  1. You can Ski with dual citizenship until a point that you compete in a international event. If at that time, you ski for another country, you are no longer allowed to ski US nationals. Beleive it or not, this has happened. Some countries support top skiers much better than the USA. In fact, Canada is one of them.
  2. @kfennell, Trust me, you are not the only waterskier from Canada that works in the states. Do you know Paul Melnick? He and his family own houses on two very nice private lakes, and supports the sport both here and across the border. I don't know how long Paul has worked and lived here, but I have known him for at least 6 years. (a great guy and great family that hosts some of the best events that I have ever attended) The rules are what they are. Sorry. At some point you accept them and move on. I understand that just built a home at the host site for the 2014 nationals. Congrats. I don't think that entitles you to a ticket to the show. @bk, said it best. It looks like you don't even have a 3 event score (EVER) and a top slalom score that is below max speed. So it looks like your plan was to qualify to ski nationals by a top 5 finish at regionals. This is one of the reasons that I support a min level 6 ranking for nationals EVEN WITH a top 5 finish at regionals. Let's not diminish the hard work of others by allowing everyone to ski. BUT the rules say that top 5 at regionals gets you in. So I will follow the rules. Maybe you should consider that also. Sorry if this sounds harsh but I think that is the overall tone of most of the posts.
  3. @wish, You are correct. It's too bad that too many times people don't do the right thing. It is always easy to say "who's gonna know"
  4. @skifreak, & @kfennell, Good luck with that, I see no problem limiting nationals to US citizens only. You are allowed to ski in regionals for non placement. This has been the policy for a very long time. How many foregin skiers do you think live and train in Flordia and Louisiana? I don't think any amount of e-mails to board members will change this. It is always hard to tell what will be required to qualify for nationals thru placement at regionals. It is very possable that with nationals in Texas in 2014, more of the M2 overall skiers within the region will try to qualify. I am not sure what the current rules are now for nationals with a regionals placement but at one time there was a min. It may just require a score above zero in all three events. This may have changed after the G1 trick skier from several years ago.
  5. Ski schools always sound like it would be a great job but many kids I talk to that have worked at them say not so much. Most don't get as many sets as they would like. MANY hours in a hot boat that can zap your energy levels. They get a quick set during lunch and one late in the afternoon when they are worn out. Pay is limited at best. Not sure what Seth would offer. Most pay room and board plus maybe 100 per week.
  6. @klindy, all 3 events???? Lets get it done. I know a pair of jump skis that are collecting dust in a boat house.
  7. I had the pleasure of getting to drive while Chet was in the boat for about 3 hours. He never said the same thing twice to any two skiers. Too many coaches get stuck on one point and repeat it to every skier. Being able to spot and coach to the skiers weakness is key.
  8. Plus, you don't know what your health will be this early in the season. I usually don't use the on-line stuff except for big events (regionals & nationals) Locals ones we are like @Shane H. Make a call or e-mail to the host site 1-2 weeks prior. We host three 3-event tournaments a year. We are always full (35-40 slalom skiers) and in most cases will only have 3-4 skiers registered a week prior. On the Wed prior we get all the rest. I guess that skiers on Monday morning, look at the guide for where they are going to ski the next weekend.
  9. @MS Can't say for sure since I have not been in the boat since mid Oct........... but my guess is that is about 950 +/-
  10. I think the 34k price tag for a 08/09 is very inflated. I will know soon since we have one we are looking to move soon. I would be happy with 25k (no trailer)
  11. Galvanized are WAY more. I have heard that some of the lakes in AZ with high salt content, will eat a trailer very quickly.
  12. Here's one. Get rid of all the docks along the shores and use community boats, One boat for each lake you have. We are a two lake site with recent model boats. We have been doing it with no problems for about 25 years. Current cost is about 60 per owner per month. You build a community area with a nice boat house and ski out of that area. It also helps to build relationships within the community. Plus, you don't have a half millon dollars worth of boats hanging in lifts. Turn the boats every two years and you always have the most recent models and speed control. If you have three lakes, how great would it be to have a nautique, malibu and master craft to ski behind each day. Thats a huge tournament advantege.
  13. My guess is that Jimmy Thompson/John Able and Gordan Hall have built about as many lakes as anybody in the country. I am not plugged into the history of the sites out west. Who built most of them? Some have worked out good, others not so much. Make wind protection #1. Lakes need to run 90 deg to the wind direction and plant LOTS of trees.
  14. @MattP, Top two skiers from 8 division = 16 skiers. I don't think that will be done in 5 mins. Eight brackets head/head.
  15. @skinut, I know SEVERAL 08's limited that sold for the 38/39 number new. In fact I just sold one about a year ago for less than 25. Lots of hours on the motor but the inside and outside of the boat was in great shape. I think the asking price for a used 08/09 is VERY inflated. I also have a 09 with a ton of hours that is for sale for 25/26 range. Based on what I am seeing, even if someone put a new motor in, it looks like it would be a great deal. I think I remember Jody saying severa; months ago that a repower is about 8,000
  16. @jdarwin, I will second that. WOW WOW. I guess our 2009 is worth WAY more than I guessed.
  17. @klindy, Maybe a little better than "ok" but......... it's not like he won overall for his age group at Nationals or anything.
  18. One is a ok 3 eventer. The other can run the slalom course and skis maybe once a month for fun but has not skied a tournament in several years.
  19. @ral, The 2013 has a cleaner bottom and glids better, therefore faster time. LOL
  20. @ral, I would not get to excited about full course fast times for less than full pass 34. With a heavy, short line skier, that stops at 3 ball, the boat may not respond fast enough. 16.90 would be well within tolerance for any class tournament. Skier score Time 3 9.82 4 12.50 5 15.19 This will be what you get at a tournament. That is one of the reasons for ABT (all buoy time) I would take @bigtex2011 advice. Try another prop.
  21. @6balls I think there are still lots and one house for sale for about 700,000 on that site.
  22. Most of the newer multi lake private sites in Texas have jumps. You are starting to see a large number of three event skiers in the SCR. I agree with Jody.
  23. I did not see it, but I think I remember someone posting that it was in Houston at Lago Santa Fa.
  24. I think that we need to go back to the days when we said "time ok" Or better yet, just call in the bouy count. We do have ZO now.
