  1. One of the facts everyone needs to consider when towing trailers above the GCWR of your tow vehicle is that, god forbid your in an accident, adjusters will look for and likely deny responsibility for coverage no matter the cause of the accident. Everyone should look up their weight rating and be aware if they are legal or not. I think comp boats are a pretty well known weight but you can check your actual weight at a truck stop. Some manufacturers of other types of boats really underestimate their weights for some reason. My 34' catamaran weighed 3500lbs more than the manufacturers listed weight. I had a friend that lost control of a cabin cruiser and overturned when he filled the boat with fuel and water at a gas station before he got to the lake. The rig was okay without the weight of the fuel and water.
  2. I really like all the Seadek and can tell that the engineering and design of the boat was centered on how we use the boats. The Seadek will age and go down hill with age no doubt but durability will be proportional to the care given to the boat. The way I take care of things it would last a lifetime. For the people out there who will give these boats no care it will go downhill pretty fast, but so would carpet or anything else. At least it can be easily replaced(low labor.)
  3. If you don't need to remove the lift every year a metal roof with thin gauge metal is easy. Alabamas waterski team did this instead of buying a new vinyl cover. It looked great was inexpensive and will last a long time.
  4. That's gonna leave a mark. Not sure that it is possible to fall harder than that.
  5. @Horton Just wait til later on this month when Goode releases their new top secret microprocessor controlled adjusting fin.
  6. Adam when do you expect the non Denali style fins to be delivered?
  7. @Live2ski I'm not talking about buying boat. Promo deal like Nautique's new deal. Make the colleges take the boat to the regular tournaments during the summer, do boat shows, lake demos, etc... You really can get a 6 or 9 month note for boats and just pay interest if you are forced to buy the traditional way. You would have to make sure that you could get a deal where you are not upside down.
  8. If I was a marketing person for the Boat Companies, I would have collegiate skiers be the promo team. Collegiate skiing is the shining star of the sport now. They need help and collegiate skiers will be the newest boat buyers. There would be risk of trashing the boat, but I think it would would work well.
  9. It looks like if you go by the current rules, skiers will only be able to use the tuners/gate in the boats tested configuration. If the rules are not modified for this situation, this would be the case. So everyone can relax and not have to worry about another decision.
  10. For the multiple selections of Hydrogate the rules would have to be changed. Drivers have to fully deploy the Hydrogate or completely disingage it. In between is against current rules.
  11. Mercury has been doing the turbo models for several years with great success. Hard to package with width increase. Your choice 1100, 1350, or 1550
  12. Impressive, lots of thought went into to it. I like the pursuit to fill in the trough, that is a big deal. Looks like it will make everything we do in the boat a little easier. I think I might buy a little stock in Seadek. No open bow apparently.
  13. I think that there is only more drag in cooler water for those parts of the ski which are submerged. There will be less drag on the ski itself(not fin and wing)because it will ride higher on the water(all performance boats are several mph faster in salt and cooler water.....for sure!) I believe that increased lift of the tail and corresponding increase of wet area of the tip of the ski is the most significant factor in the way our skis feel. For me decrease in wing angle, moving fin forward, decreasing depth help. I just try to survive with a good attitude til warmer temps arrive. Fun to play with these things though.
  14. ZR4 over the H5 every day of the week. I have heard of multiple failures of the GM direct injection engines in trucks. The problem is carbon build up on intake valves due to them not being "washed" by the fuel charge. This carbon build up eventually breaks off in significant sized pieces into the cylinders. I really do not know if this will translate into failures with the marine engines but certainly gives some reason for concern. Did not know that when we purchased our GMC with the 6.2.
  15. Just installed this JBL marine unit in my 63 Rayson Craft. Very nice unit. Has plenty of power with 4 6 inch Infinity speakers. I like the small size and not traditional rectangle shape. Is prewired for amps and remotes. Bluetooth and radio. Waterproof.
  16. I like a 13" handle because of 2 reasons. When in my load through the wakes, I like one hand on the trailing side of my hip/thigh and one on the leading side. A wider handle makes this more doable when your hands are spaced. I also think more length makes it less likely that you will miss grip. SAFETY. The thing I don't like about a 13 inch handle is that most will more easily fit over your head. Handle guards are a must. As someone who had a severe arm injury, I will tell you that getting caught in the handle can easily happen. Better an arm than a head. I recommended to the rules committee for it be a rule that a skiers handle not be able to fit over their head. The "genius" response from the risk managers was that this would give awsa more liability exposure...Ah the end of common sense.
  17. I took a video of it lifting, but I can't figure out how to load it.
  18. Well tried it and it seemed to work great. I just used 2 deep cycle 12 v batteries that I have in my garage. The motor started without hesitation. The battery cables did not heat nor did the inverter fans even had to come on. Was not even warm. I think I will initially do 3 batteries(may do 4 6v.) and do 1 300w solar panel all grounded and fused. I can add batteries and solar panels if I need them. They make some great charge controllers with remote battery monitors.
  19. Thanks for all the good advice. Leon I am not sure of the AMPs, I will find out Saturday Wayne the motors are about 300 dollars, the DC may be better. I think I will try the Jupiter inverter just for kicks Saturday. I know will not likely work but I will be the beta tester.
  20. Yes it is common. I had mine replaced by Miami Nautiques
  21. My electric motor is AC. I had a tired 2000w generator that wouldn't quite do the job lifting the boat. I have a 4000 watt generator that does the job easily. I did some research on the Jupiter. It is a modified sine wave, not a pure sine wave inverter. Supposed to deliver 3000 continuous and spikes to 5000. I have heard like Old Jeep said to go to a more high end inverter but they are about $1000 so is a big difference in cost. I always like to go higher quality in things. But I could buy the harbor freight and warranty it for 3 years for 3 times for the cost of the better one. Don't really know if the best would go 9 years to the break even point? The best are the more efficient pure sine wave units though.
  22. I am a harbor freight addict and I know that some of their stuff is junk, other not so bad. They have these products. A Jupiter 3000W inverter and solar panel. Thinking may not go wrong buying the inverter and 3 year warranty? They have a 5000 W that is a 100 bucks more?
  23. Anyone using solar power for their boat lift and dock? I am going to finish up my dock this Spring and I am trying to design a simple solar system to power my Aluminum Boat Cradles lift and have additional power for a few lights computers, etc. I was going to run electrical service down my lot but it is going to cost about 10k just to run the underground power plus the monthly costs. I am thinking about a system with a 3000W inverter, 3 deep cycle batteries and a 100w solar panel. I just want to be able to raise and lower the boat several times a day, run a computer, have several led lights I can turn on. Nothing that's going to constantly run. I am using a generator now but it's loud and takes up a lot of space.
