  1. I drove the 21 in the BOSCP tournament this weekend and it was a pleasure. Definitely tracks tighter than the 20 yet still easy to put the boat right where you want it. I felt like I was able to give everyone a great ride. I also appreciated how quiet it is at idle and at speed.
  2. Cool idea and I would be interested to try it. However, once I started focusing on height, I quit thinking about width. Especially at zero. On my pull out, I am trying to get high on the boat as my objective, which results in width. When I focused on width only, I typically did not get high enough on the boat, and did not have enough space to get rotated and accelerate into the first wake. I got sick of running out of room so I got higher and consequently wider. Height on the boat is fairly easy to see from the skiers perspective. But these extra marker buoys would also be easy to see if width was the focus. Anyone got a picture?
  3. I absolutely can tell you the boat went into full reverse. I got a rope shot into the boat and around my neck this summer. Perfect end course view of the whole thing. The following few steps happens in about 3 seconds after the skier shot the rope. I first dropped the boat into neutral and the bow dropped a few inches. I dropped it into reverse will still going about 30mph and the bow dropped a few more inches. I then throttled in reverse and turned the boat into a submarine. No one hurt and the boat was fine, other than wet. It was semi panic, but I wanted to stop the boat at all costs. I also though the boat had slowed down to 10-15mph or so and reverse would be ok. I misjudged that.
  4. BOSCP is a really fun tournament. Not just a plug for Horton, it’s really fun and actually has little to do with Horton. Great hosts, great site, fun mix of people, interesting format (ok, that’s mostly Horton) and overall a great time. I look forward to it every year.
  5. @AdamCord said “How much fun would it be to have an event for ANYONE over 35 skiing 55k? CP, Asher, Tgas, Caldwell, Parsons, TW, Trent, and on and on. Would be a blast.” Yes, that would be cool. I hope someone does it and gets a decent field to make it a great event. I am optimistic but unconvinced on both. That said, I would love to ski in it and be happy to have my ass handed to me by everyone mentioned above.
  6. There are many top skiers mentioned in this thread the authors assumed are excluded, but are totally eligible per the rules. These top skiers have chosen not to attend, they were not excluded by the rules. Many ex pros are not interested in competing this sort of event, yet others like Rodgers and Favret are. To each their own. Bottom line, if Terry Winters or Chris Parish showed up and destroyed the field, it would wreck the event for the participant field it was intended for. Some separation is important. Some wanted the Big Dawg to be the “old guys pro tour”, but most did not. But that is a different animal than what the event organizers set out to do here. Apples and Oranges.
  7. Awesome start to the list! Already looking forward to it.
  8. Maybe Bart should have called it the “Bart Invitational” instead. All this chatter just because it says “Elite” in the event name? Can anyone confirm there was a skier that wants to go, but is excluded by the rules? Who? Or is this just an arbitrary debate?
  9. Bart has had ideas for years about how we could improve on the Big Dawg or do something different. He has put a lot of thought into it and this year he is actually doing it. Not easy to put something like this together in your spare time. If you like it and are eligible per the rules then sign up. If you think the rules should be different, then have your own event and run it how ever you like. I originally signed up and wish I could go, but can’t for non skiing reasons. The field is really strong and I hear Lake 38 puts on incredible events so I am sure I will be missing out. Good for Bart and Marc Shaw for getting this all lined up. I hope they have a great event and do another in the future so I can come and throw down with the boys.
  10. I have the pleasure of seeing Terry at local tournaments and skiing with him when I can. His deep understanding of our sport combined with his ability to simplify it and give you a thought that you can execute on makes him one of my all time favorite coaches. I skied with him last Wed and helped me breakthrough some limitations in my skiing. That made it so much more fun to ski now! Ski with him any way you can. In person or via web. So worth it.
  11. @MarkM why Sept only? It’s only a few days past end of September.
  12. I use the ballast all the time. I also relocated the pump to behind the passenger seat so it’s easier to change the impeller.
  13. @ColeGiacopuzzi I Totally agree with Rossi and focus on those 4 things. I add on tournament day there is a 5th: everything else not on that list and not within your control. The boat, the rope, the conditions, Etc. The things you may choose to tune out or to specifically adapt too. Depends on the day and the skier. Mental Equipment Physical Technique Other stuff out of your control on tournament days
  14. I broke my front ankle twice in a double hard shell set up that did not release. I used that system for 3 years and tossed it in the trash after the second ankle brake. Been running reflex and rear rubber ever since. It’s now been 15 years and and more than 100 full passes at 39. Zero ankle injuries, zero one foot in and one foot outs and one prerelease which was my fault. There are a few reasonable options. Do your homework and make your own decisions.
  15. Yikes. I always use the same tape for boot placement.
  16. Will told me that they addressed the fuel gauge set up in the 21 and will be no issue going forward. Another less discussed upgrade is the redesign of the ballast system which is a big improvement. We bought one of the last 2020 ProStars and love it. These two small issues above, as well as the engine box fan which we unplugged, were our only complaints. Again, super happy with the 2020. This said, I can’t wait to check out the 21!
  17. I would research the 21 set up and see if you can put that in. The prior reversible system leaks out when full. The 21 set up uses an improved pump configuration.
  18. Yep, I am going back to this as well. Although it’s unlikely and there is risk everywhere, these guards eliminate the risk of a head through.
  19. From a potentially irrelevant perspective to officiating, it is a miss. But the question I always ask is what could the event judges see from their seats with whatever tech they had?
  20. We use a masterline rope keeper on the pylon below the orbit. The shock tube is clipped with a carabiner to the Masterline rope keeper. Then the rope goes to the orbit.
  21. @jhughes makes an interesting point. The answer depends on your situation. Yes, if you don’t have anyone to ski with and want a ride, you may not be picky at all. But like others are saying, with a regular crew it’s ok to have expectations. For me, mainly be fun to ski with. The social part is so important and should be fun! No matter what level driver you are, at least show me you care and are trying to give a good ride. Otherwise add value however you can and pay your way and we will be good.
  22. @MISkier I would be curious to know what sequence of events led to that photo. I can’t imagine a scenario to get myself there!
  23. This looks great. I have end course running all the time and frequently review my driving at the end of a set. But having it at the end of the lake and having it measured would be a huge improvement. I think this can really help aspiring drivers get in the right ball park quickly. Not sure what the implications are for tournaments. We currently have very rare re-rides based on boat path but this could change that quickly
