skied with college kids for 20 years.. This is the first I have heard of anyone quitting because they wanted to cut line before max speed. Nor have I heard it from any juniors. I can tell you why college kids leave the sport but I am not important.
  6. @MillerTime38 @JeffSurdej @Triplett @Klinger Bottom line you want growth. Here are my 5 suggestions. 1. Wide ride division 30 mph max 12 inch wide ski for all divisions. Sell a lot skis and create a fun short line experience. I would think a ski sponsor would like to pick this division up for Nationals. Your talking a lot skis being sold and new designs. This opens a whole new market. 2. Insurance caused a big drop in AWSA membership. Many clubs chose other Ins. which did not require AWSA membership. AWSA Ins. has to many loop holes such as safety on site, sanctioned practice and not competitive rates. 3. Make it so my club can put on a C slalom tournament. We do not have enough appointed judges. We have a regular driver, regular slalom judge, several assistant judges,zo boat, surveyed course. Under present rules we don't have enough.WHY? 4. Flexible sanction rules No penalty rule. Calm on Saturday windy on Sunday oh but we sanctioned for Sunday. Partly the fault of sanctioner, but get my jist I should be able to say hey wind was calm last weekend we had a Class C tourney here is scores and money. 5. Turn and Burn you do not have to return to the original starting point. The starting point floats to where you failed. This eliminates all that time having to return to the original starting point.
  7. Why not create a 30 mph division in each age group. Sponsors will sell some wide rides. INT had this division called the wide ride. It was alot of fun.
  8. @Triplett Only people that can choose are M3 and up. If it is such a fair thing then why cannot all divisions do it.
  9. @Chad_Scott totaly agree with you on 34 mph skiers. I disagee it is good for juniors for many reasons. If all this passes why would it not be allowed for all divisions to increeas speed. It appears m3 and up have choices to improve thier score. My son can run the same at 36 or 34. Why would he not be able to gain the 6 buoys by going 36. I disagree with either rule. It makes no sense and messes up long standing records.
  10. The AWSA needs to focus there resources on these college kids. Not rule changes like zero base scoring and level 10. But easing rules for class C and turn and burn. This would create more tournaments and speed tournaments up. This equates to more revenue for clubs, water time on private sites for those that do not have it and less stress on volunteers. Here in the Midwest scholarships are not available, funds have been cut and teams have been kicked off sites. Sayings that some teams have grown some not. It all came down to leadership. I saw Paul and Cole take MoState a little known college to Nationals. They lead by example and hard work keeping the lake owner happy being evolved in tournaments judging and driving. Eric & his group lead MU out of the cellar by the same leadership. Abbe, Dillon & Katie did the same at KU. But once those leaders left the entitlement kids took over and back to the cellar they will go. I feel these new rule changes are more for the entitlement crowd Not growth of our sport. Chet said this very well in another thread (level10). The history of our sport is in jeopardy by these new rules changes. With them the elite will have no drive to be the best they can be. Long standing records that these elite athletes are chasing will be demolished by these rule changes. I myself will never compete for top spot not even in my own state with very few skiers. But when I hit a 90 point ride it makes me very happy. With level 10 I can gain 6 buoys easily. Now my life long goal of 90 point rides is gone my bar has been lowered. Wake up AWSA these new rules will not grow the sport. Look at easing rules on class C and help these college kids with leadership and resources. One more thing why are all these kids from out of country getting our scholarships?

  12. College kids are the future. If they are serios about skiing they need to choose there spouses accordingly. Very difficult to raise kids, go to the lake if you are alone in the dog house. Huge sacrifices have to be made. But a life of skiing with your family is priceless. I have not seen much commitment from college kids that have passed thru mokan. The ones that have are doing well and I am very proud of. Most complain and make excuses and spend their resources elsewhere. Lots kids raised on private sites do not realize what they have. Alot of us have made portibles skiid behind outboards for a chance to ski a course and be apart of a private site. We appreciate what we have. It is a love for skiing. No rule changes will help only commitment and choices by them. We that have done this need to be open to new membership. But they need to work for it and not expect a silver platter.

  14. @mattP we have already made nationals a festival by letting people qualify 3 event overall. Look at the rankings list of people that qualify tricking and jumping. To me Nationals is a place for elite skiing not side slides & 40 foot jumps. Slalom is the most competitive but overlooked in the Midwest Region. I have kids that are one event slalom. They have brought home National metals, Regional metals and best slalom skier in their division. Yet cannot make the Midwest Junior Team because they do not 3 event. To the point of the thread the cutoff for jump and trick are way to easy killing the ability to have elite skiing at Nationals. Embarrassing watching old men jump 40 foot and kids with 1000 dollar skis doing side slides. The Rankings list is great but should NOT grade on a curve when the curve dips below par.
  15. @JeffSurdej If more attendance is what you want then let everyone ski Regional /Nationals with no qualification. You can always bring qualification back if needed. Not sure this will help but if anyone wants to go they can. I will count for one that would attend nationals.
  16. I thought the witch hunt thread was the biggest news I have Heard for gossip anywho.
  17. Anybody have information on whitewater rafting in the area.
  18. What is the minimum ramp height for a legal score in a class C tourney B-2 & G-2?
  19. Thanks @skiinxs finally someone that has hosted tournaments and spent time in the boat that knows how to run an efficient tourney. @ ToddL dude I have read your lengthy post about cameras and all this technical crap to host a class c tourney, Remember volunteers make all this happen. Low budget clubs cannot play your high dollar games. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe you were the one crying about B-3 having to ski 36 mph, Now that rule change along with no gate is what @Bry would be talking about (stupid rule changes).
  20. Problem is: Setting at opposite end of starting point. Figure in boat wait timer, going back thru course then setting again - wait timer again, somebody falls down going back thru or misses second up. Turn and burn is to speed things up not slow them down. I am not a fan of turn and burn and very rarely see it help a skier. Purpose is to save time. Having to go back in forth does not save time when rules state you have to start at the same point.
  21. Having to return to the orignal starting point does not save time---due to setting at each end. purposed: Start your turn burn pass at end you finish. Yes you could get head wind pass but you still are in jeopardy. Nothing different than opting up for any wind/glare advantage. This would speed things up.
