  1. @adamhcaldwell unfair. There were no last minute rule changes that prevented you from coming. And you are elidgible. I hope you have a good event at Trophy.
  2. About 15 spots left in CA. It will fill up. Is @adamcord birthday before July 13? If so, bring the Denali and join us. @adamhcaldwell what are you doing that weekend??
  3. On the 69”, the math is simple. It costs circa $5-10k to set up the tools, maybe more these days. When you look at a low number of sales for the 68” and even lower for 69” it just doesn’t work out. You might think these markets are huge but if D3 had a 69” they may not sell 10 of them.
  4. After my ski, my Camaro suits are my favorite piece of gear. I have two fulls and two 3/4 suits I use the full suits in water in the 50s and 3/4 in the 60s. They are impossibly flexible and warm.
  5. I made a warranty claim a few years ago for a few seams that opened up and received excellent support - new suit. Last year I had a zipper break on a new suit and received a new suit under warranty. I realize the point made in this thread is that may be changing but I have no such experience yet. I have Oneill suits as well and they do hold up better. They last until the neoprene drys out and even then they are still in one piece, just not as flexible and warm. I still use Camaro suits because they are warm and it’s like I am not wearing a suit. No restriction.
  6. @drago over the past 15 yrs I have heard of a few pro skier discussions to do exactly that: define rules they want for their events. For that to happen a) they have to follow through and b) it would be interesting how the sponsors/officials/LOCs respond. Possible outcomes include anything from “great ideas, let’s do it” to “go host your own events then”.
  7. @rockdog the reason to have video is to be able to review calls, exactly has happened with Nate. The officials could have agreed they would run the event without video and calls are made in real time only. Sounds like this was the case. But had there been review they would have the opportunity to review calls, regardless of the type of sanction, course qualification or anything like that.
  8. @Horton, I totally agree, there should be video review available at events like Moomba. This said, I don't know what the event officials would say as to why there wasn't. There are so many skiers that deserve a name sake to running over a buoy before me. If "Bishop the Ball" sticks I will find an appropriate way to get you back!
  9. @horton I agree, we should give Nate a pass on whether he “knew”. But it was specifically raised in Episode 18 so why a separate topic? I think the key question is what if anything are we going to do following the issue at Moomba? Complaining and speculating won’t help. What if anything should/will change? How do we do that? One thing that could be reviewed is making it possible for an athelete to protest their score down. It could be a simple rule change, but needs some thought and a clear proposal needs made to the rules committees. Perhaps Other rule changes could be proposed (but I have no suggestions here) Trent mentioned where addition training or reviews could be employed. We could add more technology (not sure that’s the answer, yet) We could change the buoys (ya right) Just saying what if anything could we or should we do?
  10. Question: if a skier knows they got a score that is wrong, do our rules allow them to protest their score down? There are a few good discusssion points related to Episode 18, but one is what does an athlete do if they KNOW the score is wrong in their favor? If a skier goes to the judges and confirms they believe their score is higher than they deserve, can the judges make that change within our rules? Maybe some one knows but I will look when I get a chance. This came up a few years ago at Nationals and when I looked into it I wasn’t convinced. I suppose the review request process for a call could be the same if you think you didn’t get the call you deserved or if you got more than you deserved? I am sure there are other examples, but Pro Tennis comes to mind. We love it when a player acknowledges a call not in their favor. We could do that here as well. I am sure most people agree that if you aren’t sure, you leave it to the judges. But if you are sure, then what?
  11. In the case of the event and situation in this thread, reviews were allowed and employed. In this case the review could not justify an over turn of the call on the water, 4.5. The judges didn’t have access to Hortons pics In the case of Moomba, I don’t know what the review policy was. I do think at that sort of event there should be reviews even if it “impacts the show”. It can be done quickly even with the most crude gear. Getting the call right is important to the show, and of course the athletes.
  12. @ALPJr the handle is not broken. Must be @horton bad photoshop skills. After he edited to made it look like I missed 5 ball, he screwed up the handle somehow. But in all seriousness, that handle did not break and I went on to use it the next round and beyond.
  13. I think we will see an increasing number of restoration projects. Take the $15k Jody estimated for ZO drive train (I recently paid similar) add a few grand for all steering and running gear, a few more grand for interior and for around $20k you can restore a boat and have ZO and a modern engine. Sure, you won’t have the latest tournament hulls but for 1/2 to a 1/3 to cost of a current promo it’s a reasonable option for many of us.
  14. Define my cross training program and goals In writing and keep to the plan. I always get the water time I need and make good use of it. Where I keep failing is staying with the off water program during the season. Not this year.
  15. Enjoyed watching that. Wade laughing during his sketchy 35. Mapple body slide and recovery. Good stuff. This was the scene when I was getting into skiing.
  16. @Horton I am not sure we need to do anything about it, other than continue encourage our officials to know the rules (I don’t believe this is an issue) and make sure our officials have access to direct view and quality video and review if used. Are we going to add more technology? Not in the short term. Maybe sooner we than we think we can have drones hovering over every buoy or use tracking technology measure the distance between skis and buoys. The latter is the case in nearly all top tier pro sports but for now, that is too complicated and expensive for waterskiing. Not sure any rule changes would help this particular situation. As someone said above, we will have some human error.
  17. In said CA ProAm vs Matt the light was terrible for the skiers and judges. The call on the water was 4.5 and the video review was inconclusive, so my score was 4.5. I knew I hit it, could not see it, did not know if I got around it and would not have protested had they scored me 4. Horton later shares an irrelevant pic from the bushes that if it were the basis for the officials, my score would have been 4. To this day I hope Matt trusts me that I believed I could have gotten it and left it to the judges. As a skier, we often have to leave it to the judges. As skiers, fans and officials we all want to trust that the officials are qualified and are doing the best job they can. I know this was the case at the ProAm and would expect the same for world class event like Moomba. If the call on the water was 2, and the video available to the officials was inconclusive then the 2 stands. Many folks in this thread have sat in those hot seats and know what’s it’s like to make those calls. It’s a lot easier from the bushes with different angles and after the fact from keyboards!
  18. The only views that are relevant are those available to the officials during the event.
  19. The webcast is so much better! Nice work on what looks like another great event, that I can watch this year and really appreciate it. Nice move by Natique to run the Dewalt colored boats. Take care of those sponsors!
  20. Cold water skis differently. I won’t bother trying to justify it with physics and engineering (not sure I could anyway) but as an athlete I notice. Especially below about 55. But don’t miss out on other factors mentioned above. Cold air and body temp impacts your skiing. Certainly having a dry suit on makes it harder. Every spring when I get back down to my shorts and a top I immediately notice an improvement in exactly the same water temp. Short answer, I think water time is more critical. Say you were in FL regularly skiing 80 degree water and flew to Vancouver to ski with Zappy and took a ride in 48 degree water. Another skier gets off the couch in Vancouver and flys to catch their first ride of the season in FL. Who will have a better set?
  21. I often end up customizing to my taste. Nice work. That’s much better
  22. My season started today, March 2. NorCal: 60 air and high 50 water.
  23. @BraceMaker I dont recall. It was more the 5 yrs ago. It was the latest version available at the time and PP was still stumped
  24. I had a 2000 Malibu LX and never got Stargazer working properly, despite many conversations with Gary at PP and many experiments. Excellent customer support. After much effort, PP essentially said there are some bugs In some boats they can’t fix and offered my money back. The issue I had was the boat speed would change in the course. We messed with all the settings trying to help the boat settle and maintain speed but it was never right. It may come into the course at the right speed and then slow down or speed up in the course. It would usually get a good end time but the speed change could be felt from the drivers seat and at the end of the rope. It works very well in other boats and closes the gap somewhat in Classic vs ZO. But I just ran Classic until I upgraded to a ZO boat.
